Picked mine up brand new from my local place. Ran a bit of gas through it. Maybe 30 min to an hour. Not even a full tank used. That was back in 2017-2018. Pulled it back out the other day, dumped the fuel out, pulled the spark plug, pulled the starting cord a few times to clear everything out with the switch on off. Filled it with new gas. Put the plug back in. Fired up after 4 pulls. Idled like a sewing machine. Warmed up and has crisp throttle response. Testament to 100% non-ethanols fuel. 🤘🏼🤘🏼
I bought a store return at Home Depot a few years ago, and had good luck with it. Looked like it had 1/2 tank through it, brand new. The sales guy wouldn't let me run it, but said I could go in the parking lot, fire it up, and return it if I didn't want it. And, that is what I did, and it ran good, so I kept it. It is still running good muffler modded - but I really want to port it!
Thanks for sharing been hearing about that on store returns. Joe please do a stand-alone cs590 video like you did with the 620 with your port work!! After Matt’s deflector & timing key 620 cylinder dyno results. I have both those saws and all Matt’s upgraded parts but not sure if I should mess with the exhaust/intake timing to try and get a little more out of it. Thank you so much for covering the echo saws!!
Too bad about the saw, thanks for reminding folks, buyer beware for sure. Those performance parts look nice. Looking forward to seeing the results of this build.
Love your down to earth, real world no bs videos!! Thanks for the links. I don’t own this saw but a friend does so going to pass them on to him. 🍻 from 🇨🇦
I got one of these on Facebook form an older gentleman who had said he only used it a couple times and it wouldn’t start. Piston looked the same. I trust he used proper mixed gas. I wonder if these saws have an issue with some cylinders or pistons that cause scoring
They think they are getting one over on the store but these are the same people bitching about how their life is hard and it's never their fault. And all I have to say is. Thanks Karma for keeping it real.
Guys-Reply here or like this comment if you've ever asked a seller to let you pull the muffler before buying a saw? It seems reasonable when buying something used, but I don't think many sellers would want to allow it. Thanks.
I have taken mufflers off for buyers before and didn’t bother me. I have walked when looking at a saw that was hard to start and had weak rope compression but still ran. Like in the video the excessive oil was a sign also. If someone won’t let you take the muffler off walk, but show them you have the tools ready to go and put the muffler back on for them.
Thanks for the heads up video. So much can be learned from a simple check in the exhaust port. Do your research if a piston and cylinder can be purchased for a decent price it still may be a bargain to buy slightly damaged chainsaws.
I'm curious about the simple muffler mod and timing advance, to see how much it picks up. I've been cutting with mine this winter, and I think at this point it is just muffler modded, and it runs great. If the timing advance helps it a little, maybe I'll file my key a bit. But, I'd rather have a strong torquy saw, than a 15k zinger for firewood. And, mine was a little rich, and leaned it out, and don't mind running it at all.
It would be interesting to see the standalone gains (hp and torque) realized when swapping out the CS-590 cylinder/piston with the CS-620 cylinder/piston before the muffler mod and timing advance.
Sad that people take such advantage of the box stores. I've purchased a couple returned saws from tractor supply and lucked out! A few other items aswell! But I've also definitely been bit. As you said, it's the risk we take.
I was really looking forward to seeing your results. I put Matt's deflector on my 590 and Red beards stack foam filter made a big difference. Would love to know HP .gains I'm thinking about using his timing key also. Would have been great to see you do that also
On your last video you asked about cleaning a saw. The best way I found out. Is take it apart, covers and miss. block off carb. and exhaust. Tape the air cleaner works too. I use zep degreaser, simple green would work too. Take eight bucks go to the car wash. You will never clean up a nasty saw any other way. Oh by the way wear a glove on your off hand pro tip.
Home Depot has a no hassle 1 year return policy when you use your Home Depot cc. That could have been where it came from. I’m going to test the policy one day.
I just pop the deflector apart. It’s only tacked in 3 spots. Take the inner piece off. It becomes a very large outlet I’ll never buy a store return…ever If a person won’t let me pull the muffler off. I walk away. No matter what the saw is
I think they are more hit and miss. I got a nice little echo saw from Homedepo for 130 once, and it is a great little saw. I also got a "used" from the rental shop Dolmar/Makita 6100 and that thing was run hard and put away wet ... looked good on the outside, but overheated, smoked bar and chain, oilier not working, etc. I thought it was a 6400, and was going to convert it to a 7900, but I live 3 hours each way from Homedepot, so ended up buying it anyway. It worked out ok, as it is a pretty nice and fast 60cc saw.
I purchased one a few years back and now it doesn’t want to start/run. So pissed as it’s hardly used. Purchased mine brand new. Ran great for a couple years. Now it’s nothing.
Right is right.. But it has almost like stock numbers as you say so.. Run it like you own it.. Use it untill it needs fixing.. You're going to have to tear it down then.. Mine is years older and runs nails.. Jeebus..
Someone bought a new saw....took the plastics off of it and put them on their old worn-out saw, and then returned the old one as if it were the new one; That's why I only buy things I can either see in-person, or from a trusted retailer who has a good return policy. These janky "bargains" save ya nothing in the long-run, and just give you more work. So many crooks out there!
@@dynojoemods2764, оk, Thanks. But your video about 50cc, 70cc and 90cc most powerful chainsaws help me. I buy Husqvarna 550markll, Stihl MS462 and Stihl MS 651! Now for me stay interesting only one question: most powerful 60cc chainsaw.
I picked mine up brand new off the shelf. 4 years later still runs brand new
My 1994 echo is still a screamer 30 years later

