This was great to see. I live in Ludgershall and family have been here for over 100 years. I remember playing at the station area before the housing was built when I was about 12, over 45 years ago. I fantastic opportunity to see this. Thank you
Great video. I remember this day well. It was a good railtour and I was certainly glad to have been on this. Certainly will not be forgetting this day anytime soon
Thanks for a really interesting video ! I first heard about this line when I was working for part of the MoD back in the early 2000's - I would love to have joined this railtour ! 😎
Appreciate you taking time to watch 😃. I struggled with wanting to join the railtour versus capture it from the ‘outside’ for historical reference. I think I made the right choice as it was a baking hot day with no aircon on the train!!
My grandparents used to live in Andover and while I never got a cab ride down the branch I did get a few cab rides (crompton) in the old postal train that used to shunt and leave in the evenings from Andover back in the late 70's/80's. Not sure when it stopped but the sidings and think the old goods shed have gone now. When they first moved there I remember the two signal boxes at each end of the station. Also the remains of the town station were still there. Happy memories.
Got a Train out of the MOD yard back in 1978 the Battalion ( 1LI ) went down to kent by train for " Urban Training" those who know........know where we went and why !

Boy was it hot on that train!
When those on the Railtour poured out onto Andover station they looked very hot and bothered, only to find the mens toilets were closed! 😱
Was on this Railtour (and maybe the last tour to do Platform 0 back in the 90's?). Excellent job in recording the events along the Ludgershall branch.
Thank you for your kind comment, I had to do a lot of running to catch it in different places 😃. Hope you enjoyed your day on the tour 👍🏻
Spent a few days there unloading ammo was stationed at larkhill wasn’t quick enough hiding when they came looking for volunteers
To a non army guy like myself, unloading ammo off trains sounds pretty cool 🤣😎 Thank you for watching and taking the time to comment 👍🏻👍🏻
Excellent. Only remaining part of the MSWJR. I was lucky enough to visit on a DEMU railtour a few years back.
Isn't there another bit at Lechlade, near the A419 to Cirencester?
The swindon and Cricklade railway are on old MSWJR track bed
I think its great they do tours on these little used fright lines,
They scare me!
Great video and well captured thank you.
wow, used to regularly cabride the ludgershall line in a crompton in the 80s!

I think the only thing we missed was the driver having his breakfast ! Great video.

Great research and captures. thank you
Nice to see a 69 in service.
Wow. Could I have joined this tour in Salisbury?
Don’t think so on this occasion
Great video, thanks!

Only military railway I ever got to play on was Lydd's narrow gauge back in the eighties lol
Nice video 👍
The MOD should use it more
Should have kept going down through Catford, Fullerton Junction and on to Brighton….
Now do something similar at Shoeburyness
As you visited a military track and so, was there any restrictions for foreigners to join the train?
Hi, no, it was open to all via the Railtour company which was UK Railtours on this occasion
You don't get off the train and theres nothing much left there and nothing sensitive so there wouldn't be an issue
