to explain gramps: yes, he can quite literally *engrave the concept of death* upon beings which cannot die, its why he was the grand called forth against tiamat
The lore for Beast Class is that they love humanity so much, they become an evil of humanity because of it. Tiamat love her children so much, she doesn't want her children to leave her, in the end she became Beast of Regression. Beasts are pretty much near impossible to kill, you realistically can only kill one of them with the help of a Grand Class. Here, First Hassan being a Grand uses his power to force a concept of death to Tiamat who doesn't have a concept of death.
Grand Class Servants can only be summoned / intervene if there's a Beast around. In Singularity 4 (Didn't have anime adaptation, but the timeline is before Babylonia) it is said that, "If Servants are weapons meant to fight individuals, Grand Servant is a weapon meant to fight the world." The very system of Holy Grail War summoning made by humanity is a knock off version of Grand Servants summoning that was made by the world itself.
I'm not a loremaster but the first Merlin is summoned by Gil since Merlin is "dead" cuz he hasn't been born yet. This Merlin that comes back at the end is the real Merlin form the future that use the world literally dying as a excuse to bend the rules of Avalon and come to help for a bit.
Fun fact, because of her love for humanity, Tiamat has a passive called Self Seal that shave away 90% of her power. We are actually fighting Tiamat at 10%.
17:42 Altria is Saber btw (they somewhat retconned Artoria to Altria for official english translations). It's implied that it was still Merlin that taught her how to swordfight. 😂Also in-game, he has attack animations where he wields excallibur(or caliburn, forgot), tho I'm not sure if that's what he uses here.
He probably just sparred with her for fun, because Artoria learned swordfighting from Ector, who was essentially her adoptive father. Merlin did teach her kingship and politics, but nothing fighting related.
@@mahindrareddy6130 Altria and Artoria is the same name before she became the king of knights (both are pronounced the same in Japanese), officially after she became king, she is called Arthur to hide the fact that she's a girl.
15:37 immortal means that the person is prevented from dying. Tiamat goes one step forward as death was incomprehensible to her. What the First Hassan did was inflict her with the concept of death making her actually killable.
Gilgamesh and Enkidu's versions of Enuma Elish are entirely seperate from each other, they are named after the story of creation in Babylonian Myth being Enuma Elish itself, Gilgamesh's version is to tear apart the World and reveal the truth of creation using the Sword of Rupture. Enkidu's is the opposite, it is to mend and repair the World from being destroyed by saving it, it is why both Noble Phantasms cancel out each other if they're used against each other. They both signify two sides of creation, its beginning and its end.
Awesome reaction, Crow! And about 26:29, it's deep and sad at the same time Fujimaru says "all your children love you," but Tiamat's in pain because her children have left her and interprets the "love" Fujimaru is talking about as them leaving her. So she says "never love me again" but actually means "Please don't leave me."
King Hassan is a monster he has Battle Continuation EX. The ability to resume combat. Allows for survival unless dealt a decisively fatal blow, continuing to fight even when sustaining a wound that leaves one on the verge of death. This swordsman who is no longer certain whether he is alive or dead, even if he receives a fatal wound or loses half of his body, he will keep coming for the enemy as if he was in perfectly good health.
In the game, Gilgamesh has special lines specifically for this final battle. He's no longer laughing or speaking arrogantly, he's only got cold fury and wanting revenge for his fallen kingdom. You could say it's one of the only times he's fought seriously.
So, the thing with Merlin is that first, he's trapped in Avalon until the end of time. Second, Avalon exists out of normal space-time, like a parallel dimension. Third, this singularity takes place millennia before Merlin is born. Therefore, since he doesn't exist yet then he's not alive at that point in time ergo he's technically dead, he tested that loophole by letting Gilgamesh summon him as a Caster servant and because that worked, he was able to just get out of Avalon in the British Isles of that time period and ran full speed to Babylon.
12:04 Correct. Its the real Merlin, after the Servant 'Illusion' projection "died" (cus of Tiamat awakening) he just temporarly escaped the Avalon due to Inceneration of Humanity and human history still being in effect. He run all over to Uruk lol.

