- We finally got around to installing the RaceChip in our 2023 BMW G80 M3 6MT!
We have been looking to add some quick power - and currently we just don't have the time or space to have the car down for two weeks to send out the ECU to Femto for an unlock.
The GTS Black RaceChip claims to add 150hp on top of the 475hp that comes with base G80's with the S58. We plan to take to it to the dyno shortly and see if we really are putting down anything close to claimed power numbers.
It's a straightforward install - but we strongly advise removing the driver front wheel and wheel liner to be able to easy access the one boost pressure sensor. It sits down in there sandwiched between the frame rail and engine.
The bluetooth connectivity leaves some room for desires, but all in - you really can't go wrong with the bang for your buck from this piggyback.
On first drive, there is a noticeable power increase throughout the middle of the power band. It pulls hard until about 5k RPM - then hits the same wall felt on stock parameters. Also, about 3 days after the install - we noticed the clutch beginning to slip in higher gears at lower load. Not upset - planned on upgrading anyway.
FYI - to answer the age old question - yes, a RaceChip can void your warranty. We do not care about the warranty. Do not modify these cars unless you have a replacement engine ready to go or are ready to eat a big repair bill. RaceChip does offer up to $10,000 if the unit should cause failure - but we'd imagine that sounds like a hassle.
Hopefully by summertime this year, we'll have installed Vargas' Single Turbo kit. ECU unlock + custom tune + E85 + 72mm PTE = 🚀.

Why you put on mod 6 qnd not mode 7?
Maybe 150 crank HP, you're not getting 150 wheels from a racechip, JB4 yields more wheel HP than the racechip, and on pump gas you may get a 80 wheel and close to 100 on an e-blend hp increase. Standing by for the dyno vid to prove me wrong...
I never mentioned nor insinuated +150 to the wheels. Usually “150 HP” indicates crank HP and “150 WHP” indicates wheel horsepower. We did dyno the car AND we did a baseline (video is coming) - I can tell you this much….the RaceChip made more then +80HP wheel on 93 octane. Hit the subscribe button to be notified when you’re about to be proven wrong. PS the baseline we did was with some hot intake temps due to us having an issue with getting the car in dyno mode. If we didn’t have issues and she wasn’t hot, those numbers would most likely be north of +100 wheel…on 93.
@@znmperformance Well, 80HP which is "crank" HP on 93 is believable for the S58 platform and the RC. 150 crank on 93 is questionable on just 93, but I'll wait for your vid.

No way you get those gains on regular gas. I have the racechip on my G80 and think it is still totally worth it.

Coming soon! We did a video for the Dyno last month. More impressed with what the car is made on stock tune with just intake and exhaust (stock cats).
That front bumper really ruins the car 😬
