I’m petrified my Senigal Buchir is going to slither out and slit my throat Dave. 😂 Hey why do you use two heaters, had to ask, didn’t want to upset you. Oh, the rocks just rinse and whack them in, you’ll be fine, surely. I fed some crimson spotted rainbows to my Africans, is that ok..? 😮 Something about us Dave’s huh… 🤔❤
I have wanted a Black Nasty for years, but never had a big tank for just one fish. Dealing with probably the meanest fish I ever have had other than that Bumble Bee was Satan-ManMan the Maingano that killed 5 fish in record time before I could rescue them, the jerk went to a Fish store. Of course, now I have a 45gal with just one lonely Salvini which hides every time someone comes up to the tank, sigh, oh well. I love watching you set up your tanks, I like to see how other's set theirs up, you know me I'm watching and going I'd put plants here and there only to watch them fade away into ghost shells of rot, plants scream when they see me coming. Thanks for the video it will be fun to watch the new ones on Tuesdays!
Man Man gets to start a new reign of terror somewhere else lol. Remember Ben Ochart's salvini? What a beauty, and wasn't hiding a lot. Lots of red. You know I need a pleco to keep the rot off those pieces of driftwood, but I don't think the nasty's would leave it alone. But the might I suppose. Thanks, Polly!
I can't wait to watch along with this one. It's a dream fish for me, and I can't home any time soon, so you've scratched that itch for me! Fish freaks united!
That's awesome. It is a dream come true for me too. Such interesting fish. I saw one acting like a bull, shaking his head and then spitting sand out at the glass where the camera was. So cool.
Well thank you very much. This one took longer than usual due to the extra time it takes to actually do the work setting the tank up. I appreciate your encouragement!
Just in case the sand gets moved enough that the rocks touch the glass. It also helps distribute the weight of the rocks. It might be necessary later, if I turned this into an mbuna tank for instance.
Great question. If I ever want the rocks lower or if it's a long term cichlid tank, they can dig pits and the crate will keep the rocks from touching the bare glass. Keep it from cracking
Looking great dave! I was pretty tempted on getting another electric blue Texas cichlid. But good luck raising the black nasty. You're starting to catch up.
If San Quinton doesn’t work out. It would make a nice Dovi tank 🤔😈just a thought. Also felt ur pain with the heaters. Just moved to an apartment and had to sell my 220. set up my first saltwater tank and of course the eheim heater didn’t fit in my overflow box 🤦🏻♂️ great filter but excessively long.
I want to know your opinion because I respect what you do! I was at a pet store & an associate told me it's not good to dump them into a net because you will irritate their slime coat but I thought it's better then dumping that nasty water into my tank ! What do you think?!
Anything that touches them can damage their slime coat, but I do often reach in and just use my hand. I've never experienced trouble either way though. Good question!
Great species, don't overfeed when they are young, they are subject to bloat. I lost a few before realizing in the early 2000's. Along with istlanum and grammodes I was never able to keep them to adulthood.
David, These little fish are so cute. I know they will get bigger and nastier when they get older. I wanted to tell you that I just picked up a Geophagus Altifrons. He is little at about 1 in to and inch and a half. I have him growing out in my 55 gal tank. He is so cute I can't wait to see those colors on him. They are a very pretty fish. I think you said that these were one of your favorites and prettiest fish you have. I could be wrong. Can't wait to see the little guy grow up. I like raising fish from babies and watching their growth and color. I can't wait for more updates on the Black Nasty's.
You have an altifrons! Yes, I think they are SO beautiful. Is there any prettier freshwater fish? Maybe, but I don't know what it is. I'm excited for you. Jason at Prime Time Aquatics just has one.
@@CichlidCharmer yep I just got one. I can’t wait till it grows up. I saw the pictures of an adult and wow they are so pretty and look so awesome. Yeah I saw Jason has one to. So between you both i decided to get one to. I picked the little guy up from my LFS. I like supporting the LFS if I can and they have the fish. The LFS stock is usually really good and healthy. I got my AC heckali from them and he is growing and becoming a stunner to.

Too I started off with one. Now I got 5 aquarium.🤦

What grade of sand is that Kleen Blast? Coarse, medium, fine...?
I think it's a medium. It's too big to blow around but way too small to be considered gravel.

It would be great -- I think you mean San Quentin. I want another severum, but probably only one and I need a red shoulder. But maybe two more lol

Why do you put egg crate down on the bottom of the tank?