Knowing what to look for and knowing how to fix it you can make it a winner. Nice video 👍
Yeah, that's why I bought from my local dealership... good people, he will even put a good chain on it. Ready to go as soon as I got home.
Thanks for sharing been hearing about that on store returns.

Hi Joe. Can you show how to do the flywheel key? Thanks
As you say, they destroy their saw, buy another, swap parts over and return the old saw pretending to be the new saw.
Great video as always Joe. 🤙🏼😎

I will if you have the cash and don't seem like a joker that's going to ruin it and scram. If you bugger it I'm keeping the cash.

Life motto: If something sounds too good to be true, it is. I apply this to everything.
Another good educational video Joe. Buying a used chainsaw is always a gamble inside unless you can take a look.
The CS-590 is the BEST value for a chainsaw hands down. POWER. Low torq rips the chain through just about anything.
Did I miss the link for the bolt on deflector part?
The timing keys do help with the 590 coils I have used 3 of them I like them

Muffler mod and tune and it's good to go...

After you swap out all the parts for the 620, aren’t you paying about the same as just buying the 620. Plus less work.
Sad that people take such advantage of the box stores. I've purchased a couple returned saws from tractor supply and lucked out! A few other items aswell! But I've also definitely been bit. As you said, it's the risk we take.
How will you fix it? I guess i will check the other videos..I have the 590 and love it. (Ok i see you will replace the cylinder and piston) thanks!
I want to see results of stock 590 with only that muffler deflector
CS590 is the best saw I've owned. Much better than comparable priced Stihl.
Just ordered a "new" one on eBay. This is helpful.
Thanks this is great. Disappointed you didn't just test it with the bolt on mod first on the 590
Always trying to get 50 cc saws no luck
I was really looking forward to seeing your results. I put Matt's deflector on my 590 and Red beards stack foam filter made a big difference. Would love to know HP .gains I'm thinking about using his timing key also. Would have been great to see you do that also
So what can cause them to score up the piston like that. Looked pretty serious.

That's a great way to blow a case gasket into the case.
A mortar pan and a pint of gas with a paintbrush is how I do it.
do u know if some1 makes timing keys for the 501sx?
Would it be easier to do a compression check or take muffler off if im buying a used saw and how many pounds should it be around 150 thanks
What kind of box store sells returned saws?
Home Depot has a no hassle 1 year return policy when you use your Home Depot cc. That could have been where it came from. I’m going to test the policy one day.
Im betting it was run with straight gas.
Cheers man. 🍻
Where can we get the timing key and the muffler outlet
Is the rattling noise normal mine is doing the same thing?
Link to muffler outlet?

I just added it to the video description

Did you get it working again? Looking at buying something OTHER than a Stihl or Husqvarna.
Great info those scare me Walmart does it to just took it back got my money's
Those deflectors should add an extra 1/2Hp for the price he's charging for a CNC'd piece of Aluminum.
I’d rather cut the original to open up at that price
Good thing they have a five year warranty
Misleading title. I bought my 590 new, been beating the hell out of it for two years, great saw. Best damn saw you can get the for the money.
Sometimes what looks like scoring is actually just transfer and can be removed quite easily. Cylinder might be saveable check it with your fingernail.
