Zone 3b Manitoba, my palette is pink, purple, silver and white. It was great to see Sydney again, what a lovely space she has developed! Last year drought, this April continuous snow storms and rain have been our reality! Ah well we’ll muddle along and adapt to whatever....that’s what farmers and gardeners do. Happy spring everybody 🇨🇦
You garden is beautiful, love the purple. Mexican Feather Grass while beautiful, can be INCREDIBLY invasive. I redid my front yard during the pandemic. Because we were in "lockdown" here in California, and there was not a lot of availability of plants during that time, I used what I already had. Our backyard had a TON of rocks lining a pathway. Every two years or so, I had to dig up the rocks and set them back on top of the soil along the path. I took all those rocks and moved them to the fro,nt yard and made a rock riverbed. I also made a walkway next to our driveway so that we and our friends didn't have to shimmy between the cars to get to our front door. I used some left over decking material, so I had to dig out some of the dirt. In doing so, I ended up with a mound of soil that I shaped up and smoothed out and planted it with succulents. I also had a lot (a lot) of Agapanthus, which I divided and planted along the edges of the rock riverbed. This year, I added a variety of lavender plants, some Moon Struck petunias (I am in love with them) and some Carex along the sidewalk. There is a shady spot under our tree, and I planted ferns and hostas. I have plans to add a patio for a seating area, but in the meantime, I used a RV rug and and my adirondak chairs. Its a great space to have morning coffee, and enjoy my purple and green garden
Nice to see Sydney again, Linda. She’s a lovely young woman. Her new garden just flows so nicely into what was there. The boulders are wonderful in that space and her edging is very unusual. I would like to know more about that. My color palette is similar…purples, white, and pink with little splashes of pale yellow in the center of a lavender columbine and some violas….only soft pastel yellow, not school bus yellow. I enjoy a relaxing calm look. Kudos to Stewart for a great filming job in that nasty wind.
I have no color palette. Lol I love all the colors and use them all! :) I am more of a plant collector than a landscape type person. I love my gardens and that's what counts. :)
Sydney has a gorgeous garden! I like lots of many different colors, textures & evergreen shrubs & perennials. My garden looks good all year long because of these evergreens. I am striving to have things blooming throughout the year. I repeat colors & textures for unity, movement & interest.
It's the boulders for me ...love the way Sydney and her hubby placed them on the edge of the plant bed! Their cottage style home is the perfect backdrop for her pretty purple flowers and artsy choices of various plants!.... so much great gardening info too!! Sydney's home and garden is a favorite by far!!
Since seeing the wonderful segment on Sidney's home and her Native American Art, I have seen different pieces here and there and on television. When I see them I am reminded of Sydney and wonder if she would like that particular piece, especially if it contains pink! I had never noticed how the pink really makes every thing pop in a painting. I really your channel Linda!!
Greetings, Linda and Sydney. You two make a great duo. So enjoy your joint efforts. We are Zone 10b and our favorite perennial color combo is yellow and orange/burnt, orange/rust-- lantana, kalanchoe, mums, calla lilies, canna lilies, etc. Of course, our zone is pretty much spring and summer 12 months out of the year so we can enjoy the colors for a long period of time.
Artemisian commonly known as wormwood ! for fevers and inflammation. Always interested me ! Wormwood is a herb used in the hallusonatic absinthe. annd banned in parts of the world ! There is the old absenthe museum in New Orleans !! This is why I love learning about plants and esp.herbs !!
This was FABULOUS!! I woke up early to find that my hubby was already up and gone...having had a belt on the riding mower fall off yesterday as he started to mow at the house we are moving to, he had loaded the mower and was waiting to have it fixed! He takes care of the grass, and I take care of the flowers....we make a great team, LOL!! Oh my goodness, I LOVE what Sydney has done in the front! You girls make quite a "team" too! Now, you will have to show us the backyard again this summer! My mind is just swirling with great tips and ideas for new gardens at the family home we are moving to. Speaking of that, we are moving next Thursday! The reno has been amazing, however, we will be moving in without our kitchen cabinets, but, hey, as long as I have my coffee maker, a fridge, microwave, and some really GOOD restaurants, I'm good!! By mid-June, we should be all set!! What a GREAT way to start my day! Thanks, Linda, Sydney, and Stewart for a wonderful watch! Much love and blessings to you all!
Looks great Sydney. Love the rocks and steel edging, keeping everything neat. Wise and interesting choice of plants. When they fill out it will look fabulous. Love from England 😁👏
Hi Linda, Stewart, Sydney, Tommy and furry family! Thanks for letting us invade your space yet again, Sydney! your garden is looking good and I hope you'll share with us when it's all settled and grown in-- Let us know how it's going! I ( and I think a lot of us here) love learning from others, and can identify that we like certain peoples aesthetic -- it's nice to be able to see the thought process behind the decisions made that result in your beautiful spaces, Sydney! Thank you Linda and Stewart as always for bringing us along!
