    people need to realize you're only getting the quality of sound from whatever your listening to this video with....( headphones, laptop speakers...) this is something you need to hear in person.

    It would make sense that the rear speakers sound better or have a better "acoustic quality" as the camerman with the phone is recording from the backseat.

    The fronts sounded accurate and like they were "singing". As soon as he faded back to the rear it sounded like it was squeezed and muffled. Reminded me of a clock radio sound. Aftermarket is the way to go!!

    The factory speakers have much better mid bass. Paper cone speakers handle mid bass much better than most other kinds of speakers. Also that is why paper cone speakers are still used for professional systems (they are also more sensitive). However, you can tell they are cheap junky speakers. Overall your aftermarket speakers sounded much better.

    • @PaymentIsDue
      @PaymentIsDue 5 років тому +4

      I agree with this. I upgraded both my Civic and Mercedes door speakers with high end alpine door speakers I hope that I would be getting more mid bass and overall volume. This was NOT the case. Paper stock speakers sounded same almost. Difference or improvement was not enough to justify spending money and time on upgrade. And yes I did have aftermarket 100 x4 RMS amplifier on them. Just my $0.02

      upgrade to a higher end header/amp to match those aftermarket speakers that requires higher wattages, simple.....................

    I play around alot with recording gear and speakers and amp setups and i like when the drums sound live.. You hit the tom and you could feel the resonance of the tom. Factory speakers on a truck dont put that sound out there. Reason why im doing a major upgrade to my trucks sound system.

    Stock rear speakers gave the typical sounding mid-range clarity. The front aftermarket speakers sounded much better in the highs and lower bass area, the mid-range was a bit weak but that's an easy adjustment in the Head unit.

    After doing this type of work on my own, I have learned a very important thing about upgrading speakers especially on upgrading with more power. And that is you almost always still end up with distortion from vibrating door panels, dash, and etc. Almost impossible to correct. Just a waste of money from every experience I had with installing vehicle speakers.

    If people actually think the rear crappy factory speakers sound better they need their ears revoked. Another thing to remember is there's a huge difference between listening actually in the car versus on a video with the crappy camera mic which does no justice to the tonal accuracy of the front speakers. All you hear is the muddy inaccurate bass the rear factory full range provide. Trust me, in years of doing installs and setups for myself and others aftermarket blows factory out of the water 100% of the time.

      I hate people that just completely bash stock speakers cause they’re not all bad. Gm speaker are trash and that shows in this video; on the other hand Honda uses Alpine and Toyota uses Panasonic so their sound systems are pretty good for what it is. Plus most good aftermarket speakers are expensive so you can’t expect people to buy them and most people also don’t want to go through the trouble of installing them. Thank you for your time.

    I think the fronts sounded much better. At the same time I think there is something about paper cone speakers that gives a nice warm mid-bass. I don't really get the nice midbass with my new Sony splits, with woofers which seem to be made from some form of plastic?

    In all honesty most new cars are coming equipped with pretty good stock stereos and components. But in my experience, with the addition of some high quality tweeters and mids around the car. And a sub at the back, it gives that studio quality sound. Especially if the car is properly sound insulated

    @7SevenProductions0 While you did catch an error, it wasn't with the model number, it was that he referred to the camera as an "SLR" which it was not. The Canon model was the "SX1IS" which does shoot full motion video, but is a "point & shoot" and not an "SLR". HTH!--Crutchfield

    Not all Bose factory systems are the same. The Bose systems will generally offer more speakers and more power through external factory amplifiers than the basic factory sound packages. In your Acura, you can replace the factory stereo and retain the full range Bose amplifier and speakers; but if you have the Bose factory subwoofer (in the center of the rear deck), it, and the amplifier that powers it, will no longer function. check the polarity of your speakers. it sounds like the positive wire is wired into a negative terminal on one or more of your speakers. this causes the frequency of the bass to cancel out mid air.

    Try focal speakers powered by either steg or mosconi amps.. I would buy them over rockford any day! Expecially since a mosconi as300.2 pushes out almost 2k watts and costs the same as a rockford t1500.1bdcp (here in the netherlands.. in the us it's different).

I know which speakers I would need, but what other parts do I need? I don't have a clue as to what I would need to do with amps and wiring, but to make it worse I hear about all these other part that I don't know the purpose of - crossover, capacitor, etc - so again, what different parts would I need to do a full upgrade of the system, and what do they do? Thanks

    This is just my $.02, but this video probably isn't even doing it justice! I recently replaced my speakers in my F-150 with some Alpine components in the front and set of 2 ways in the back. They made the world spin the other direction. With some speakers, you must run an amplifier with them. I installed the SPR 60c and I do not think they would sound all that good off my head unit. I'm giving them 100w each, and they get LOUD! My Kickers in the back sound pretty decent just off the stereo!

    The rears had a much warmer lower mid range. The fronts have a much fuller upper midrange. Not the best way to test it though . Should’ve recorded with the factory fronts and switch to the aftermarkets. Some factory speakers can be very good . Take a listen to a factory 2003 Impala system. You’ll be impressed. It really depends on the vehicle.

    @kbryon I have studio monitors hooked up to my computer which give much more accurate sound than laptop speakers and when I hear the speakers in the video the front speakers sound much better. They sound a little quieter due to camera angles, that is probably what you are hearing. There isn't much of a chance that it is actually true that factory speakers are better than some JLs.