Enuma Elish also called the seven tablets of creation is the mesopotemian creation myth, Gilgamesh and enkidu's enuma elish have the opposite concept - one breaks space another sews it back together. The other noble phantasm of theirs also shares a similar name - gate of Babylon and age of babylon
You were getting pretty close on how Merlin was able to be summoned despite still being alive and trapped in the Tower of Avalon, it’s due to a loophole on what counts as being “dead”. Since they are in a time period where Merlin doesn’t exist yet technically that is same as be dead, so he can be summoned. When he comes back the second time it’s due to the barriers separating worlds are cracking from the battle with Tiamat, this allows him to temporarily free his real body. The explanation of the Tiamat part is that she refused to let her children leave her side to grow up because she loved them too much. Being the Primordial Goddess of Creation she loves all her creations/children and wants to stay with them forever but in doing so she coddles them halting their development. This caused her children to betray her and split her body to create their world. So she hates that her children used her as a stepping stone and then abandoned her afterwards but paradoxically at the same time she still loves them. So at the end Fujimaru tells her that it’s time that she let her children go free and even if they leave without her, that they all still loved her. So Tiamat, Beast of Regression, finally learns that if she truly loves her children that must let them go and move on. She then gives him a request saying “Please never love me again” because she doesn’t want feel betrayed/abandoned by or harm her children again and this is the only way for her to do so.
Watching this episode makes me all the more excited for the next animated episode of Fate/Strange Fake where we get to see Archer Gilgamesh with the real Enkidu again
If you ever get confused about Merlin during his second appearance or anytime he shows up, don't worry about it. This is Merlin we're talking about. He’ll bend all the rules for himself. Lmao
Funny thing about fighting Beasts, we literally have to use everything under the sun and somehow get lucky enough to win. And at one point we even had to use hax (time travel, kind of). And those are just the Beasts that were fresh out the oven, not long enough to fully abuse their abilities.
12:26 This rule doesnt really matter because this is a singularity, its not actually the past, now the real question is how is he able to leave the tower of Avalon which if you remember he is not allowed to do
The 7 Grand Servants are the pinnacle of all Servants, they wield enough power to beat most normal Servants merely because of their class container The known of Grand of each class is as follows Archer: Orion (formerly), the Tri Star Archer and the best hunter in all of Greece Lancer: Romulus- Quirinus, the deified Romulus the foundee of Rome Assassin: The First Hassan (formerly), gave up his title to imprint death onto Tiamat Rider: Noah, the builder of the greatest ship in history, rider of the great flood Caster: King Solomon (formerly), the greatest mage in history. Grand Caster also has 3 runner up candidates in Merlin, Gilgamesh and Taigong Wang.
Avalon is where Merlin was imprisoned. Avalon operates on a different time than the real time. Merlin, being a genius mage he is, can actually cheat the system and manipulate the time to some degree. And yes, Gilgamesh used his own corpes as a catalyst to summon himself. About Old man of the mountain, sadly they didn't managed to animate the part where he cut one of Tiamat's wing but it is understandable because animating this guy would take many of their budgets I mean just look at his design. His noble phantasm is called "Azrael" which is the name of a Archangel and the angel of death. What this np do is instantly killing anyone regardless of strength and even the tiniest cut would still instantly kill his target. As a grand servant he is a special case, because under normal circumstances he is the only heroic spirit that can qualify as the Grand Assassin. Also, it was not mentioned in the anime but First Hassan renounced his grand title because he was about to do a special move which is giving Tiamat the concept of death. That and he just wanted to join/retire in Chaldea because grand servants must not serve anyone but the Counter force. So right now in the game, First Hassan is chilling in Chaldea not as a grand servant but as a normal servant which leave the throne of Grand Assassin vacant. Spoilers for Lostbelt 7 Tezcatlipoca took the spot of Grand Assassin using loopholes and First Hassan doesn't mind it. Yah it took a supreme god to replace this guy.
