I gotta admit Shawn, I strayed from your videos. Started playing pretty bad toward the end of last year. Saw a couple notifications from your channel pop up and watched about 5 of your vids. Went out to a really tough course and shot 85 and that was with my chipping costing me at least 5 or 6 strokes. I was shanking them. Got that figured out in my yard, but your instruction has gotten me super pumped about my next round. I deleted all the other UA-cam channels on golf instruction. Please forgive me. Listening to the podcast today. Mu talking about tennis elbow. I had such terrible tennis elbow I was afraid I would have to quit playing. I had to put those arm bands around both forearms to play. Then I found you and learned I needed to use a strong grip. The strong left hand fixed my tennis elbow and I haven’t needed those arm bands in years
NOW THERE IS AWESOME FEEDBACK FOR EVERYONE!! Any strain or control needed to crank the hands instead of letting the club release the hands and arms will increase the chances at golfer’s elbow! 👍👌GREAT COMMENT!!
My irons and woods are really coming along, My driver is still more often than not a duck hook starting left and turning left. Causing me to want to open the club face which then seems to turn into a high draw which is pretty and starting up the right side drawing back but it is short and doesnt seem powerful at all. I am finally starting to get the whip through feeling and hoping I am on the verge of a breakthrough with driver. I am always intrigued by instruction, just reading comments I can see the many different thoughts and feelings that resonate with different people ie the throw vs door frame vs grass whip. Even your feet held down today several comments about it opening their eyes, I love to find one of your thoughts or drills that feels like a break through. Thanks
Sounds like you are just trying to hit the driver too hard; feel like it’s 2 out of 10 effort to get 7 out of 10 velocity. like you are trying to jit the driver 30 yards less than usual. see our very latest video on that called “Why I hit the driver farther at 58 than at 18 shawn clement”
Thank you my effort does feel too high, that said I have hooked the driver for years doesn't seem to matter what swing method I am using. I will definitely explore this though.@@golflessons
Wow, I’ve recently been losing balls off to the right and couldn’t figure out why. Took slow motion video of my swing and saw my back (right) foot on the toes before impact. Focused on keeping the pressure on the inside of my feet and my back foot down through impact. Completely fixed my issue. Thanks Shawn!
Shawn! This lesson was like a lighting bolt straight to the brain! I’ve seen so many of your videos (I hear your voice every time I’m over the ball) and I think that I remember it all. Then, POW! I watch one like this and I finally get it, I completely understand the reasoning behind what you are teaching here today. #alwayslearning And sweet belt too! 👍🏻
Right on Cecil! Thank you for the great feedback and yes, I stop at the Johnson and Murphy store at the airport in Toronto and they always have nice accessories there. Got 3 of these for the season and thanks for noticing! 😀👍
Every time you upload I watch because I learn so much from you. At first I thought stronger grip will just hurt my wrist but man I was so wrong. I have sav’s grip and been ripping it ever since
You bet! And that is why Bryson suffered; his grip is too weak and passes in the wrong part of the hand and that is why he needs those jumbo max grips but has to release so hard through the ball; less that 1% of humans can do this and out of them, a large percentage get hurt and need surgery!
The walking drill is such a good idea. For years I've had a hard time with firing the lower body/hips too early in my swing. I started making the walking drill part of my warm up routine last year and helped a lot!
Loved this one, I struggle with early release and feel keeping the back foot down is key to preventing this. Any premium wisdom in golf videos I should be watching on this concept? Thanks Shawn!
You bet! “Bolted and centre”, then “feet together back to feet apart”, then “the walking drill” and then “uphill shots” and “ball below the feet” shots and finally “kinetic chain facilitation series” #6 especially!
Very good explanation. Since I started studying with you I never think about my legs, I just throw the club at the target and it all happens automatically. Also I found that having a tighter grip somehow gets my legs better activated. In the past when I used to "fire the legs", as you say, it leads to the "goat hump" move --- > SHANK! or it leads to a slide which is death for speed, consistency and accuracy. Golf really is quite easy, so many other instructors over complicate it. BTW I am a lot older than you. You should get longer as you get older ;- )
I took a video of my swing the other day and realized that I've mastered the left arm chicken wing follow through 😀 I'll definitely be trying those drills. Been trying to focus on releasing to the target, but can't stop fixating on hitting the ball. Hopefully some of what you talked about today will help.
