Speed painting Ultramarines | Leviathan

- Been a long time coming, but I finally paint up an Ultramarine! I didn't like the blues in the original Speedpaints, but with 2.0 that's now changed! The Leviathan box set twisted my arm and now I'm flopping between nids and marines! How is everyone getting on with their box?

Any one got any golden tips to share when speedpainting flat areas?
Could you make a video like this with intercessors or other space marines? Because intercessors tend to have guns that cover their crest and gold lined pauldrons, more annoying stuff like that. Also, maybe include how to use nuln oil and why to use it? You're good at this man :)
What about the blood raven or imperial fists videos?
Oh! I didn't see those 🤔 @@WatchItPaintIt
You didn't even highlight and it's fucking awesome. My new favorite miniature paint channel, hands down.
Highlighting could smash it up a level but I’m pretty damn happy with the much less effort good tabletop finish. Glad you like the channel! Made me happy :-)
I have the "Most Wanted 2.0" set and the Tau Boarding patrol waiting for me to have some time to paint.
Thanks for the demo
Plenty to keep you busy then!!! Hope you enjoy :-)
I've been finding that if I thin the 2.0 paints a little and do 2 coats that I am getting pretty solid coverage. I've also been finding that doing a wash over the metallic speed paints can help even them out over a white basecoat.
Great tip! Not sold on two coats, but I’ll definitely try a little medium from your suggestion. And then if it needs another coat! Thanks for the tips. Stay tuned and see if I change how I do marines :-D thanks man
Dark grey undercoat, medium grey lower zenithal, light grey higher zenithal, white drybrush with a soft makeup brush. Then blue Contrast unthinned with an airbrush - done. No more stains, no more worries.
Thanks for the tips!
@@WatchItPaintIt my pleasure. :)
1st thought would be to airbrush your speedpaint on instead, then panel line the recesses.
Or if you want to brush it on, maybe glue something like modelling chain or purity seals across the middle of armour panels to divide them up a bit and give your paint some recesses to work from/into.
Love to see a tutorial for that assault marine
Speedpaint works extremely well on flat panels but you need some medium. For most colours do a 3:1 ration, e.g. 3 drops slaughter red to 1 medium. Some a bit stronger colours like Grim black can be done with 2:1 but 3:1 can still work. Thinner colours like shamrock green doesnt need medium.
I also prime using black then zenithal grey seer with white scar at the highest point. Hope that helps.
Completely agree. I pretty much mix everything 3 or 4:1 now.
thank you sir
I love it! Speedpaints are the way to go! Excited for more speed painting 2.0 videos!
Glad you like them! Definitely will do more!
Personal experience is to use a few thin (like half a drop in the brush at most amount) coats and rely on a zenithal to do the contrast for you.
That’s a great alternative. I bet the zenithal can help hide the patches too. I’ll give this method a try too and see which I’m most fond of
Have you ever done a decal application tutorial?
I have a bad habit of them folding over.
I have! Nothing you probably don’t already do though. Worth a watch just in case. I have moved now to using decal softener too. And I’m going to look into decal setter.
Love it and it looked great! Would love to see how you use the SpeedPainter set for a Grey Knight… asking for… me…
Thanks man, ooooh. I’ll see what I can do!
@@WatchItPaintIt I appreciate it! I have a whole table of Grey Knights and I just picked up the Mega Speed Paint set. Will be cool to see how you handle all the metallics combined.
Lovely vid, and i enjoyed other viewers suggestions about thinning. I gyess it depends whether you use slap chop or not, makes sense to have thin speedpaint if you have a good contrasted slap chop, but if white basecoat only i think your technique looks pretty good, aside from a bit of pooling at the base of some panels. Looking awesome anyway! 👍👍
I agree with you completely. If I’d slap chopped a bit of thinning would be very interesting! I’m still going to try the suggestion. Maybe a splash of medium just helps reduce the staining. Ultimately, I’m always gonna expect a little mess with such a fast paint job, I just wanted to help share some ways to get the best Speedpaint result we can!
can you paint horus with speed paints 2.0, a sort of guide tutorial
I would love to see a speedpainting deathwing terminator video sometime soon
Oh boy oh boy. Me too! I need a non Leviathan terminator to take for a spin. I really want to paint my whole Leviathan box Ultramarine so I can finally play :-D
Do you think you could do a speed painting of some astra militarum units? I just bought the armypainter speed paint starter bundle (Will probably get the mega pack soon as well) I'm just waiting for them to be delivered but I would love to see your portrayal of painting some of those units if possible?
I’ll see if I have any! Would be a really quick and easy paint job I think. I did a tutorial on them years ago using contrast, so just have to work out the equivalent colours :-)
@@WatchItPaintIt Thanks! :) I actually discovered speed paint cause of you! I really wanted to get into painting but just didn’t have the time to paint them to a really good standard my paints come today so I’m excited to give them a go!
I mean I just go fast like sonic
Don’t drop your rings!
Best tip is not to use speed paint for flat panels, just always looks so bad. Your better off just using standard acrylic, wash and layer. I save contrast for just textured things.
While that’s very true. I have no fun or time to paint my marines like that! I find all the edge highlighting soul destroying. But you’re absolutely correct if you have the time and patience it will be a lot better finish!