Awesome garden Sydney. Most impactful comment is when you said "be honest with yourself." Very good advice. It is so easy to get caught up in the loveliness of the plant nursery and all the eye candy, but ....... I know this from first hand experience. I garden in Southeast Florida, zone 10a.
Zone 7a in Northern Utah so drought is a constant for us. I received my book yesterday and it is absolutely beautiful! I love the way you write, I was completely swept up in it right away. Great job!👏🏻👏🏻👏🏻
Beautiful garden and it will be fun to see how it matures. My color palette is grey foliage, blue flowers and in fully shaded areas I also incorporate some chartreuse foliage to brighten the space .
Sydney, I love what you did in your front yard . Everything looks great now and will look beautiful as everything grows and fill in. I really love the placement of the large stones worked into your landscaping as they tie into the stone on your home. . Thanks for sharing this with us Linda.
I love everything about this transformation. The placement and the design is perfection. Seriously, you can sense and see a lot of thought went into this garden. Just love it. Thank you both for sharing.
Love the curves of your garden and the boulders. So impressive, Sydney. The colors you chose are lovely and will be cool for the summer. Thank you for sharing you garden and tips for drought tolerant plants.
I absolutely LOVE my Society Garlic plants! I have many in my pollinator garden (Zone 8a). They are super tough and the purple blooms are a hummingbird fav!
I have oodles of Walkers Low. I keep dividing it in spring, cutting it back when it starts sending out new growth after flowering around late June. Deer wont eat it. Bees love it. I like the rocks on the edge of the bed. I also use tons of geranium Rozanne here in 6b.
Hiya Linda & Sydney, my taste is soft pastel colours in pinks, purples, cream, light green flora, different shapes interesting foliage, soft & whispy. Not a fan of bright flora ex orange. Thankyou , take care. Ontario Canada 🐝🇨🇦
Beautiful garden! Great choices! I garden in 6b. Cat’s Pajamas Nepeta is my favorite Nepeta. Has a bit of darker blue hue. I love reds(really dark purple foliage), blues and silver together!
Hi guys! Sweet wormwood is an antibacterial, anti-parasitic, and some people use it as a replacement for Hydrochloquine and even Ivermectin, as they can be very expensive. Love both your gardens ❤
Leslie, Yukon, Oklahoma, Zone 7. Cat’s Pajamas is a wonderful nepeta. Wish I knew how to post a picture in the comments. Amazing blue blooms from top to bottom of the plant. They stay small. Mine are maybe 12 inches tall & wide. As Sydney says they are a pollinator magnet! I’ve never had any pest or disease problem. I wish I knew how to post a picture in the comments. They bloom early & are a show stopper. One of my favorite perennial plants!
I just unpacked my book! Oh Linda, it's a work of art! My gardening hat is off to you and Stewart, and today will be spent enjoying, dreaming and spending the day in your elegant & edible garden! 🌿💚🌿
Wonderful results Sydney! Love the coordination of your colors with your home! To answer your question, I'm an orange lover, as I live in a mingled brick home - shades of terracotta brick. I accent with chartreuse green. Love the video! Thank you Linda and Stewart! 🌿
A silly fantasy. I wish that I could shrink the two of you, just for an hour, and watch you explore the lovely gardens that you create. Tiny Linda! Tiny Sydney! 🥰
Very much enjoyed the visit to this garden. I have also become more aware of drought tolerant and native plants. 7a New York. Some of the ones in Sydney’s garden are also in mine. Smart choice to have less to do in the front yard so you can concentrate on what you see more and probably are more likely to be in. I.e.the backyard. I think sydney will really appreciate the columbine. They can get quite large and make lots of babies that you can move around. Well done!!!
Oh! Also, regarding dandelion, take the little yellow flowers, brew them like a chamomile tea, with just a drop of honey. No pesticides in my yard, and only do this if yours is the same! I absolutely adore you,Linda!🥰😊😊❤️
Another silver leaved Salvia that would look great and can be used for culinary purposes is Salvia officinalis ‘Bergaarten’. It has wider leaves than the non cultivar type and forms a beautiful mound. I am so happy that you mentioned the importance of not burying the root flare of a tree with mulch or soil for that matter. It suffocates the tree and causes a slow death. I don’t know why the volcano style of tree planting/mulching got started but it is very detrimental to trees. If anyone is interested, they can look up the science and work by Dr. Alex Shigo. Less turf, more plants is my motto! Creates a more complex ecological system. Lovely garden, Sydney!!
9b, Awesome boulders Sydney. My color pallet is purple and orange in one garden room, pink and yellow in the other. Thanks for the plant list here Linda!
