I don’t think you are making a Mistake The fish you already have in the Cichlid Tank most likely will stand their ground and the Veja Will just mind it’s own business since it’s the only Veja in the tank most likely

Pretty cool the fact that you can actually order a particular species of fish. In all my years of keeping fish and having aquariums, never had that luxury.
What's your relationship with your local fish shops? If you're a regular or made buddies with the owner/managers, they'll usually hook you up I've found.
Between 7:10 and 7:20 you capture your carpintas shifting into dominance/ breeding colors for to ward off the salvini. The speed of the color change is insane. I don't know if you really noticed that but it was cool to see. I have 10 Rio Hondo carpintas that are young and look forward to finding the most chill one of the group.

I haven’t had cichlids since I was a kid but I still intend to get back into them, so I watch your videos to keep me inspired. I built a paludarium lately that required plants from fish world.

Vieja’s are so beautiful and I admire Ben’s each time I see it because it looks like the one I used to have. Mine had such an aggressive personality though and it chased and bit at everyone in my 170 gal except my larger Oscar. Eventually I made the tough decision to rehome him. I really wished mine was mellow like Ben’s but NOPE! 😢
His is so pretty. Tough story about your vieja though. You just can never tell until you try it out. I'm hoping the tank size will help. Thanks for sharing your experience!

My electric blue texas is pushin 12 inches and salvinis very easy to identify the black spot on the gill plate is 100% accurate identification of a female
@@CichlidCharmer depends on the strain of fish on what size it will get up too genetics play a role in fish as well f1 strains generally get the biggest from my experience.
This is a sick tank! I just added an Electric Blue Texas in with my Red Spot Severum and Ropefish. So far so good, but we'll see if he keeps his temperment as he grows...
Half the fish in that tank shouldn’t work but like u said a 10 foot versus a 6 foot 125 is a huge difference. I’ve had one in the past for 7 years and honestly the Synspilum was very peaceful and was the tank boss/ Ref. Such an underrated fish. Great fish one i regret losing to a power outage while i was on vacation. Did great as a solo Vieja like Ben said.
I had a pair about 35 yrs ago. Lucked out that the last 2 in the shop turned out male and female...and compatible. Just the 2 of them in a 200 gallon producing spawn after spawn of little Queatzal cichlids.
I have a powder blue socolofi that's a real bastard. He's killed quite a few of my fish over the years. Sometimes he'll randomly target a fish that he's lived with for a long time and just take him out for seemingly no reason at all. I don't understand him. He's nice looking, but I probably won't get another one of him after he's gone.
That tank is going to be stunning when they get bigger!! I've kinda gone the overstocked route in my American tank and it seems to be working so far 🤞🤞🤞 I have 5 Vieja Zonatus in the tank, plus 2 Bocourti, 6 Green Terrors (will be cut down in numbers as they pair off) 2 x large Oscars, 2x small Oscars (still growing), a pair of Tomocichla (temporarily) 4 x Marbled Fenestratus (growing out atm). So far the only aggression has been a bit of chasing by 2 of the Zonatus that have paired off in one corner of the tank. They all come and greet me in the morning for feed time and are pretty chill the rest of the time. The 3 big Zonatus males seem to be the peacekeepers of the tank and bust up any skirmishes that happen. Given their size I wouldn't argue back either 🤣🤣🤣
I have a bunch of vieja, they constantly fight for dominance. I got rid of my Bifasciata because it constantly got beat up, but kept fighting. My tank is much calmer now with Fenestratus, argentia, zonata, synipsilum, jag, true parrott, red terror

My severum journey has been bad thus far. My green severum decided to chase my tetras and bala shark last night. They went in to a different tank while I figure him out. They have all been in the tank together since the start
some people might say bad things about them . I have six of the redhead Vieja synspilum and three of the black belt Vieja. Mine are very peaceful. For the last year and a half.

I just got a 7"-8" electric blue Texas Cichlid about 3 weeks ago at Aqua World in Pittsburgh. when i first put him in the tank with my 7"-8" Red Shoulder Severum, The Severum instantly tried to kill the Texas! The Texas wanted nothing at all with that Severum. The severum darted super fast at the Texas repeatedly like every 4 seconds, it was BAD So, i immediately took out the Severum. So, I now have the Electric Blue Texas all by itself except a golden nugget pleco, 4 cory cats and 2 Otocinclus catfish in a 90 gallon tank.