    Can I ask for some help. I have a '01 silverado extended cab. I have replaced all my factory door speakers with polk speakers. However the sound quality is not what I would have hoped for. The bass isnt there and the treble is week. It is better than factory, however it is not where I would like it to be. Sounds great at low to moderate volume, but if I want to listen to it some-what loud I loose quality. What speakers would you recommend for a loud clean listening experience?

  • @crutchfield
    @crutchfield  12 років тому

    If you like the mid and high range performance of the stock speakers, then all you need to fix is the bass. I have built many a systems like this. If that's all it takes to get your system to sound good for you, then that’s all you need to do. If you are asking about amplifying the stock speakers, then I recommend against it. Stock speakers usually do not last long with aftermarket amps. Feel free to call for personalizes recommendation: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

    I bought a newer car in May this year and equipped it with an aftermarket HU (Clarion CZ702e) + sub and a monoblock. I have stock components in the front and rear doors and after listening 1h in my car and arriving at a bigger store, there was a demo car with JL Speakers and a Helix Sub. After listening to those JLs my first thought was, that the car still has stock speakers. There wasn't a big difference to mine, just a small bit more clarity. It was good but nothing extraordinary and far away from studio quality. If u rly want a big step forward, deaden your doors, buy decent speakers and amplify them (if u rly want studio quality u'll need a DSP too). I had Morel Dotech Ovation 6 in my old car and my stock speakers lose in a comparison to the morels. But it was also allot more work to let the morels sound like they did then. With my stock speakers and time alignment I still have a good result, with low effort.

      most sound systems today are pretty damn good. Anything before the mid to early 2000s has shit sound and needs to be upgraded

      You shouldn't compare premium audio sound systems wich cost you extra money with stock speakers. A friend of mine has a Renault Scenic 2012 Bose Edition wich really sounds good. It get's acceptably loud too. One of the best systems so far was Harman kardon in a new Mini Paceman. Clean, loud and there was even a little bit of sound pressure in the car. I believe that many people would be very happy with this kind of system. (unfortunatly I haven't heard any Bang and Olufsen Systems so far, but people say that it sounds amazing! Rob Jansen I meant "seriously" in terms of adding a 2 channel amp to your rear speakers. No offense, but your ears are pointing forward. You woudn't stand backward to a stage on a concert aswell. You should always try to improve your frontstage before you get to any kind of rearfill. Imho rearfill is not necessary if you have a very good frontsystem. Watch some of the top level SQ cars on UA-cam, barely any of them is equipped with a rearfill.

    @TheAkshay0021 get an amp if you dont already have one, give the speakers some good listening time for them to "break in" and your ears to get used to them, and have a pro tune your amp. If none of that works get something else, ive heard of people disliking infinity's sound, I have used polk, and just ordered some polk component systems and a sub for my truck. I love the other polk systems ive used.

    heck yea dude. cause all new aftermarket stereos have more equalizer options and have a LOUD option to boost the low mid and high freq. so if u think ur speakers sound good now wait untill u get a aftermarket stereo

    hello Crutchfield I want to keep the factory look of my car so in essence that means keeping the factory radio butt I want louder better speakers. will I be required to put a converter and an amp just to power the speakers or can it be done with a factory radio. will they make a big difference having an amp or just having them run off the factory radio thank you much appreciated

      Most aftermarket speakers are more efficient than their factory counterparts so, you can get a little more volume and clarity just by replacing the factory speakers. For a significant increase in volume, you will need to add an amplifier to power the new speakers. For additional assistance and personalized recommendations, feel free to contact us directly: bit.ly/2ha9Pw2 Hope that helps!--Crutchfield

    I have stock Bose car speakers in my car and they sound great with great bass response; however, im wondering if its worth it to invest in car audio speaker brand? (Alpine, kicker, mtx etc)

      patrick svendsen I bet. Right now I'm running a 500w sub in the trunk stock speakers. For most songs I have my treble at +3 (max +6)... I'm upgrading to 1500w in December... I just hope the sub doesn't overpower my speakers

    There are advantages to both. If you get the Infinity, it will help keep things balanced as the rear will be the same ohms. The JL Audio can be cleaner, and may help fill the sound better. You should call us for a personalized recommendation: 800.315.0030--Crutchfield

    Even premium factory speakers that come with the upgraded systems are crap compared to aftermarket. They may have just a slight bigger magnet, handle more power, and don't dry rot after a few years, but are still bottom of the barrel compared to what those companies that include the speakers with a premium sytem, offer on the aftermarket.

    I'm not sure how people can't hear the difference. The JL's have much more depth as if you set the EQ from "flat" to "rock/blues".

    The sound of the front is a lot better on my X-Fi Xtreme Music soundcard and Logitech X-540 speakers. Keep in mind the camera was positioned in the rear seat, an arm's reach from those stock rear speakers. The fronts were a good 3x further away yet I could hear the difference. In reality, one would need not hear anything to know it will be better, just read that stock was replaced with JL Audio. Enough said.

    you will always get a better sound from the fronts b/c the door is larger and the speakers have more volume to move air. A better test would have been aftermarket speakers in the rear and stock in front.
