Tomettes for sure! I had a similar kitchen and after 40 years the tiles were as good as new and it never "dated". It will be the perfect finish to your beautiful kitchen.
The tomette tiles look fabulous and very authentic too, as most of the farmhouses would have had these inside, the kitchen looks beautiful by the way ❤
Yes tiles for sure they will look lovely . Nice addition the carved wooden bit in the edges Budo. Glad you went for the white on the windows they look really nice Tracy. Loved watching always😘😘
When the walls are painted and those tiles are on the floor your kitchen will be amazing. I'm so loving the transformation of your home. I'm so envious of you to have a gorgeous stone home barn and beautiful surroundings. Enjoy your renovating journey.
Hello, just wanted to get the comments section started. Looking forward to seeing the latest progress on your homestead. I always enjoy watching you on a Sunday. A nice distraction from the political videos I keep up with. As always, thank you for sharing your busy lives with us. Sincerely in San Diego California
The tiles are beautiful, they would make the kitchen look awesome. Love everything in the kitchen, I can't wait to see it finished and I know Tracy is ready to start working in the kitchen
The tiles are easier to maintain in a kitchen than wood. They are far more forgiving of water than wood. Wood is better than tile in a dining room. The joints of dining chairs can be compromised by the uneveness of tile.
Greetings French Farmhouse Friends Budo & Tracey, not my home, but if it were, I would go with the tile. It adds a bit of brightness, color and warmth. You have the beautiful wood counter-tops already. I know you will do what you feel that is best for the both of you and whatever you chose it will be fabulous. Your home will be a show stopper when it is finished!😊
I like a flooring that is uniform, ie: the same style running from dinning to kitchen otherwise it would look like a patchwork. Definitely sealing with a couple of coats. Love your work.
❤ I vote for the tiled floor. Love the look of the kitchen that you have created. You will be so satisfied when the kitchen is done because you have done it yourselves.
I like the tile but you’re having the wood on the countertops so if you have a wood floor that’s gonna be too much that’s a good contrast and more durable❤
11:58 IMO, the tile will work better in the kitchen than wood. I had wood in one of my kitchens and tile in the other kitchen. Tiles were easier to care for and held up better than the wood. In the long run.
There are advantaged to both flooring systems and disadvantages too. the wood is easier on your legs and if you drop a dish on it there is less of a chance of it breaking but it is harder to maintain then the tile flooring. The tile flooring is beautiful and warm looking but in truth unless you have underfloor heading it is cold under foot in the winter and harder on your legs and as I have said if you drop something breakable on it welllllll enough said. Some folks I have seen have done a hybrid system of a grid of tiles tied together by planks. An interesting idea but not sure how practical that is. In the in Do what will make you happy. it is your house after all.
We really like the tomettes, just a little remark about your dining room, the correct term is SALLE A MANGER, for the living room is SALLE DE SEJOUR or SALON. I really admire your efforts with the language as i am French native speaker living in the UK. Bravo.
I'd choose the tomettes hands down. You've used them elsewhere and intend to use them in other parts of the house. Putting them in the kitchen will unify the house decor-wise. Although I love all the English touches you've added to the place, it is, after all, a French farmhouse and would add a French touch to the kitchen. I think they look fabulous next to Budo's outstanding kitchen cabinets.
The colour of the tomets enhances the units but woudn't the tile be hard on your feet if standing for so long in the kitchen, i like the wood as feel it would be warmer.
Team tomette here. They are beautiful. I like the contrast in texture and colour in the kitchen. The beautiful wooden floor would be lovely in the dining room or the future sitting room
As much as I like the terra cotta floor tiles, I, personally, prefer the wood. Wood is quieter, which is why I was tickled when Budo did the wooden countertops. I'm thinking, too, that you will, over time accumulate a number of broken tiles. Granted, like sections of wood, you can pull up tiles and replace them. But it's easier to replace a type of wood that might be 10 years used and can be stained to match as opposed to fitting in a new ceramic tile amongst older ones. But, at the end of the day, you'll do what you want.
You have to go tile, so lovely. I now have to go and buy a magnifying glass to check my water and might have to think about filter. Loving the kitchen, and we both have the same colour for the Kitchen. Also Budo do you attach this filter system to kitchen tap and do you electrical plug etc ? Me and Chim are going through all the videos,
Hi Jacqueline thank you kindly on the water filter system its a great bit of kit and will give you A1 drinking water its charged with a USB or solar even in your car its really more for an emergence or if you go camping or say the water at home goes down i think you can plum it in if you have a spare tap but for me i love it as i only drink highly filtered water thats why i put one on our fridges drinking water and ice hope this helps all the best Budo xx
For me, there's no contest... the tomette tiles are in keeping with the age/style of the original building. While Buddo's craftsmanship shines masterfully on everything he's touched and certainly could craft a stunning wood floor, I think the tiles will create a more "bespoke" complimentary feature to your exquisitely beautiful craftsman farmhouse kitchen! Besides, I think tiles will stand up to a malfunctioning leak from a sink, dishwasher, or laundry washer better than a wood floor might... especially if a pipe broke while you were away for a few days... just a thought! I love this kitchen so far. The windows are beautifully crafted by Buddo and painted by Tracy. I can't wait to see all the rest of your antique dishes, crystal copper, etc, adorning your custom bespoke kitchen, Tracy!🥰
