I used to live right next to the West of England line just a few miles west of Andover station when I was a kid. I remember seeing the MOD train taking vehicles to and from the depot at Ludgershall. I think it was a daily run, usually in the morning. Sometimes I'd walk up a public right of way that led to the Ludgershall branch to watch the train go past (the speed limit on the Ludgershall branch was much lower than on the main line so you got a better look at the train). I can also remember steam hauled specials occasionally running on the Ludgershall branch in the 80's. Great memories. It's a shame the branch line doesn't see much use these days.
Yep, likewise, i used to live by the line and my memories are as you describe 😃 If you actually look at the rail schedule there are actually movements in the timetable most weekdays from Bicester MOD or Warminster MOD to Ludgershall MOD (and back) but they never actually activate and don’t run. I got excited last week as there was one due to run from Kinerton MOD and the loco was scheduled from Eastleigh Yard on a round trip but for reasons unknown never left which was a big shame! My aim is now to capture any last movements on the line from different places along it to create a bit of a history before it undoubtedly closes. Thanks for taking the time to comment, there’s a couple more videos on my channel which include movements on this line at Andover- the best one with a load of tanks to Estonia has actually got hardly any views - check it out if you get time, thank again
Nice video I’m sure that line there used to be controlled by a ground frame in front of the static camera about 8 levers do you know when did it got taken out
Hi, unfortunately only by keeping a regular watch on RealTimeTrains website and seeing if any of the services to Ludgershall actually ‘activate’. Also occasionally hear via rail industry contacts. Ludgershall movements are sadly increasingly rare. Thank you for taking the time to watch the video
Like the video very much .Take care

Did this every day for 18 years, goods “ freight “ and passenger shunting. Stoke Gifford and Penzance.
Thanks, another interesting watch 👍
