I always appreciated this show for giving such a humanizing, introspective portrait of Holmes. I'll always love Cumberbatch but as I get older I start to see how heightened and even cartoonish they went with that depiction, even though it was wildly entertaining and brilliantly written. Elementary's Sherlock feels more like a real person.

I swear this show understands what a person that is a recovering addict is like and how it never just goes away it’s always there. And we’re always worried what if someone happens that causes us to fall off the wagon. It also shows what grief is like(in season 1) and I felt it had one of the most accurate depictions of a relapse I’ve ever seen. Idk what I’m trying to say but this version of Sherlock will always be my favorite because he’s human and he has feelings

@@Javedskyknight he’s a very underrated actor! I wish he got more roles because he’s so so good. It annoys me when people say that bbc Sherlock is the bets when they didn’t even watch elementary(my issues with the other is when he deduced things it came off like a superpower and f you if you wanna know how he figured things out while elementary showed him figure things out and explains why, like how he found the panic room)

I am a huge Sherlock fan, books, movies and tv shows and I absolutely agree. It is simply brilliant, everything about him. And this is also my favorite Watson, which as a fan, I thought I was going to hate when I decided to give this show a chance. And what's great about it is that the merit goes 50/50 between amazing acting and amazing writing. They both did something unique with their characters but the Sherlock working on his sobriety and the Watson trying to help as much as he lets her it simply amplifies and gives greater meaning to the relationship. I could talk about this show for hours.

  • @gdkopinionator4356

Watson has always been PRECISELY what Holmes needed. That is never more illustrated than in the beginning of S6. Between his past substance issues, and his injuries, Sherlock is in a very bad way. Watson is the only person that really understands "the whole Sherlock" (perhaps aside from Gregson). What is interesting is that if Sherlock errs, he errs on the side of his sobriety, and chooses often to experience the consequences of his injuries, rather than take medication. He doubts that his neurologist understands his concerns, regardless of what the doctor says. It is Watson who draws the line when Sherlock abstains from his meds "You are going back on gabapentin TONIGHT!"

After season 4 the cases started lacking and became more cookie cutter procedural junk but two things this show never lost was the incredible acting by the actors and the wonderful character development of Sherlock, Joan, Bell and Gregson. These two elements kept Elementary worth watching all seven seasons.

The big issue for me was that they lost Watson as the audience stand in, as the character was in all other versions. Watson was never foolish, always intelligent in their own ways, yet as Elementary developed it was as if Watson had that same 'spark' that Sherlock did.

That this arc started SIX SEASONS IN just really hammers its significance home. It's not even just for this season, it's remarked upon and continues for the rest of the show. We get to know Sherlock in his totality for 120 episodes, and the 121st episode kicked off with us seeing him not only impaired but knowing there may not be any way for him to return to being unimpaired. That rattles me.

I still think that if Nelsan Ellis hadn’t died then Sherlock’s injuries would’ve included more hallucinations of Shinwell and Sherlock’s mother and the night she died, sparking both Sherlock’s need to become a detective and his addictions. Kind of like the Seven Percent Solution.

I loved this show even when they couldn't get Natalie Dormer back(due to scheduling issues I believe). I have never read any of Arthur Conan Doyle's works(yet) not even A Study In Red, but I feel like there could have been a better final villain(and by that I don't mean Moriarty, can't replace that character ever).
I think this is a good twist on a character who has this mind that sees beyond what most even among genius communities can see, and this injury though temporary is real and it affects his mind(which in a way is who Sherlock is) and therefore taking a toll on him on envisioning a future not knowing where it's headed and that is scary especially with this character who's known for knowing, seeing, understanding. I did enjoy seeing this perspective of Sherlock(I mean I like him as he is, whether he's naturally cold or not).