Funny you are considering the terra-cotta tiles for the kitchen. I personally love them. Currently in the housing market to purchase and have found a beautiful French style stone home in the US with the same (similar) tile throughout most of the ground floor. My only concern is as I get older could the unevenness with grouting being lower affect footing. Otherwise totally choose the tile. Especially if you could use the beautiful wood for something else. Oh the difficult life decisions…
Tomettes would be my choice! I love the warmth of colour they give against the cabinets. Your kitchen is looking set to be absolutely stunning! Love it!
It is a tough call for the flooring. The wood is warmer on the feet, tiles colder. As you said, dropping things on tile makes them break more easily. The wood floor and the wood coutertops will compete unless they are the same wood and the same stain. The tiles looks very nice. I don't know if your kitchen is at the same level as the adjacent room but I do like a continuous floor in adjacent rooms. However if there is a level change, then it is ok to change floors. It sounds like you are leaning toward the tiles and I do have to say, they are lovely against the cabinet bases.
Love the tiles instead of the wood. I had hardwood flooring and it takes a lot of hits and I was forever fixing. I would suggest putting them in on point. I know it’s more work but really nice. Things don’t bounce so if you drop something it will brake. A long mat at the sink and chopping area helps.
If it were me, I probably would go with the wooden floor just because I don’t know how to take care of the tomettes, but it sounds like you’ve lived with them before, so you must know what the drawbacks and benefits are of having them in the kitchen. If all you’re asking is what looks good, I, too, like the tomettes but the difficulty of caring for them would be a barrier for me. Not everyone is afraid of extra work like I am, tho, lol. Do you have enough tiles to run them all the way under the cupboards right to the wall or will you leave the subfloor bare where it can’t be seen? It’s always been a pet peeve of mine when that happens because if you ever want to change around your cabinets later, your flooring won’t match. I have a summer cottage that I’ve been thinking of putting a reverse osmosis system in under the sink but I hesitated because I don’t like the special faucet that you have to run the filters through, it’s so small and it takes so long to fill a pot that I’m just not that thrilled with the idea. I noticed that you don’t have the faucets Installed in your countertop, yet, what will the situation be? I’m sure you’re holding them back to have a big reveal later which is fine, but I just wonder what the set up will be. Will there be a main faucet for washing dishes and then the smaller one for drinking water? That’s what I’d like to know.
Yes we have had them before. The tiles will be laid up to the units and the skirting boards will sit on top of the tile and l doubt in the time we are here we will take the kitchen out and also the faucet will go in soon and we are just with for some components to turn up but we understand were you are coming from sylvanaire thank you for watching and your comment 🙏😍
I agree with most comments regarding the flooring. With the natural wood countertops the tiles work beautifully. Hello again guys, from your long time lurker.
When we redid our kitchen we took advantage of having a completely open space to lay our floor. Didn’t have to work around cabinets etc it was an excellent decision on are part!🇨🇦🇨🇦
Hi Teresa yes that's ok if your floor covering doesn't cost a fortune but over half our floor will be covered by cabinetry and terracotta flooring tiles At £125 per square meter that's very wasteful that would be for us around £1175 hidden away also if we go for hard wood its the same and not good for the environment to cut down then hide away all the best Budo x
The wood floor could look really nice in the kitchen, but I could not have a wood floor in my own kitchen, I always make too much mess and spilling water when cooking. I think tiles are the right choice. 👍
I must say you guys have exquisite taste when it comes to styling out a cottage farmhouse. And of course Budo, is a master Carpenter! I cannot wait to see the kitchen when it's finished with all the beautiful details. Much love from Oklahoma USA Jackie 🇺🇸💖💖💖 PS I think the terracotta floor is a perfect choice!
The kitchen is looking great! I would go for the terracotta tiles as it goes with the existing building very well, but the wood would make it look and feel warmer in the winter months. I am sure you will make the best decision and it will look fantastic.
Just my input. As you age and none of us are getting any younger, I find the terra cotta floor would be tiring to stand on all day. I have had a slate floor and it was hard to stand on all day. Wood would be my decision. Just had two knee replacements and surgeon asked what kind of floors I had. When I said wood, he was pleased.
I like wood floors in kitchens, I have them, but if you already have the tiles, and it's a step up, and you are ok with dropping things on it, I drop knives all the time, then I say go with the tile. Its looking beautiful!!!!
I absolutely love the look of the tiles, but I know a wood floor is more practical, it’s more comfortable to stand on & work in the kitchen, tiles are cold & hard, not as comfortable to stand on. ( I have a Brazilian cherry floor in my kitchen with straw colored painted cabinets which is beautiful, so wood floors also look beautiful with painted cabinets.)
We have terracotta tiles with an Aga. They don’t feel terribly cold underfoot but we have broken a couple of the tiles and it’s hard to replace them and get a colour match …I’ve never had a wooden kitchen floor though!
As much as I adore wood floors, kitchens are hard on them. I use to have terracotta floors when we had our old farmhouse, and I loved them. I think that they go with any color.
Tomettes for sure! I had a similar kitchen and after 40 years the tiles were as good as new and it never "dated". It will be the perfect finish to your beautiful kitchen.