This video title made me so excited! I garden in the Phoenix, AZ area 🔥 😵 zone 9B and my garden is almost entirely purple and silver, as well as heat/drought tolerant! Some of my faves that I highly recommend are: Moss verbena Sandpaper Verbena Silverdust Dusty Miller Variegated Society garlic Big Blue salvia farinacea Blackfoot Daisy Bigelow’s purple aster Purple Heart tradescantia Dichondra silver falls Powis Castle artemesia Silver bush morning glory Butterfly blue scabiosa Purple gleam California poppy Annual larkspur that reseeds everywhere And less drought tolerant but certainly fabulous with all of this are my Violet’s Pride and Heirloom roses 💜
@@chelseajones4141 they so are awesome! Perennial here too, so they get massive and I have endless amounts of bouquet filler which might be the best part 😍
I always used wormwood in my dried flower bouquets. Now a days wormwood is found in the ingredients of the muscle rub called ABORBINE JR. By the way I wear Absorbine Jr as a bug repellant. Works extremely well in our buggy by the river landscape.
Years ago I planted several catmint in my street garden I had every neighbor cat and stray doing Rollie’s In my garden I pulled them all out and just Have one In the Backyard for my Own cat 🐱
I have a similar color palette, but different perennials for the same reason, because it’s cooling. It’s still super windy and no rain, so lots of hand watering. Cedar mulch is my absolute favorite. We get bags of it delivered to our gas stations and it’s really cheap. 8a Central Texas
The wormwood leaves are different .. not as solid … I pulled it as it got too large . I love the purple theme but my tastes change there BUT I especially love ❤when different greens of the leaves of shrubs and plants contrast with Each other ! NOW I am worried since we just installed an island bed 😢,,, gulp. I would NOT do well with your winds there I have such dry skin . What would you recommend regarding natural elements like stone and boulders if your house is an aluminum sided 1950s post war colonial ? I planted that large type of lambs ear it got crazy freaky large ! so I pulled it . My garden is mostly native drought tolerant . This year I am not mixing in my annuals so I don’t have to water every place. I am keeping the water loving annuals in one location .
Love the color palette. 7a east coast with wet springs and hot humid summers but still don't want to plantings that have heavy water requirements. Finished your book, yesterday, and loved it.
Love the bed and planting choices! I, too, love buying plants from ACE Hardware (in the Dallas area-zone 8A). They even carry some Red Dirt brand of plants that Linda mentioned in a previous video that are grown in OK!
This may have been mentioned but the Columbine will seed everywhere unless you deadhead quickly. I love Columbine so I’m cool with it. Save the seeds for friends or more purposeful placement. You’ll know they’re ready when they sound like miracas with a lil shake. Beautiful, beautiful landscape. Well done.
Sydney, I love, love, love your garden, especially the integration of boulders! Nice job. I’m in zone 11b/12a and my garden colors are pinks, oranges and greens…sort of. I’m still working on it. I would like to add more shades of green, such as blue greens and grey greens. My horticultural zone seems stubbornly resolved in mid-tone greens. Like I said, still working on it. Gardening is one big happy experiment.
Eva, The nepeta is a risk. When I bought it it said nepeta “hybrid.” Which is interesting to me but early on in the season I was having a hard time finding any type of nepeta so I went with this one. I have a large variety that is existing in the beds by the house. It was there when we purchased our home so I’m not sure exactly what kind but I think it is six hills. Nepeta does so well for me that I trim it regularly so regardless of he variety it will be kept in check!
Great garden design Sydney. I love your boulders and your plant choices. I’ve never considered going with a plant color theme. Duh! But I will now. I too am a lover of Baby Gem Boxwoods. I potted 2 in containers for my porch, last weekend. I’m in zone 8A North Texas. -Robin
Your garden looks so beautiful Sydney! From the color palette, plant choices and textures, just beautiful! 😍 I also love your planters on your porch and would love to know where they are from? Thanks so much for sharing!! This was definitely a treat!! ❤
Beautimous! I love what Sidney has done! I LOVE catmint, and it just gets bigger every year, it also gets huge in pots and does very well. I put it in half wine barrel planters and it draws bees all season. That and Russian Sage rule my gardens and keep me and the bees in purple beauty all summer long. 💜💜. Thanks for this wonderful tour! 👍
Zone 7b Abq NM my color pallette is color i love hot colors but also i think hot colors are fitting in my zone and climate and southwestern stucco home.
Thank you for sharing, what a lovely garden. My color palate has always been changeable through the season blue for Spring, forgetmenots and Spanish bluebells, after that orange caléndula and orange/yellow day lillies etc. Part of the garden was later dedicated to my obsession for small flowering shrubs and perrenials rather than color.
