Happy holidays bro! Thanks for the incredible content that doesn't feel like fluff. You bring the creativity and emotion to the technical aspects; you take "basic mixing" notions and show how to master them. I feel like I've truly level up with your advice. Wanted to show some appreciation. 2025 is gonna be big for you ❤🔥
Yoooo!!! Thank you so much 🙏🏾. Wow. I really appreciate you. Happy Holidays! I'm just here to help and share. We gon keep goin every week. So we'll see what happens by this time next year! Anything you want to see next on the channel?
@@TheSwollenOne honestly, I'm pretty new to mixing. Would really love to see how you approach mixing a rap vocal like ken carson, future, carti, etc. I know they have different voices and different audio chains but mostly what you would think the base foundation should be
Dope! Thank you. I'll do another video specifically on something like that. The closest thing I have on the channel for this rn is this video! ua-cam.com/video/s50NWsBNRBU/v-deo.html It's a full mix breakdown but I talk about the vocal mixing for a Sexy Drill song.
Yo, do you have any video already breaking down what gear you use? Monitors, interface, mic, headphones etc? And also your reasons for getting each piece or equipment. Thank You.
What’re your thoughts on clip gaining? I tend to do a lot of clip gaining instead of automation. I understand CG’ing comes prior to everything and automation is usually post but still.
YOU HAVE ANY VIDEOS ON AN INDEPTH VOCAL MIX?, what i mean, from scratch to mastering....i struggle with width on vocals without damaging for mono devices, theres just too much garbage on the internet....maybe you can share some insight on this
I have a couple full mix breakdowns on here. I'll link those for you! But I'd def consider putting the width processing on a separate Aux/Send so you can maintain that center image of your vocal if that's what you're going for. Could solve that problem. Sexy Drill Mix Breakdown: ua-cam.com/video/s50NWsBNRBU/v-deo.html R&B Female and Male Mix Breakdown: ua-cam.com/video/2GzmikmzbKM/v-deo.html Lmk if these are helpful to you 🙏🏾! Glad to help however I can.
@@TheSwollenOne THANK YOU SO MUCH BRO! I will watch soon! and thanks for the tip, that could be something i can use, JUST ONE LAST QUESTION! if i do that, wont that create phasing? duplicating a vocal with stereo, im new sorry 😅😅
You're welcome. Glad to help but no. At least it shouldn't be a phase issue. What I'd do is create a send. On that send/aux track put a plugin like a Doubler or Microshift on it. Then turn it up and balance to taste. You have your centered vocal and your wider vocal on the sides.
It depends 😅. If you want that higher octave to be left and right, I'd record two high octaves and pan one left and one right. But if you you want it to be more centered one is fine. There are no rules tho.
For sure, its just that you lose a level of detail with the volume control with "vocal rider" rather than manually getting your hands dirty by using automation. If time is an issue "vocal rider" is definitely the way to go.
This is just mixing..? Of course you shouldn't throw a compressor and just select random vocal presets, you listen and make changes. In the beginning you described mixing tools and rough guidelines that people follow, I don't understand how these examples differ? "Add this effect but mess with the settings and listen until it sounds emotional" I don't understand how this is a separate concept
Of course "we shouldn't" do a lot of things, but people still do it. The point I'm making in this video is that people use compressors in order to escape the automation aspect.
Whoever is reading this, if you are not on notification for this man's channel...SHAME ON YOU!!!

@@TheSwollenOne Okay my bro, thank you. Take care 💯
That was interesting what kinda EQ would you add after the reverb for the ending part of a beat?

Let’s say I record a higher octave over my lead vocal should I put a doubler on it or just leave it in the middle like the lead vocal??

Can i use vocal rider to do this because doing everything manually is extremely time consuming ?
