Dennis Quaid did an incredible job with the voice. I just hope he managed to pull off the twinkle in his eye too, because that's more Reagan than the cadence and sound.
Reagan had such a unique presence there is a fine line between evoking a persona, and simply doing a caricature. From what I've seen Dennis Quaid did a fine job, except I wish he'd turned the head movements back about 10%. Ronnie certainly wasn't a statue when he spoke, but he wasn't a bobblehead the way impressionists like to portray him.

Dennis Quaid does a great portrayal of Reagan!
Not many may remember, but Dennis Quaid played Bill Clinton in the 2010 movie "The Special Relationship" which was about the relationship between Tony Blair and Bill Clinton. Now he gets to play Ronald Reagan. Dennis Quaid definitely has range.

When I read the cast I scoffed at Quaid as Reagan. Then I watched this trailer and was blown away. Tear down this wall didn't sound like Reagan, but everything else sure did. Uncanny.

I was an extra in a few scenes 🎥🎬
I was a bar tender and server at the Copa Cabana in 1941 & 1943, hopefully I’ll get a few seconds of screen time!
Also, I was a photographer during the scene where he gives a speech just before going outside and getting shot in 1981.
They filmed the movie in 2020 with a lot of it shot in Guthrie, OK at a giant, creepy, old Masonic lodge. They had to shut down filming at least once when some of the crew got Covid.
We had to come up and get Covid tested 😷 2 days prior to anytime we came on set for wardrobe fitting or filming scenes. It was quite a hassle but there were plenty of other extras who drove much farther than I did.
As to why it was delayed for 4 years, idk 🤷🏼♂️ maybe riding the wave of an election year and hoping the nostalgia brings people to the box office?
Either way, it was a really cool experience and I’m excited to see the film! 🙌🏼

This was filmed 4 years ago. That's never a good sign, but you never know until you actually see the film.
Hollywood didn't want to fund a Reagan movie. They had to line up independent funding and the actors took lower than usual salaries for what will turn out to be a big movie.

There is usually a reason films don't get released, and politics, no matter what fox news tells you, is irrelevant. They only care about making money and if this was thought to be a hit, hit would have been out sooner.
It seems 3 other studios canceled it. That said, don't put the cart before the horse.
covid was also a factor. It was originally set for release about that time. Then they had distribution challenges and lots of re-edits. But the final product is worth it. And will hit the screen right before election time--when a whole generation needs to be reminded of who we really were. And who we can be again.

The problem here, I fear, is that they're trying to do Reagan's ENTIRE life. These cradle-to-grave bio pics rarely work week because there's just not enough time. It probably would have made more sense to focus on a specific part of his life. We'll see.
Not to mention , dialogue sounds hokey and contrived , as if reagan at that time knew these are going to be critical moments of life !

@@rehanatabassum532 In a way, Reagan did believe that. After the assassination attempt in '81, Reagan wrote in his diary, "Whatever happens now...I owe my life to God." If you read Paul Kengor's God and Ronald Reagan (which this movie used as inspiration), you'll see that Reagan really did believe he was spared for a Divine Plan. That God must have saved Reagan for these crucial times and to make a huge impact on the world, but there are instances in his life when it was clear he wanted to "save the world". I understand your argument though. I'm just offering some information that might help the dialogue make a bit more sense why it may be that way!

Correct they filmed all thru Covid in 2020, we had to get tested every 3 days and wear face masks in between shots

I am/was/always will be a huge Reagan supporter (and proud to have voted for him). I hope the movie shows what I call "the last good Democrats" as it was Tip O'Neill and Les Aspin who lead Congress to give him the money for "Star Wars" (Strategic Defense Initiative) which is what let him "start the war without a shot". With the money and Star Wars the USSR/Soviety Union KNEW they could not compete. They had to surrender to the fact that we had technology that would make their best weapons (ICBMs) useless. This was an era when Reagan "The Great Communicator" and those few powerful Dems worked across the aisle for a common good. The left/Democrats have gone off the rails, the term "compromise" has been redefined to mean weak as opposed to mutual benefit win- the likes of Schumer, Pelosi, Waters, Obama & Biden do not even comprehend.
*Kudos to Dennis Quaid - a patriot and great actor. Reagan is a tough character to play, the trailer looks like he rocked it!