Hey Man! We have been way ahead of the game with this and the progression is this: -need a strong grip to not have to release at the ball to square up manually- -Need a solid set up that matches your flight plan to allow you to let the swing release in the direction you want to start the ball-(see “predict solid contact and direction shawn clement” and on premium it is called “the goldie locks series”) -our most recent series on premium, we are showing you how to include the ball in your task to target; showing you how the ball is all a mental obstruction and how IT COULD NEVER STOP YOU FROM DELIVERING THE CLUB IN THE DIRECTION YOU WANT TO START THE BALL!!. A must see for those who need a “target confirmation”
@@golflessons Thanks! I actually have a playlist of your videos in that order. Started out with the grip videos, then the "throwing the club", then "predict perfect contact". Not wrong at all! Isn’t the boxer doing the same thing?? Grip should feel secure and allow you to deliver through the ball towards the target. See “Through the ball vs at the ball shawn clement”

not sure I am doing it right as my lead arm seems to be touching my body on follow through but i can say i did hit a 7 iron 175 yards yesterday and i am 59 and have played just under a year now so I figure i must be doing something right
Hey Mark! When you see the slow motion series of swing on premium, you will see the ones from behind and realize it is a GOOD THING as I do this too! Wow! Hot belt! My wife would be proud and Sav loves it too! Johnson and Murphy-got 3 of them at the Toronto airport store coming back from the Dominican last week. Thanks for the great comment and notice!😀👍
I have it the other way round, my trail foot (right) doesn’t come off the ground until we’ll after impact, I swing my 8iron around 93mph so I should be able to get decent distance no ? Only get 130 / 140 yards
Not a bad deal; Phil Michelson and Tom Lehman are notorious for that and that did not prevent them from doing fantastic! I am that way too and there is a great way to keep the excess in check by staying with the shot; see the “early extension shawn clement” and “how to stay with your shot shawn clement” videos!
That’s probably something he’s never had to have a swing thought on, or needed to focus on independently. Those things obviously happen to some extent in all effective swings.
Padraig would realize very quickly that if he were to apply what he says to students full time as a teaching job that 90% of what he says would fail miserably. Unfortunately, feet together and keeping the trail foot planted, in a full swing with feet apart , I still flip and scoop. It’s the most annoying and frustrating things to fix I’m at a complete loss- because the only way to get my hands sort of leading the shot, and sort of further forward is to take a xtra small backswing and feeling like I take it back to 1st shaft parallel and swinging full hard through as if I took a John Daly backswing - it gets my hands further forward and slightly less scoopy. STILL not there but it’s what slightly works.
There are several reasons players flip, stopping your body rotation being another, and to suggest that moving ahead of the ball is THE reason is very misleading.
And you stop your body on purpose? You are defective? This is where golfers need a swift re-education as to jow the machine works. You are not defective-you are already Pinocchio without the strings; you just need the right task. See “throwing the club straight shawn clement” and all the other club throwing videos and watch how brilliant your body can be when you give it the right task! Shawn
I never said I stopped rotating, but I see it constantly at the range. The body stops, the club doesn’t. The result is flip after flip. In addition many golfers square the club by flipping because of a poor grip or a position at the top with the left wrist too cupped. A flip is always a compensation for something, but moving past the ball is just one of many reasons. If you don’t identify the actual cause, you’ll flip till your dying day.
I can only guess, but I’d say the player probably believes that now that he’s back facing the ball that that part of the job is over and his hands and clubhead will do rest. Of course, he’s wrong, but his intuition overrules his intellect, and coaching, as well as poor instruction, can’t always help.
@@johnsterman77 ok, so here is the real gist: If the ball is your target by default or by design, you will stop there and the body will quit and the hands will flip by; see my “why your hands outrace your body shawn clement”
Just came from the driving range and the poor fellow next to me was getting lessons from the pro at the range who is doing nothing but enumerating body parts to him I felt so bad for the guy I just wanted to grab him and say stop

Hey man! Just completed workout #10 with Golffitpro and Mu’s instructions! Will use his info to defeat him! 😝😝😝
The body stops,
the club doesn’t.
@@johnsterman77 what is the cause of the body stopping?
I can only guess, but I’d say the player probably believes that now that he’s back facing the ball that that part of the job is over and his hands and clubhead will do rest. Of course, he’s wrong, but his intuition overrules his intellect, and coaching, as well as poor instruction, can’t always help.
@@johnsterman77 ok, so here is the real gist:
If the ball is your target by default or by design, you will stop there and the body will quit and the hands will flip by; see my “why your hands outrace your body shawn clement”
Just came from the driving range and the poor fellow next to me was getting lessons from the pro at the range who is doing nothing but enumerating body parts to him I felt so bad for the guy I just wanted to grab him and say stop
I hear you Bruce! The tragedy is this happened THOUSANDS of times today! 😖😖