I just recently added a 3”-4” Vieja Synspilum to my 125g. At first he was shy. I’ve had him just going on 1 month. He doesn’t bother any of the other fish but my 4” Starry Night Cichlid doesn’t like him. Those 2 are always going at it. I also have a 4-5” Rose Breasted Chanchito and he goes after all the smaller fish. In my tank I have Jack Dempsey 7” Bumblebee Oscar 7” Black Tiger Oscar 5” Chocolate Cichlid 7” Turquoise Green Severum 7” Rose Breasted Chanchito 4” Gold Saum 4” Starry Night Cichlid 4” Cheek Spot Cichlid 4” Vieja Synspilum 4” Mesoheros Ornatus 3” Bala Shark 7” Uaru 5” Panda Uaru 4”
David, You know I am going to comment on this since I have a few of the fish you showed. The Green Terror is a gold Saum and I have one. They are a bit of slow growers so be prepared for that. They won’t get that big maybe 6 to 8 inches at max. Mine is about 5 inches or so now and he can be aggressive. He has only locked lips with my female JD and she put him in his spot. The JD does look like a female but it might be a little hard to tell at the age right now. If the JD is a female she will get around 6 to 7 inches. Mine is full grown and she is about 6 in to 7 in. The Salvini is most likely a female with all that yellow. I have one and mine is a he and he is very pretty with all the reds and blues and just colors all around. So far the Salvini hasn’t been that aggressive and he is approaching 4 inches. The severum you have is going to grow slow. Severums are really slow growers and they are a tall fish. Kind of like a discus. They need a mix of vegetables to grow in their diet. They are plant eaters and I made that mistake when I had him in my 55 gal planted tank and my green severum ate and destroyed my plants lol. They won’t get 10 to 12 inches in captivity. Maybe more like 8 inches or so. They get thick. My two Severums I have which is a green one and a gold spotted one are little water puppies. They come up to the glass and follow you around. The chocolate cichlid I don’t think will get 10 to 12 inches. They do get big but I don’t think Ben’s chocolate is that big. The chocolates are very slow growers so have patience with them but they get cuter as they get bigger. I have a female so mine is smaller but I don’t think she is done growing. I have had her for over a year. Love the fish and video and tank. I only dream of ever getting a tank this big.

We had a Vieja bifasciata (when they were still Theraps after been called Cichlasoma for a long time). I can explain it in one sentence. My wife called him Hannibal (Lecter). No survivors.

Wow, your new guy will be stunning, no you're not making a mistake, who knows how these fish turn out, they all change so much, look at my Maingano "ManMan" who went from Mr. Mellow and me hand feeding him to being the biggest A-hole I ever have had, killed 5 fish. I have no idea what to do with him, leave him in a 45gal by himself or find someone who wants an unholy terror. Wish I could super beam you my male Jack Dempsy he is kind of a shy guy that ManMan beat to a pulp so now he is in my State Penn rearranging every speck of substrate and decor. Had no idea I have one that I've grown that's about the size of my oscar now, he's mellow(at the moment) soon I'll have too up grade to a 250 I'm presently have a overstock 125 gal.(A very controversial tank)
@@CichlidCharmer it’s an acrylic box with slashes that let water move through, the salt water folks use it a lot, it lets new fish be in a tank without getting attacked. Most are DIY though, haven’t seen them sold
Mines about 9 inches and a jerk. He doesn’t really do any damage to the others though just glides through the tank like a boss pushing others out of his way.
First experience I put a Red Devil Cichlid In my Cichlid Tank and that did not do good took out a couple fish and was able to take out my Armored Pleco somehow
If you stick an almost grown Malibu puffer…….inside any of your tanks, it will be total Puffer GTA” this fish will kill everything in your aquarium. One bite from its beak can take chunks of your hand.
I have some they are amazing the males can be quiet massive and very aggressive my female is not aggressive at all I had to get rid of two black belt vieja they were brutal I have a red head like Ben , I also have a regani vieja which is going to be stunning and two marbled viejas they are babies,Texas cichlids can be a real problem and my 240 is actually dominated by Pac-Man my gold severum I have a starry night , two frontosa , two Oscar’s , jack Dempsey,a red severum ,two red shoulder severum , and a green severum and a flagfin tetra , and my regani vieja.
So I took the black belt to uncle bills pet store believing that the 165 gallon tank I had it in was too small because i hadn’t received my 240 gallon tank yet but I was wrong uncle bills put the fish in their 400 gallon tank and the fish was going after fish twice and three times its size I believe you could keep them with dovi , jaguar , and Red Devils
I had one and he was a stone cold killer. He killed six loaches at first that’s when I got angry, took him out and threw him in the Koi pond outside. When winter was over. I noticed there was more koi he killed them and ate them. She was about 14 inches with hump on his head. I was so furious. A gentleman in Florida offered to buy him and he would pay to ship them over there. He was the most beautiful fish I have ever had the colors on him or remarkable. He was a killer though, so I shipped them off to Florida.

