Hi, one of my replays. The real death knell here was just the misplay with the magic. It was just completely countered by earth blood that kept the lances in the fight on top of healing everything else. After that it was just an example of cathay infantry being better that saw that game through But anyway, a short rant on why cathay replays suck: they have 2 playstyles, terracotta death star and dwarf box, both of which are entirely reactive amd not proactive. The faction lacks duelist other than gotrek, and their harmony mechanic means units have to stay together. This is especially crippling for jade lancers who lose out on lots of stats when flanking the enemy rather than defending. Cathay is simply put, the faction with the lest initiative in the game. The solution? Cathay needs yin and yang equivalents for each kind of unit. I'm talking jet warriors with low armour but high AP, jet or bandit cavalry to flank alongside the jade lancers, perhaps give them a skirmish option. Chariots would be quite nice. The monkey King could be a good duelist keystone. All cathay heros desperately need an overhaul but that's more singleplayer territory. In short, cathay needs a reason to advance on the enemy because every unit simply does better to sit there and let the opponent make mistakes. Give them offensive options and let them roam free! As always thx dahv for casting
I don't know that Jade Warriors need the help: you can always advance something like Iron Hail Gunners right behind them for the buff. Agreed on the cavalry though. Some skirmishers would free up Jade Lancers to do more than sit behind your own line.
Well played! I enjoyed watching the battle, even though you are correct that Cathay is trapped into a sedentary playstyle. Crowmen provide Yin harmony now. Could they accompany cavalry flanks to give harmony? Or would that be too expensive? Maybe peasant horse archers with Yin would be a better fit for that role, if they were added into the game?
I think the main downfall of the TK player was not timing the carrion with the Nehekharan Horsemen. Neither of those are cheap, and he had four of each: a lot of points that ultimately did not accomplish their goal. Cathay got to countercharge the carrion and thus half-destroyed them before the NH Horsemen even really arrived, who then got swamped by numbers. I think hanging back just a little with the infantry forntline and focussing on the detroying the mobility (peasant horse) would have been better, he had enough stomping power to destroy them with the NH Horse in seconds, denying the Peasant horse the charge with the birds charging them first. And at that poont there would not have been flank protectors to outmanouver the multiple flanking units. It is a difficult manouver to get the timing right, but then, that is what this army composition was supposed to do in order to win. Sicking just one carrion on the Long-ma would also have made those Bjuna's much more effective at killing models.
@@spanner5940 You can't punish a delayed charge when not in range. Also, the ranged units had free reign after the failed flanking for the rest of the battle, so I think suffering a volley or two beats being kited to death in the late game.
@ well i didnt kite so that last point is moot, and crane gunners have like 300 range which is half the map from where i was standing. also the only ranged units which got their value that game was the iron hails and they got most of it shooting the tomb guard in the late game. it simply did not matter, the real problem is he had no answer for miao ying and my infantry.
Yo dahv did you see that they hinted Cathay for the old world on tabletop? They showed a hint of the next 3 factions, and the third turns out to be part of the cathay key art!
Yeah, I noticed the broken animations in my Cathay campaigns, but also in several youtube videos from different multiplayer content creators, when Cathay often loses a previously narrow game because the Cathay player transforms into the dragon form and start to struggle to get anything done with their big SE. Zhao is actually affected the least in my experience, but he still do most damage with his spells. I remember that Spellbound actually started his collision damage researchs as a way to fix the underperformance of the dragons a few years back. But how recent is your information about their recent research? Because I spoke to someone else close to the review team in late 2024 and he stated they intentional did not suggested the fix for the dragons as it may make them to efficient for their cost. But I would actually argue that they need the fix, otherwise you pay for a lot of stats you cannot use in your game reliably.
On that map, I don't see why TK don't just spam sphinxes and advance through the forest. Once they take out the iron hails, they can just cycle charge everything to oblivion.

It was a jade lancer, and my longmas and crane gunners would've punished any delayed charge. I completely disagree with that strategy

Finally a Cathay win. Wish they were played more
Some bowshabti would've put more pressure on the Longmas.
would have been food for the cannons/crane guns
@@itscurrentyear3054bowshabti obliterate cannons and cranegunners pretty easily.
if you commit really hard with like 4 yeh

Those longma were doing great, getting 3 heals and about to get their win and live to tell the tale.
But then the caster was like, NAH F YOU !!!

3:11 that tomb scorpion should be banned for tbagging that peasant

I don't see Arkhan on a chariot anymore, is it bugged or overcosted?