11:58 IMO, the tile will work better in the kitchen than wood.
I had wood in one of my kitchens and tile in the other kitchen. Tiles were easier to care for and held up better than the wood. In the long run.

I was coming to say something similar. Tile in wet areas (kitchen/bath) protects the house better in case of spills and plumbing problems.
There are advantaged to both flooring systems and disadvantages too. the wood is easier on your legs and if you drop a dish on it there is less of a chance of it breaking but it is harder to maintain then the tile flooring. Can’t go wrong with either flooring option. One consideration is wood is warmer than tile in winter. Though if you have an aga it does help with that.
Thank you for watching and your comment 😍🙏
Definitely tomette for the kitchen floor (in my humble opinion!) 😊 The kitchen is looking superb😊
Thank you so much John 😊🙏

Definitely tiles in the kitchen…..warm colour, durable and ultimately practical in a ‘wet’ area 😊

Having worked as a chef, I'm here to tell you tile floors take a permanent toll on your feet and back.

Tomettes are beautiful but get yourself a padded mat for around the sink because tile is hard on your back when dish washing.

The kitchen is looking great! I would go for the terracotta tiles as it goes with the existing building very well, but the wood would make it look and feel warmer in the winter months.

Love the blue and white maybe Spode?!
yes could be Teresa x
I absolutely love the look of the tiles, but I know a wood floor is more practical, it’s more comfortable to stand on & work in the kitchen, tiles are cold & hard, not as comfortable to stand on. ( I have a Brazilian cherry floor in my kitchen with straw colored painted cabinets which is beautiful, so wood floors also look beautiful with painted cabinets.)
Thanks for sharing! Carol 😍🙏xx
I would choose whichever gets you finished for Christmas dinner.
Thank you 🙏😍
Tomettes defo Loving the look.
Thank you Vanessa 😍🙏
We have terracotta tiles with an Aga. They don’t feel terribly cold underfoot but we have broken a couple of the tiles and it’s hard to replace them and get a colour match …I’ve never had a wooden kitchen floor though!
Yes we think the Aga will make a difference 😍we have quite a lot so hopefully if some break we will have replacements thank you for watching 😍🙏
As much as I adore wood floors, kitchens are hard on them. I use to have terracotta floors when we had our old farmhouse, and I loved them. I think that they go with any color.
Oh wow! Thank you we agree 🙏😍
