I read it in French 4 in high school. It is my favorite book in the world. I became a French teacher through the influence of my marvelous high school French teacher, Mlle Schreibstein and taught for 25 years. Le Petit Prince and the Fables of La Fontaine were just a few of the gems she shared. I TAUGHT from the notes I took in her class!

It’s my favorite book. My mom read it to me in Spanish when I was a child in Argentina, then I read it in English when I moved to the US and learned the language, and now I read it in French. I think apprivoiser in English is to domesticate, by the way. Merci mille fois, j’adore ce livre et j’adore vos vidéos ! 🫅🦊🌹✈️

Interestingly the first time I was exposed to this book was in high school German class. I first read it in German.
I’ve seen various versions, most notably the English language film with Bob Fosse himself as the snake.
Now I think I’m ready for the VF…hearing the passage about the wheat fields almost brought me to tears hearing it in French for the first time more than 40 years after high school…

    Bonjour Géraldine,
Merci pour cette émission. Le Petit Prince faisait partie de m'aventure française. Peut-être, une traduction différente pour le verbe "apprivoiser" dans cette situation, est "to win over", ou même, "to become accustomed to", ou (en particulier) c'est possible d'utiliser l'adjectif "simpatico", qui est arrivé dans la langue anglaise d'Italienne.
    Amitiés, Dennis

My 2 teens are learning French and I would love to know about more books that French high school students are required to read. I'd like to see it incorporated into their lessons.

I can't really say about french highschool now, being 36 but we used to learn some very hard books, from Molière to Baudelaire.
My option try some bandes dessinées ( comics). Cheers et bon courage.

When I was in high school (I am 24 now), we read Le Comte de Monte Cristo by Alexandre Dumas and Le Petit Prince, we were also encourage to find our own books/tv shows/movies/audiobooks to help our French. My teacher recommend if there is a book you've read in English that you love, try finding that book in French.

Thank you so much for sharing this book! I've heard about it and have a copy on my shelf, but never was able to understand why it is so popular... I will go and read it again with a fresh perspective! If you have other French children's literature, can you recommend some as well?

Thankyou for your videos. If i may make one suggestion. Maybe make it obvious this video is about a specific french book and not general "must know vocabulary'. Im pretty sure half the people here misunderstood the video title. Also may i suggest you check your pronounciation of the word "vocabulary". merci pour les videos

I had a French teacher who pronounced "yeux" as "oeil". (When she was reading aloud from a text, she would pronounce "les yeux" as "les oeils". In fact, it may have been when we were reading Le Petit Prince.) Is that common among native French speakers?

Great. Pax Christi. (Some) Le Petit's lessons (esp.14:00"On ne voit bien..." must be made a part of the Bible like Aristotle's, K.Godel or A.Tarski's theorems (they are too abstract for this dumb generation). By analogy: A.D.Sertilanges, The Intellectual Life/La Vie Intellectuelle, AD 1920, Eng.1934 - has some unique spiritual advice like Thomas a Kempis, The Imitation of Christ, 15th cent.CE.(not known to Ph.D.'s fools yet)- but it is difficult to read all in the original language but it inspires to learn it like Greek or Hebrew to know better Bible or any Aristotle's text.