Not all viejas are aggressive they are different subspecies you just have to do your research

You are correct Sparkle is a gold Saum but in my experience gold saums only get to 8-10 inchs.

That's a great question. I have reinforcement where needed. I have enough joists where this tank is to support 6500 lbs.
@CichlidCharmer If it would be possible, I would like to have further conversation with you on this subject. I will be reinforcing my floor for my 8' 240 gal tank and then my two 4' 110 gal tanks, and I am just curious about a few things. Mike

Wow, your new guy will be stunning, no you're not making a mistake, who knows how these fish turn out, they all change so much, look at my Maingano "ManMan" who went from Mr. Mellow and me hand feeding him to being the biggest A-hole I ever have had, killed 5 fish. I have no idea what to do with him, leave him in a 45gal by himself or find someone who wants an unholy terror. Wish I could super beam you my male Jack Dempsy he is kind of a shy guy that ManMan beat to a pulp so now he is in my State Penn rearranging every speck of substrate and decor. Isn't that great had Ben give you his advice and show us his wonderful fish how cool. Thanks yet again for some great advice and another look at your awesome fish!

Had no idea I have one that I've grown that's about the size of my oscar now, he's mellow(at the moment) soon I'll have too up grade to a 250 I'm presently have a overstock 125 gal.(A very controversial tank)
Do you have an acclimation box?
Not even sure what that is, so probably not.
@@CichlidCharmer it’s an acrylic box with slashes that let water move through, the salt water folks use it a lot, it lets new fish be in a tank without getting attacked. Most are DIY though, haven’t seen them sold
@@Mr_Tequila_Travels Oh gotcha. I call that a penalty box lol. I use a breeder box that is all mesh except for the frame.
Mines about 9 inches and a jerk. He doesn’t really do any damage to the others though just glides through the tank like a boss pushing others out of his way.

First experience I put a Red Devil Cichlid In my Cichlid Tank and that did not do good took out a couple fish and was able to take out my Armored Pleco somehow
I had an AC kill a pleco too.

If you stick an almost grown Malibu puffer…….inside any of your tanks, it will be total Puffer GTA” this fish will kill everything in your aquarium.
One bite from its beak can take chunks of your hand.
I have some they are amazing the males can be quiet massive and very aggressive my female is not aggressive at all I had to get rid of two black belt vieja they were brutal I have a red head like Ben , I also have a regani vieja which is going to be stunning and two marbled viejas they are babies,Texas cichlids can be a real problem and my 240 is actually dominated by Pac-Man my gold severum I have a starry night , two frontosa , two Oscar’s , jack Dempsey,a red severum ,two red shoulder severum , and a green severum and a flagfin tetra , and my regani vieja.

So I took the black belt to uncle bills pet store believing that the 165 gallon tank I had it in was too small because i hadn’t received my 240 gallon tank yet but I was wrong uncle bills put the fish in their 400 gallon tank and the fish was going after fish twice and three times its size I believe you could keep them with dovi , jaguar , and Red Devils

some bottom feeders. These guys will become aggressive. Especially that salvini and carpintis you have.

I had one and he was a stone cold killer. He killed six loaches at first that’s when I got angry, took him out and threw him in the Koi pond outside. When winter was over. I noticed there was more koi he killed them and ate them. She was about 14 inches with hump on his head. I was so furious. A gentleman in Florida offered to buy him and he would pay to ship them over there. He was the most beautiful fish I have ever had the colors on him or remarkable. He was a killer though, so I shipped them off to Florida.