Also....still waiting for my book! I'm worse than a kid at Christmas, running to the post office daily, to see if it's arrived! 😊 So excited and anticipating it's arrival!
Well what an amazing transformation! Love the curves of your bed & those boulders😍😍😍. 7B Alabama here & we have gotten so much rain, wish I could send some your way. Beautiful garden Sydney!❤️
Oooh,Linda and Sydney,I totally agree about grass,my yard looks like little house on the prairie, the dandelion crop,it serves the bees. This is important, more so than a pretty space, although a lawn full of gorgeous yellow flowers is heaven
Hello Linda and Sydney Watched this again. So beautiful. Respects to you Linda but now Sydney has moved i think boulders to compliment the new house stone would be fabulous in the front garden😘😘
Lovely, front yard choice of plants! Perfect for the house! Sydney did a great job! I personally love the large rocks in a garden! Wouldn’t those concrete balls look wonderful in that garden?
I’m in NC zone 8a, sandy soil. My color palette changes in different pockets of my yard. I have a section in the backyard that’s warm colors like reds, oranges and yellows. Then when you walk around the exterior garage it’s all different shades and textures of just green. The front and sides of the yard are mostly softer, cool colors like blues, purples and pinks. I’m definitely partial to cooler colors, but I think there’s always space for a bright and warm pop of color somewhere. It’s hard to blend the two pallets, but with the right natural barriers and curves it’s very possible and I love it 🙂
And of course, the most drought-resistant of all, boulders! :) love them.
Cottage pastels zone 7b. However, during the Christmas and the Kentucky Derby seasons, I do slam the RED. 🌺🌸⚘🌹
We need a follow up when it fills in a bit. I love it. These are the plants I have chosen also. My new bed goes in next week. 🌾
Sydney did a great job with her garden. It's shape, rocks and plantings look beautiful. I love seeing both her gardens and home!

I’ve found that Marvin’s has beautiful garden centers with a nice variety of plants.
That’s so sweet that Linda got down there and pulled that mulch back from that tree! That’s a friend.
Linda, I aspire to be such a classy dressed gardener as you are. 🤩😎
Love the edging and boulder design. Also, lambs ear next to rock is one of my favorite combos! Beautiful! Can’t wait to see it evolve!
I agree! When the lamb’s ear grows over the rocks it’s a favorite combo of mine! Two totally different colors and textures!
Stunning garden Sydney. I also love purples and blues in the garden. Thank you for sharing. 🙂

My plant palette is colors of the rainbow 🌈 and beyond. Linda, I like island beds. The more beds I have the better hehe 🙃 I’m zone 9a
I have a similar color palette, but different perennials for the same reason, because it’s cooling. It’s still super windy and no rain, so lots of hand watering. Cedar mulch is my absolute favorite. We get bags of it delivered to our gas stations and it’s really cheap. 8a Central Texas
The wormwood leaves are different .. not as solid … I pulled it as it got too large .
I love the purple theme but my tastes change there
BUT I especially love ❤when different greens of the leaves of shrubs and plants contrast with Each other !
Besides green foliage my color pallet is yellows reds and whites with a few lite blues.
Love the color palette. 7a east coast with wet springs and hot humid summers but still don't want to plantings that have heavy water requirements. Finished your book, yesterday, and loved it.
I love the garden layout and the colours of purple as well as silver and green works for me.
Bermuda and zoysia does well for zone 7b in NC
Enjoy all of your videos. Great team
Well done.
Same here! Scatter to their heart’s content
It’s an experiment and can be changed accordingly! That’s the beauty of it!
The nepeta looks just exactly like my Cat's Pajamas variety.
Eva,
The nepeta is a risk.
-Robin
Answer of the day: I've decided to go jewel tones with my annuals, as much as possible, in my Middle TN, Zone 7a gardens.
What a charming neighborhood!
looks beautiful 😍
Well what an amazing transformation! Love the curves of your bed & those boulders😍😍😍. 7B Alabama here & we have gotten so much rain, wish I could send some your way. Beautiful garden Sydney!❤️
Oooh,Linda and Sydney,I totally agree about grass,my yard looks like little house on the prairie, the dandelion crop,it serves the bees.
This is important, more so than a pretty space, although a lawn full of gorgeous yellow flowers is heaven
Hello Linda and Sydney
Watched this again. So beautiful. Respects to you Linda but now Sydney has moved i think boulders to compliment the new house stone would be fabulous in the front garden😘😘
Great garden Sydney, tfs!
Lovely, front yard choice of plants! Perfect for the house! Sydney did a great job! I personally love the large rocks in a garden! Wouldn’t those concrete balls look wonderful in that garden?
I’ve been wanting those for both the front and back 🤭 having a hard time finding them local as shipping would cost a fortunate.
