I think the most important aspects of his videos are the EQ graphs in real time. It helps me understand what I am listening to and what I am looking for. Thx man!
It is an interesting variant of the G12H family, I would say. Although it is so prominent in the 5-6kHz region and up the register, compared to the V30, it is not that harsh to my ears than the G12H-30- 70th-Anniversary. I have to admit that I did like the reference position of the TAD speaker more than your sweet spot. It sounded more articulate in the ref. pos. and more dense in the later sweet spot. But anyway, again a fantastic job done by you, featuring a speaker!👌
Quite an interesting one. I think I like it more than the V30 here, at least close mic. In the room it might be a bit harsh. The differences seem pretty complex to describe, imo. It's fuller, but not in a honky 1khz area type of way. It's brighter, very bright even, but has pretty much no fizz. I'd almost say it seems more scooped - but really it isn't, somehow. I like it. Open but not scooped, not honky but full enough, bright but not fizzy. Thank you very much for providing IRs too!
Sounds awesome, I’m already a huge fan of the g12h 70th though, so I’m not shocked by that. Probably am dating myself a bit here but the two sound very similar in the general profile, but the v30 sounds like it’s being broadcast on AM and the g12h TAD sounds like switching over to FM. The v30 is congested sounding by comparison. Confounded by the comments I’m reading about the g12h TAD sounding “darker” when it clearly has more highs and high mids both audibly and visually on the graph below 10k.
Yep, it’s a greenback alright. That 1-2k really just comes out swinging. Not my favorite under a lot of gain, but it was a delightful compliment to the v30.
Awesome video as always! Every single video of your I see I'm just reminded again and again how much I dislike the V30 haha. That TAD speaker is very interesting sounding, super bright, very tight. I'd be curious to see how it would sound paired with something like and Eminence Swamp Thang, or Private Jack. Two speakers that are, in my experience, fairly dark and rich sounding.
I tried the IR in my Demofx Be-ODx Plus -->M-Wave IR Box, for some reason TAD 30 sound reference sounds fanastic while TAD 30 and V30 IR's sound too scooped. Nonetheless fantastic and balanced IR
I must say that I really like the TAD speaker. Would love to hear it against the H75 Anniversary. I still much prefer EV's, specifically the EVM12L from the 80's/90's. Now thats a video I'd be interested in you doing John 😉
Personally don't like it for distorted sounds. It kind of has those wimpy and harsh upper mid i'd expect of a bad v30. Adds a lot of atonal noise to the sound. The v30 has a better and fuller midrange and less frequencies that need cutting in the upper mids and highs.
I have a quad of these. Love them. Funny that you mention the lack of a white label on them- I emailed Celestion twice about it purely out of curiosity but they did not reply to me.
I'd give the win to the Vintage 30, but that doesn't mean the Tad speaker couldn't win with a different amp or an amp with different setup tubes in it. I believe that amps are 90% tube selection anyway. I've done a ton of swapping tubes in and out to know that I can change my Coreblade's sound character quite a bit by doing so.
@@TheOtherJohnBrowne I found that speakers that don't produce a wide range of frequencies don't give a good representation of the different character tubes that can provide the overall sound. I think this is because if the speaker has limited high-end frequencies and limited mid-range you're not going to notice the difference in tubes. I also noticed that brands made at different factories will provide the biggest differences. One other thing I think would be interesting to see would be putting the same tubes taken out of one amp and put in another amp to see how it changes the sound when using the same cab and guitar.

Let's all agree to call it "the 70th" and save millions of collective syllables.
Brilliant!
The mix between the two is where it's at.
I actually prefer the TAD here - a bit darker which is usually a more pleasing sound to me.
Great to see you expanding your collaborations!
Cheers!
Thanks man! It's been a wild year with many opportunities

Totally agree
What a brilliantly good description!
The mix of these two rocks!
God damn got speaker GAS now. Thanks John.
Thank you..I appreciate your channel.. Rock on man ...peace
Thank you!

I get what you mean. To me it sounds very balanced and clear. A very pleasant, well rounded speaker
Im simple man, i see Vintage i Give Like🤘
You must have nightmares about "variances" ;) I lose my mind over that sometimes. Awesome video as always!!
Hahaha! Cheers, Dan! It's hard to find the point to draw the line at when it comes to parameters and variances but it's all good fun!
@ agreed. Except when it feels that I’m just chasing my tail 😂😂😂
Been there. Done that 😂
You're my go to speaker guy!
Even though I still have to test it for my own music, this speaker sounds fantastic here. DAMN
Give it a try if you can. I really like it
@TheOtherJohnBrowne I recorded a demo today and tried it. Crushing
Sounds good with V30
It's a nice one for sure
For me it sounds like G12H30 70th
Waiting for comparison TAD vs G12H30
Nice video as ussual.
Thanks for Room Mic 🤘🤘🤘

I'd love to but EVs are so expensive
Nice Other Celestion Speaker sound from TOJB... Thanks For I.R TOJB
As always. The blend wins it.
More is more
I prefer it over the V30 in this video. They sound great together though. 😊
It's really pleasant to my ears too
🔥 Another good one
Cheers, mate! Made on a Kreative Device
@TheOtherJohnBrowne Enjoy your Notebook Pro G16
@KreativeDevices I am!
To me it has a nice darker tone. Both would work. I just prefer the V30
The v30 is actually quite a bit darker here.
@@asymmetrymedia9838 I guess it comes off a little more subdued. Which to me translates as darker.
@@BradRocker Weird, the anniversary here is quite literally brighter both on the graph and audibly. The more subdued one here is the V30.
@@asymmetrymedia9838 No trouble. we'll agree to disagree. I'm just partial to the V30 I guess. But that Anniv.TAD does sound great too.
@@BradRocker Oh i prefer the v30 by far here, but exactly because it's darker and smoother tone than the TAD
Great video! Another speaker to have gas for.... great.... 😂

Testing tubes and their tonal effects was on the do list for 2024 but I did not get around to it. 2025 hopefully

Well, change the microphone to something less harsh (e.g. E906) and you might find TAD sounding better.
