When I started the hobby, I had 3 tanks each 20 gallons. Sooner, I upgraded to 85 gallons, 65 gallons, and 5 gallons tanks (for a betta obviously). I am lucky to live closer to a wholesale aquarium market, and it's not super expensive to set up a new tank.

I have a 65, 55, 20, 15 and 5 gallon tank but all of them have small to medium fish. I appreciate monster fish but it's just easier to maintain a tank with 4 inches or less fish. I am more fond of community tanks than bare tanks. I believe our fish are happier when we emulate their natural habitat by putting aquatic plants.

Good points for sure. I have 6 tanks 1 big tank with big Cichlids. Then 2 all natural planted dirted tanks and 3 other planted tanks. And BTW I get a shower Everytime I go to feed the Cichlids as they are so excited and splash water 99% of the time when feeding so fun I love it

I prefer big fish. My Severums are so happy to see me when I walk up to my big tank. Actually all the CA/SA do that they gather up and stare at me so cute waiting for their food. So crazy to watch them eat. You will experience this when the fish get older and bigger you will love how they look at you. I so wish I could get a 450 gal tank. Your wife must love fish to. 😂 to let you get that big of a tank. Nothing beats the way the CA/SA cichlids look at you with the little fishy puppy eyes lol. You mentioned you have a chocolate cichlid. I have one to and it’s a female. They grow really slow just to let you know. I love my chocolate cichlid and how she changes colors everyday. What other fish are you looking to add to the 450 gal. Appreciate the videos and always love the content. I feed my fish a combo of extreme fish food and omega one. I mix and switch it up. I also have a planted 55 gal tank. This tank has rainbow fish and Denison barbs and Congo tetras And I am growing out my first Firemouth and AC heckali. I have never had a geophagus species and the AC heckali is so pretty even at a young age. I also have a EBA in the 55 gal tank and love him so much.

Buck has given me a taste of how they look at you. He’s so cute (he’s the true parrot). My wife does like fish, but hates the maintenance, so she’s happy to let me do it all. I have noticed that the chocolate cichlid is a slow grower so far. Do you feed some floating pellets to her? They are always angled upward to catch their food from the surface of the water. Very interesting. I’m not entirely sure what’s going in next. I need some sveni for sure. I have my panda Uaru to add, but I’m afraid he’ll be too mellow. I’d like two more of him if possible. Thank you, Jeremy. Good to hear from you as always.

AT one point I had 3 running tanks (125g, 90g & 75g). I moved and gave away a lot. I had grow tanks, hospital tanks you name it. I went all in. My wife told me I love the fish more than her, lol. Now I'm down to one remaining large oscar. Will I go before her? unknown. But she will hopefully be my last after 7 years of fish keeping. I do love it but we can't do everything in life so I did do it for awhile, now time to move on to something else. It was a great experience, I do treasure my time that I spent with all my various fresh water fish. ps Angels are beautiful but can be nasty towards other fish plus they breed a lot of babies, I know from experience. Great video, thanks! I sub'd.

I'm in love w my tiny nano fish. Biggest fish I have is a Betta who is tankboss of a tank he shares w harlequin, porkchop, snd merah rasboras and scrounging the bottom are habrosus corys, and anchor cats. My 20 long is home to triliniatus corys including 4 juveniles, ember tetras, and the centerpiece fish are a male/female pair of sunset honey gourami. I have yet another smaller tank that I was just continuing to grow plants in, I scaped it and a pair of orange dwarf crayfish are lovin' the green jungle in there.

Rehoming my iredescent sharks is heartbreaking! They are the most gentle and loving fish I own, this being said they also spook super easy and turns into a missile flying up and down right and left over and through decorations. I often say they cannot hurt you, they can harm themselves so learning how to even put your hand or siphon in the tank is a learning experience. Slow and steady let them explore you and you’ll be fine, if you whip your hand around or plunge a siphon right next or in front of, god forbid you accidentally hit them, it’s enough to stop my heart with how much they stress, and like I said can hurt themselves. I was able to sell my koi but sharks just have a bad wrap and at their size now they need special care and attention. Crossing my fingers I find that one special person! Great video and great topic! I had a teenager cry to me begging for my sharks but his tank was only a 29 gallon. My sharks wouldn’t be able to even turn around in that! Gotta be 8 foot plus! Stay happy and healthy my friend! 😊❤

i had oscar, hi fin shark (catfish) , and flower horn. the problem with big fish is their maintenance and big fish doesnt work with community set up because they eat everything they can put in their mouth and if you tried to put plants on their tank they will just nip on it and destroy it.
this is why is i am just keeping nano fish nowadays since you can apply the walstad method on nano fishes simply because its community tank (you have the main fish, the bottomfeeders and the cleaners) plus i could throw a lot of plants which can actually help with cleaning the water which means lesser water change.
big fish are cool, hardy and sometimes they come personality. but its not for everyone

Having a big tank really helps with keeping big cichlids. I can see that your large tank will be good for your Oscar so he has room to get away from the Texas cichlid. In a smaller tank the Texas cichlid may corner an Oscar. I have seen people keep Oscars with Red Devils, Texas cichlids and jaguar cichlids in very large aquariums. I have never had as large of a tank as yours so I used to keep Oscars with venustus and blue dolphin cichlids because they never set up territories and just swam together like a hungry school of fish.

I like big fish. I am into African cichlids and American cichlids. I had about 10 African cichlids. Peacocks and a couple of mbuna. They all died because I believe it was high nitrates. I am getting back into fish keeping real soon. I want big fish for my 60 gallon tank. By the way I love your contents. Thank you for all of your informations.

I've got a 4g, 9g & 17g & plan on doing a 55g. All of them have small fish because it's a waste to have a tank for only a handful of fish when you can have snails, shrimp & nano fish as a balance to the hardscape & plants. (1/3 balance for each)
Big fish are nice to look at, but I already have big dogs with their shits to manage & don't want to have to do it with larger fish. ^^
