- Join me and follow long in this video walkthrough while I discuss making, packaging, and shipping over 500 candles for over 150 orders. This large candle making process was for a fundraiser. Cancer sucks and I wanted to do a fundraiser to help my sis with this battle, at least financially and in any other way I could. We talk candle prep, candle making, packaging and shipping orders, as well as little candle making tips and tricks a long the way. While extremely time consuming, this was a fun video to make. This is amazing !!!! And I am a current mail carrier myself . I can say before packages get to the point of where it’s in a mail carrier’s possession for delivery .. that for sure the packages have been tossed into separate gurneys regardless if it is labeled fragile or not . i always double box too. I had a customer once get very nasty when she received her order. She was cross that I had used so much packaging. I told her it was all recyable and the packing peanuts were compostable, but she didn't believe me. She insisted I was to take back the packaging, even though I told her not to waste her money shipping it back. A few days later her empty box turned up, complete with packing chips. It had cost her more than value of the order to ship back! I couldn't reuse the contents of the packaging was all covered in sticky residue, and it all ended up in the bin! I still double box, as I'd rather this than a disappointed customer receive an order that has been smashed to bits.

Lol. People get angry about all sorts of stuff. I don't always double box anymore. It depends on the order size, etc. There are definitely ways to still pack securely without double box. But I felt this was a good starting point for those struggling

16:55 Regarding "FRAGILE" labels and carriers, as a former FedEx and amazon driver I can absolutely confirm that putting those labels on your box mean NOTHING and yes you are correct, SOME drivers absolutely will be rougher with your box if they see those labels, some are just pricks while others don't normally do it but in times of high stress will throw or kick your box if its within sight while they are having a fit and be like " F your fragile box". Pack accordingly.

Hi Wade, thanks so much for all of the great advice and help but I think I can help you. I sell and ship 1000's of items a year. 1st - They have bubble wrap pouches with a self-adhesive sticker instead of 3 pieces of tape on each candle. 2nd - Have you looked into Priority Flat Rate? 3rd - Brown boxes are cheaper, unless of course you use the white as your branding. 4th - It's not necessary to print invoices/packing slip for you or your customer, everything is on online. I know these steps will save money and time. This vid is over a year old so you may have already made some changes. Just some advice from a fan.
Hi David, I only wrapped these candles this specific way for this fundraiser. I also use brown boxes (except for this fundraiser and a few other purposes. Priority flat rate cost much more than what I use to ship 90% of my orders. Just depends on the order and where its going. I know it isn't necessary to print packing slips I just know the majority like it so I've always done it. Its certainly optional. :) And you are definitely right.. I change things up every year. Ha!

I am learning as much as I can about candle making and boy it is so much too learn as there seem so many factors and layers involved. I plan to make candles just for me because I buy big box brands like crazy and I hate when the quality is not the same . I rather create my own scents and maybe make them as gifts.

So happy you got more orders than you expected. I had a growth in my head and after two surgeries and radiation the tumor has not grown in 10yrs. It's every stressful for all. Hope all goes well for your sister❤

@@lifewithamberb actually good at the moment. It was rough for a while trying to find a donor that matched and was approved. In fact, they never got the full match they were looking for. So they had to go to plan B which was 50% matches. My neice was the donor. That was a while back now, and it was rough for a bit. Had to be super careful, she had no immune system, etc. But she is on the mend now, canncer is currently gone but she has routine checkups of course and just ongoing monitoring now. :)

I appreciate how organized your process is. I love the wrapping of the candles in the black tissue. I looked in the description but didn’t see where this came from. I know you can get this anywhere but it looked to be a different size than your basic tissue sheets.

I find this video to be fate. I've been making candles for a while now and my inspiration to start was my best friend being diagnosed with Leukemia, my first candle was made for her. Eventually when I launch and sell this candle, profits will go towards the LLS. I've been struggling lately with a few things and seeing this video has given me a renewed passion. I admire all your hard work and the time spend filming, editing and making candles. Great job! I'm sure it's not easy but when a person is determined they can do anything. Question tho. When do you get time for yourself too relax and not work? Can you ever do that? Do u ever take a vacation and if so how? I'm curious because I am in the early stages of starting my candle buisness.
