- In this video, I'll give you a quick overview and beginners tutorial of Google Analytics.
By the end of this beginner style tutorial, my goal is for you to feel confident to be able to view and understand your website traffic.
While Google Analytics can be very complex and overwhelming, the basics are quite simple to understand and view. I've learned that there are 3 main areas you'll typically look at which are:
1) Audience (WHO) people are doing on your site
2) Acquisition (HOW) they got to your site
3) Behavior (WHAT) they're doing on your site

That was a really helpful tutorial! I was recently going through an online interview and being older, I did not know what Google analytics meant. But now I understand because this used to be called Web trends! I had several websites and used the service all the time to track where people were coming from and how long they were on my site and remembered unique visitors versus complete page visitors and page views. So the name has changed and the platform but basically I really clicked with this video once I realized what it was. I will have to check out your channel because being an older person returning to the industry as well as visually impaired, a lot of things have changed LOL thank you again!

I wanted to ask, does the Google Analytics info include visits from Googles own crawlers?
I have software installed on my site that shows Google crawlers on the site 3 time a day.

Thank you for the information. Question, I have set up a Google Ad (2023), however, it keeps saying 'my ad can show, however, there is a problem, fix it'. The problem they refer to is, a) I need to add 'Google Tag' & b) 'set up conversion measurement'. My question is, if I do not set up 'Google tag & Conversation Measurement', does it impact my AD being seen by people? I have a Canva website with a link to a Google Form for people to fill out, so not sure how I can set up Tags and conversions.

that was great but i have a question. In my home page, I can only see two stats which are "users in last 30 mins" and "engagement time" I don't have any data regarding device types, locations, or other things in your homepage. I made my account 10 minutes ago so is there a chance that rest of those data will be added later to my home page or i can add them manually by customising?

Great video. In my acquisition data, why is my sessions by default channel group the exact same number as sessions by session default google ads campaigns. It doesn't make sense?
I found this video a nice introduction to some basic features, but the video is about a version of Google Analytics that will no longer be used by summer of 2023. Thus, it would be helpful, Josh, if you made another simple video with the GA4 version which is the latest that everyone will now be getting in anticipation of the old version going obsolete, and then you deleted this video, replacing it with the more up to date one. For example, while I could add Bounce and Engagement rate to GA4, many of the terms you referenced are no longer in use or were absorbed into a feature called Explorations. Therefore, as often happens in this crazy digital world, your video is out of date, and needs to be updated, or I would recommend viewers finding an introductory video for GA4, the latest version. I hope Josh does it though, as I found his thinking so crystal clear, reducing our needs to 3 basic functions - that is what I would like to see but with the latest GA4 version!
when I set analytics up it shows Acquisition, Engagement and Monetisation not Realtime, Audience, Acquisition etc

Does unique pageview restart if you close out of window before reopening it? Meaning that exiting out of it (but not closing it) then entering back into it 4 times is 1 unique view and 4 page views?

Thank you for this tutorial! One question I have... what is the difference between referral and direct under the channels category?
Nobody ever answered you....I have the same question.
I would assume direct being a user entering the URL to his site to access it (I.E.: you coming to this video by typing "ua-cam.com/video/njri8_gJTs0/v-deo.html" in your navigation bar.) Whereas referral would be a redirect to this video (I.E.: A blog page explaining google analytics with this video linked as a reference at the bottom.)
Hi! I don't have the audience option! I can't find it anywhere! and I wanted to check my "Active Users right now" is there any chance anyone here can help me?! The only graph I can see is the one that says "USERS IN LAST 30 MINUTES", I also did all the steps that Josh said in another video :)

Unfortunately this is out of date as Google Analytics has switched to the new GA4 dashboard. I plan to do an updated tutorial this year!

You should change your placements on Facebook to target Instagram. Auto placement is just forcing it to Facebook I’m sure

Im missing the "behavior" section in my google analytics page. Why is this?

To avoid creepy, don’t have location on mobile phone turn on and use a VPN. Also, if your internet provider doesn’t sell you out, some internet providers don’t give out information. It’s getting really pervasive with these companies using mobile apps tracking your location and hearing your private conversations. We need regulation on privacy rights.
