As you were building the " hoop coop", I began to realize something. These structures would make excellent starter greenhouses for a beginner homesteader. They are small, and relatively inexpensive. You would just have to get the correct plastic for the outside, and of course some shade cloth.
They make great small greenhouses. I built 2' sidewalls so I could go the full 8' wide. Covered sidewalls with rabbit wire, so when the plastic is rolled up, the free-range chickens and wild rabbits can't get in. Door is a Dutch door and put a push-out window at the back for ventilation.
That’s what I was wondering. I am a 73 year old great Grandma, but I think I could tackle this for the small gardening plants I want.

Have seen alot of people laying vinyl over their floor boards so that cleaning the floor from droppings is easier plus can be washed off ever so often.

Vinyl flooring on floor easy to clean out
I'm glad you chose to add that extra bracing on the bottom instead of just down the middle. I worked in a lumberyard/home improvement center and did a lot of projects with my dad when I was young and half in plywood really needs more support if you're going to be walking on it. Of course, it's no longer quite half and inch thick. The mills have decreed everything wood be a bit shorter/thinner, so "half inch plywood" is 15/32 now. Edited to fix a typo.

Nice cage but when I build my quail cages I build the door at least 30cm off the ground at the front part of the cage as quails like to run out, so as you did a cross brace at the back I suggest a similar one at the front but 30cm high off the ground so you can step over it.

Love it! One thing I would do differently, would be lay down linoleum before putting up the cattle panels. I have linoleum in my chicken coop and it makes a world of difference cleaning it. Looking forward to seeing what else you do!
I have learned so much from your channel. Have you thought about sheet vinyl for the floor with some straw. It will be difficult to clean with only wood. Great video.

When you flipped the platform back over there was a lose piece of wood under it, better check to see if it is level.

Kevin, I know a man who raises quail year round outside, in Augusta Kansas. He originally built a wooden structure, like a small shed, then added a covered porch, enclosed the whole thing in hardware cloth, and chicken wire to keep all kinds of critters out, 4x4 posts for porch, and all types of vining plants surrounding it for shade. Really cool, they just run around all day and act like quail.
So far everything looks great in Waddlesville!! The geese have really grown and it appears that they are getting along well with the other animals!! The quail aviary is coming along nicely!!
Hey Kevin have you thought about putting linoleum down in the quail house to make it easier to clean? You just need a Turkey tractor now!!!

Using it for flooring, you always use 3/4 3/4 ply over 2 ft spaced joists, or 1/2 inch over 16 inch spacing.

Good morning Kevin and Sarah. Love this video! You make putting together a hoop coop look easy for us to follow along, and make one for ourselves. Cutting up 100 pounds of cabbage today. Harvesting oregano and Anise Hyssop. Had a bumper crop of Anise Hyssop that reseeded itself last fall from one big plant. It filled two 4x8 raised beds. (I transplanted one bed)😳😁That's a first for me here in Minnesota. The bees love the flowers at the top! Also had some cilantro that reseeded itself from last year. God bless and take care!

Kevin, for future reference, always run your plywood perpendicular to your joists. It's manufactured to be rigid in that direction.

So how are you going to mow between the fence and the hoop coop?
Would it give your coop more rigidity if you put the front panel on, the back panel on, and then put the 3rd panel in the middle, overlapping both of them? Just a thought. Your hoop coops ars are always so neat and clean looking!

If you are going to use deep litter, I suggest raising up the bottom of the door to hold in chips. Remember your floor will get higher with deep litter as well.

In MN I had my quail in a small coop. On the back side I put an old dog kennel run. Wire over the sides and top and tin on the lower part so raccoons couldn’t get them; the quail would sleep outside in warmer weather. I let the grass/ weeds grow in that run!!! The quail thrived, they absolutely loved it!! I do wish we could do that here in MO but doubt it will happen..I have quail but in a cage…
