    Getting crazy wicking it also here. I use Eco 14 and 16 wicks on pro blend 600 wax but 16 wick big flame and soot a lot in the first lit but second lit it’s better and 14 much better but leave little wax in the edge of the CS black jar 3.25” diameter. The I try zinc 51-32-18 and goes well but half of the jar the flame is kinda small . Any suggestions? Thank you

    • @BlackTieBarn
      @BlackTieBarn  Рік тому

      Hey Dan. The main point was that they're is lots of flexibility for various processes. I know tons of people who add fo to this wax at 160 for example. And pour helps vary too. But yes, you can stir and then let sit and cool stirring occasionally if you want

    What CD wick is recommended for a 3.3 diameter 12oz salsa jar?

  • @tipisqueen4
    @tipisqueen4 Рік тому +6

    I heard from a guy who is a candle scientist and tests candles for big brands like Yankee candle who mentioned in his videos that since wax and fragrance oils are nonpolar oils, they don't bind but rather blend together. So heating up the fragrance so that they bind together is not really needed because the molecules don't actually combine in a molecular way. The way that can be done is using vybar because it is a positive polymer that will grab onto the wax and the fragrance oil molecules and keep them binded this way. He suggests just melting the wax until it melts, add the fragrance and pour cooler. He uses soy in his videos. Not sure if this applies to parrafin as he is against using parafin.

    • @BlackTieBarn
      @BlackTieBarn  Рік тому +5

      Yes that is true to a large degree and I echo the same mostly in my videos. The only caveat is that some waxes until are heated to a high enough temp stay sort of thick and do its harder to blend. So I basically just try to make sure the wax is liquid. I've never had problems. And also correct... it's more of a "blend" than a binding action. We just tend to use both words. Lol.

    Hi Guys! I am using ceda serica apricot coconut wax. I LOVE this wax. I am a new candlemaker and I am learning so much from your channel! My Question….I heat my wax to 205, add FO and pour right away. I pour right away because according to the manufacturer directions it says pour right away….should I be letting it cool to around 160 before pouring or keeping pouring right away with ceda serica wax?

    • @200sgames
      @200sgames 3 місяці тому

      I use pro blend 600. I personally heat up to 200, then I pour into my pitcher and let it cool to 185 and add my fragrance, then I let it cool to 140/145 and pour in my candle jar

    Great video! Thank you! I've been trying to get my candle business up and running but the testing phase with wicks is killin me! I have tried Eco, Premiere 700, CDN and CD and so far CD has been my go to but I still have issues. I feel like I have tried every single size in every single brand out there. I am using PB 600 and love the wax, but you saying tins are hard to wick and the size....I have two sizes a 8 oz tin that is 3 inches in diameter and a 4 oz that is 2.5 inch in diameter. SO far CD 3-4 is okay in the 4 oz depending on the FO, but wicking the 8 oz, im having to double wick with a CD 3 and CD 2. Both seem over wicked but burn okay. But every other wick seems to small or to large. Anyway...I appreciate the video! You guys are rockstars!

    • @BlackTieBarn
      @BlackTieBarn  Рік тому +1

      Thanks Christa! Yeah I love tins don't get me wrong, just harder to wick usually. I prefer double wicking the larger ones as well. But I also prefer using premiers in them since I have more control of sizing.

    Love the collaboration...very engaging! I am brand new to this so I'm wondering when making each batch, how do you figure out how much FO to add? I know you mentioned 9% in this video but I'm not sure what that is referencing. Do you have videos that specifically discuss the amount of FO? Also, do you blend FO's and if so, how do you determine the ratios? Really appreciate your insight!

      Hello there, so I tested with the Premier 720 and I feel it's too small. Will test with the 725 and see how that works out.
      I tested my candle after a day and the HT on day 1 was ok(not impressed) after that no HT and my candle is brown. What did I do wrong?

      @@muriel90 Yah, in that size I mostly use 720 to 730s (two of them). One wick in that jar will be too small. Just wanted to make sure you were aware it was double wick not a single wick for that jar size. Also, give your candles more than a day for the hot throw. Try again in a week. Also, fragrance oil type and amount matters. There are so many things it could be so I can't really tell you what the specific issue might be unfortunately. As far as the candle being brown, that... I have no idea. Id do some more tests and see if it conitnues.

      @@BlackTieBarn Hi Wade, I double wicked with Premier 720. I will try the next 2 sizes up to see if it helps. I am thinking I did not allow it time to cure. How many days do I cure it? I read 2 weeks for all soy wax but since this is a blend. How many days do you think will give me the best results? I had a little leftover that I put in a small container and this morning CT is amazing. Will keep testing.
      Thank you for your advice. Much appreciated.
