I love that you take the time to add such beautiful details to the oak beam that you will pass by daily. It's the 'little' things that add so much to our lives. Thank you for reminding us of that! Much admiration for you both! ❤
A Budo video today. Love the circular way of stacking the firewood. Looks better than just the flat pile and safer for your sweet doggie. I was mesmerized by you carving that huge oak beam. It looks really lovely with that bit of art!😊You and Tracey have a lovely week on your French Farm!
Budo, it's always a joy to me to see a craftsman at work, i only wish i could do that. Your joinery speaks for itself, as a non carver, you do a fabulous job. I know you will enjoy passing under that everyday you are in the workshop, i would. The details, for those who appreciate that kind of thing, will never stop seeing them.
Budo i think the carving is bueatiful.and to add beauty to anything is a plus. I got to say you really know how to work wood i find it awesome to watch.
Wonderful to see you socializing with and learning from your French neighbors. So many Brit (and Murrican) expats don't. Love Lionel's circular wood stack, happy to think Chezzy won't be avalanched by wood.
Oh, Buto, that looks awesome. What a difference a few details make. Those are nice touches to add to the richness and value of the barn. You are a true craftsman.
I like hearing you talk. You teach things better when you talk. I could see a ball above that center decoration carved into the wood like an inverse bull's eye
Creativity, tenacity and talent! You never cease to amaze us mere mortals. Always enjoy videos from Budo and Tracy. Regards from sunny San Jose, California.
Looks like you two are really making good progress on the barn ! Non stop for you at this point, trying to work against the clock, before the weather changes and the rain comes. Thanks for sharing your lives with us. Sincerely in San Diego California
Absolutely beautiful workmanship! One of my favourite things is beautifully carved wood, And you are very very skilled at it! I am a potter, I worked with porcelain and I used to carve it, it’s a very enjoyable to see the carvings come to life under your hands. Blessings from🇺🇸.
You don't talk too much. People have said that to me, and I tell them then to don't listen enough. It is the way we express ourselves and share ourselves. Anyway, this was fun to watch, and I learned a lot, I bet it it will look so wonderful entering your workshop and barn
some creature - on vacation from Mars - in about 300 years' time - will truly appreciate the extra care and love you put into this huge piece of already 300 year old oak - they might even be able to watch your recording doing it - the old school manual way.....👀👀👀👀
Love your comments, especially the measurements. 30 years as a custom cabinet and furniture maker, I go back and forth between the two. Many of the cabinet hardware and hinging is in metric and our machines are in old money.👍
Oh my gosh Buddo, what an amazing beam! And its just for the barn! The time and effort you put into everything you do is just amazing! What a master craftsman you are. Love watching your amazing work.
This is so wonderful reusing and saving these old oak beams. In the United States, what we call this is custom carpentry and I love that you’re saving and restoring this old farm and Homestead and it will be still standing for future generations after you’re gone. Love your channel, good job
You working on that beam is beautiful to watch Budo it’s only for the barn, but it’s going to be one pretty beam to look at. Love your woodwork skills that beam is a piece of art now. Thanks for sharing loved the video 👏👏👏
Here where we live we have tons of southern pines and gaboodles of pine cones. We use the pinecones for fire starters. You could do the same and put them in the center of your wood stack. Which by the way looks really neat.
Thank you betty great idea we have some really big pine cones we got while on holiday in Southern Spain which l use for Christmas as they are so lovely 😻
Hi Vivien thank you yes we are working on the barn so when the Chestnut that I cut to make the tops turns up from the dryer I can make them for the kitchen 😉 x
What a beautiful way to stack wood! And not only to keep Chezzy safe, but anyone that goes to the wood pile; it only takes one log to destabilize it. :-)
Thank you Pauline so glad it brings great memories of your grandads workshop I love the smell of particularly cedar of Lebanon and red wood pine shavings xx
I love watching you work, Budo. It is therapeutic to watch a craftsman at his work. I have loved watching the stonemasons on 'Chateau de Purnon', and the craftsman who reproduced the two Kings busts, that they discovered in pieces on the property. Then there is the group who repair and restore the original frieze work in French Chapels, Churches and Cathedrals. Watching young people learning from the older craftsmen. You do not see that here, at least, not in the places I have resided in Canada. Ronnie.
I love carving. I have been wanting to attends a Canadian west coast aboriginal mask carving course the last two years. Seems something always pops up that I can’t do it. 😞
Fascinating to watch you do that Budo and a brilliant job to boot (I don’t understand that one either). Hope your going to leave the saw marks as is, it gives the oak an old age hand sawn finish, just a thought, brill job none the less (Opps, another one lol). Stay well.
The lintel looks great Budo, the smell of the wood must be nice whilst you are working on it. Will you be putting your name and date on it,for future generations to see ?
It’s part of all the other stuff I have to do one thing leads to another the beam has to be done so I might as well do it the way I like it not just have the attitude how can I do this as easily as possible and as quickly as i can then to find out later that’s not what I wanted that would be bodging in my thinking
Hi Chris we will very shortly be offering work shop weeks we're people can spend time here learning a subject and also get to know and see how we live also we allow our patrons to visit as you can appreciate we have many people wanting to visit us which is very humbling for us but we are so busy we have to keep it to patrons only for now but thank for asking 😀

Watch Sundays video Darren I put the beam in on me Todd
@@FrenchFarmhouseDiaries oh wow, a bit like me wrestling in a lintel for the bathroom
That beam is going to look so good over the barn door. When are you going to finish the kitchen. Tracy must be champing at the bit for it to be done.

I love carving. I have been wanting to attends a Canadian west coast aboriginal mask carving course the last two years. Seems something always pops up that I can’t do it. 😞
There's no time like the present go for it you can do it 🍺🤠👍🏻
It's very pleasant to watch the design take shape on the beam. Interesting process for one who has no plans to try it. 😊
Glad you liked it! Thank you for watching 😍🙏
So talented
Thank you 😍🙏
Beaudoful. Loved the circle of wood and the flare on the beam. Using the talents that you have.
Thank you so much 😍🙏
What a great job and a great way to reuse that amazing oak beam.
Keep up the good work.!!!

I’m not sure what it is about your videos when you’re working with wood but I find myself watching and I’m not even interested in wood…😂🙃❤

Great idea thank you 🙏😍
I use the ‘old money’ phrase, I think from my dad
Yes that's were I picked it up mate from me old man he was a Carpenter too and i worked with him for many years picking up his London slang LOL
Just wanted to get the comment section started.
Thank you so much for your loyalty Phyllis 😍Xxx
Will you treat the oak beam with anything
Yes we will 😍thank you for watching 🙏
Oh my poor husband got stung by a hornet on the back of his neck. Those are so painful.
Yes hornets do hurt especially the ones we have here are the size of your thumb Luminyam xx
Really interesting mate. How do you decide to spend more time on a distinctive finish when you've got so much other stuff to do ?
It’s part of all the other stuff I have to do one thing leads to another the beam has to be done so I might as well do it the way I like it not just have the attitude how can I do this as easily as possible and as quickly as i can then to find out later that’s not what I wanted that would be bodging in my thinking
Don't like the thumping music, my neighbour complained.
Well this is my tactic to get more subscribers ask him to like share and subscribe LOL
Imagine 100,200 years time people will still be looking at that and wonder who did it
That will be wonderful 😍🙏
Love your updates, we are driving from Epsom to our new home in the Southwest, do you allow visits?
