I installed one 18000km ago on my TD5 110 2003. Simply amazing! I’m in Canada travelling 1 way trip for 650km at the time. This is a game changer, now I go over 60 mph without my ears bleeding and I save on diesel. The engine is strong enough to pull it. Your transmission has 20 speeds now! In town with traffic I keep off but I must say that it’s pretty much on all the time. Installation was pretty straight forward. Very important just remember to use the oil that is recommended if you don’t want problems. YOU WILL LOVE IT!
Hi Pierre, thanks for the feedback. It's all very new to me at the moment as I've only done 125miles since the install. Its fitted and running (Videos to follow) and it seems fine though. I do have a bit of a "tick" when decelerating (in or out of overdrive) and when running it does whine but I'm told after 10km this should diminish. I hope so but I've not completely finished the install. I still have the foam above the gear levers to be refitted completely. I'm looking forward to less noise and cheaper fuel bills. I'll keep you posted, thanks for watching 👍🏽
Yes the whining will gradually disappear after 500 km… not 10km! I’ve installed the oil carter and the temp gauge also just to make sure… it does get hotter when pulling a trailer. I haven’t notice a tick on mine.😬
Thinking about getting one , using the romer drive does it mean twice as many gear changes , like having 2 gear boxes , thanks for any info happy travels
Ashcroft do a "special" ratio gear for the transfer box which is 1:1 Basically 1000 rpm less at motorway speeds The noise reduction is amazing. My TD5 has a StormTuning stage 2 remap & a BAS intercooler which helps to pull the taller gear. It still accelerates uphill in 5th unless speed is below 50
Hi Chris, thanks for the information. Sounds like a usable alternative, and cheaper I expect! I'd like to get a remap and turbo upgrade but thats for the future! Thanks for watching 👍🏽
@@MikeMakesIt I don't think it would make a nice drive if you only had a std map :( The other option is to go for bigger diameter tyres :) But I'm happy with it :)
Well thats the main thing if you're happy with it. I'm good with mine and I get a few extra MPG. The return on investment however is not so good ☹️ but I like it 👍🏽
Hi, I believe I have an R380 5 speed already. Fitting the Roamerdrive now gives me effectively 20 gears (10 previously) as it in effect gives me an overdrive in all gears. Thanks for watching 👍🏽
Hi Airman, it reduces the amount of rev's required for the same speed when selected. The actual rev reduction is 28% say Roamerdrive. There is a link here if you wanted to contact them directly, thanks for watching 👍🏽. roamerdrive.com
@@MikeMakesIt thanks for your reply. Apologies for making a confusing question. I wanted to make the 4L ratio even lower by introducing a reduction gear.
Hi Airman, right, I understand now. I was initially going to fit a Discovery transfer box in place of my original box as the Disco box has a 1.2 ratio instead of a 1.44. It may be possible to fit a Roamerdrive to this (Disco) lower ratio box to give you an even better reduction but follow this link if it is to be fitted to a Defender as the engine has problems with sustained power with such a low ratio although its possible on a Range Rover roamerdrive.com/modeldq.html Ashcroft Transmissions ashcroft-transmissions.co.uk also may be able to help as they did supply a kit (or they can do the work for you) on converting transfer box ratios. I hope this helps a little 👍🏽
i looked at the roamerdrive but thought i might fit a pto winch one day so i got the discovery transfer box and a stage 2 tune think i sit around 2200 rpm at 100 kmh about 60 mph

@@pierrejodoin5660 I'll get the foam pad sorted and in a couple of weeks I'll have done 500miles so I'm looking to better motoring. 😀

Looking forward to part 2 Mike 👍👨🏻🏭
Watch this space!!
Fantastic breakdown and thanks for sharing Mike.
Hi, thanks for the great comment, its very much appreciated and thanks for watching 👍🏽
well worth it if you achieve lower noise and beter fuel economy looing forward to next vidio thanks mike

Nice idea. I may do this to mine. Are you in WSM I’m close by.
It transformed the truck! Yes, not far away. Thanks for watching.
Another option would be to fit the fifth gear from a manual r380 gearbox

Hi Roza, that’s a good alternative. At about 60mph I’m clocking around 1900rpm. Thanks for watching 👍🏽