From what I can see from this trailer, "historical inaccuracies" will be an understatement. This is going to be pure, right wing propaganda, outright lies and lies of omission. Let's see how the film deals with Iran-Contra, or even IF it deals with it at all. That will tell us all we need to know.

1:27 - Reagan wasn't some C actor. People of the day, did generally know who he was. As referenced by Doc Brown's famous line: "Ronald Reagan, the actor?!"
Nobody knew who he was really, that was in Back to the Future because Reagan was already President at that time and everybody learned that he was an actor before that.

Yes, you are right. People did know who Ronald Reagan was by the time he was running for governor of California. I have heard some make the comparison that he would be like Josh Duhamel today. But this was not made up just for the sake of the movie. This actually did occur. I have heard it spun a couple of different ways in terms of dialogue, but I think that is just something that has come with time. Nonetheless, the lady they show here is a real interaction that Reagan had. When he told her that he was a famous actor, she said she played a game with her husband where he said the intitals of any famous actor and she knew who they were since she knew all of them. Reagan (I don't believe it was Nancy as it shows here), said "Well, perhaps you know me then. My initials are R.R." and then the lady said what she said here in this trailer. It was simply the lady. Not the fact that Reagan wasn't well known.
He was a B list actor, never an A list, but he was well known.

The best gift Reagan left us was not beating the USSR, although that one is definitely up there - but that he gave us the 80's, the music of this short decade would be replayed and sung for hundreds of years to come, and the spirit that sprang thereof would embody the American Dream and continue to inspire countless future generations.

I don't trust Hollyweird to give us anything close to an accurate depiction of history and I hope this movie doesn't turn into a puff piece or a hit piece. Two things this movie needs to include Reagan's optimism and his humor. The man won the Cold War without firing a shot, even after the media predicted he would lead us straight into nuclear war with the USSR. He also was willing to do whatever it took to win. Still, one of the best presidents of my lifetime.

Spoiler alert: Reagan didn't win the Cold War. America didn't win it. Everyone thought they won it, but it turns out it wasn't over just because the US decided it was. The Cold War is alive and well in 2024 and Vladimir Putin is winning it right now. He's managed to get half the people in the US to support a man for President who will lick Russia's boots if elected.
Back when Reagan and his cronies were doing a victory lap back in the late 80's, did anyone think they'd see the day when actual American citizens would proudly wear shirts that say "I'd rather be Russian than a Democrat"? Nope, the Cold War never ended. It continued even though the West stopped noticing. And now we're paying the price.
This film was shot extremely well. Great looking.

At 18 my first vote ever for President in 1980. By 1984 I was tank platoon leader on the East German border. We LOVED him and knew he LOVED us, and the USA! Sorry you younger guys missed this golden age.

I hope this comes out to be good. I am older and I remember Ronald Reagan deeply and I don’t think anybody can really act and try to be him.

I don’t think that it can be copied or even imitated.

Yes, the choice music is a bit distracting and off; but Dennis Quaid lands the role of Reagan and makes this film magical on the big screen. I’m looking forward to seeing this film as it appears the film weaves Reagan’s life from his childhood and shows how it shaped him, his acting roles, Governorship and Presidency. So much to capture, but worthy of making and delivering next month! ⭐️ ⭐️ ⭐️
In the thumbnail, he looks more like a young Eddie Albert in profile. He and Reagan were friends and made a movie together called, Brother Rat (1938). He was 5 years older than Ronny. He "sort of" played him in the film, Dreamscape (which also has Dennis Quaid in it), but his hair had already gone white.

I can’t wait! I was four when Reagan got shot I remember that it was yesterday.
I was in 2nd grade. Our class wrote get well soon letters to him and were encouraged to mention other concerns. I complained that Star Wars action figures are too expensive. lol I got a personal reply. Our local paper printed it.
