Nice video, and you showed some beautiful places! It’s interesting how you mention wanting a few changes here to make it feel a bit more like home. It’s actually quite common that many people who move to a new country often wish for changes that resemble what they’re used to. Whether it’s about religion, laws, food, lifestyle - it sometimes seems like a part of their own culture needs to be brought into the new country. Maybe it’s actually enriching to embrace the differences and take the best of both worlds!
We had a diner in Almere.Like a big mobile home, with a lot of chrome and bright colors and - of course - a jukebox filled with 50s and 60s singles. Maybe because of the location (in a park, where no cars can come. ... not even for delivering goods), but it was gone within a year, I think.

Delft is known for "Delfts Blauw". Wikipedia: "... is a general term now used for Dutch tin-glazed earthenware, a form of faience. Most of it is blue and white pottery, and the city of Delft in the Netherlands was the major centre of production, but the term covers wares with other colours, and made elsewhere. It is also used for similar pottery, English delftware...." hard to explain :)
Oh and in Delft there is this nice restaurant called Herberg de Mol where you can eat....get this....medieval style! With a few chickens rummaging around and everything, a feast and even some original local recipies from hundreds years old. I've been there once and really enjoyed it. But also kinda forgot about it until you mentioned Delft., def. should go back soon now that I'm talking about it. 😋😋😋
The ceramics are known as "Delfts Blue". The royal family gets buried in the church you've shown. I'd love a Denny's or IHOP for a steak & eggs breakfast with HASH BROWNS! I miss hash browns. :(

The funny thing is people complain about a few people smoking but then picking their kids up at school and leave the engine running, or walking around a city with their baby carriage at exhaust hight. But i do agree eith you, smoking could be less. by the way, I don't smoke..
Agreed, i quitted smoking a while ago, and i dont mind others smoking outdoors in the open air.. just not with kids around. And i think as i live in Amsterdam, i get more other toxic fumes on a daily basis that worse for my health as the occasional smoke puff i am getting, although i must admit i remeber the air here beeing a lot worse on times in the past not just of smoking or cars.. Think a lot of long time residents of Amsterdam exactly know what i'm talking about when i say Choclate and Kauwgomballen smell ;-) I do admit, at times when i smell a fresh lit ciggarette the sometimes urge is getting to me... But its unfair to project my moment of weakness onto that smoker like many fellow quitted smokers do, blame their weakness onto others and are then rude to smokers and blaze from their high horses.. That i really dislike of many former smokers... my view is, that i have to be strong enough not to get temped again and if i fail, its my failure, and not because i met someone smoking.
I have screens on all my windows. That came with them when we replaced everything when we moved in. If your windows fog up, I suspect they're single pane glass. With double glazing that problem almost doesn't exist.
The Nieuwe Kerk, new church, is just a church, not a cathedral. It has the second highest tower though, the Dom in Utrecht is a little bit higher, and it is the last resting place for members of our royal family. Worth a visit and a climb :)

Most city canals in the Netherlands were dug (they're not rivers or streams) for defence purposes and as a demarcation for city limits, i.e. where the authority of the city ends. They needn't be deep, just deep enough to get an enemy soldier soaked and easy to neutralise... Most Dutch inland ships do not need deep waters, so a canal's secondary function to aid transportation is easily fulfilled. Note that 'canal' may also mean a transportation route between harbours and far away places, these may be as deep as modern day ships require.
I love how people keep calling places like delft a town or village because it has more then 100,000 people living there. but thats kinda fun about older dutch citys they feel like towns
About condensation on windows, if it happens on the outside, it's fine. If it happens on the inside, your windows are busted. Unless you have single pane windows, they're you're just SOL.

There's so many towns and places which are really gorgeous. Just takes a bit more travel. Dordrecht is really nice. In the east places like Amersfoort, Deventer, Arnhem, etc. or in the south Maastricht but also Den Bosch, Breda. Also you'd love some Belgian towns like Leuven, Brugge, Antwerpen, etc. There is a lot to still discover!

Most 'hordeuren' you have to make yourself. I have never seen a prefab. Not the nicest work, but it is for a good cause. Hornbach sells the screen for sure, but I did not look for the door-parts. But they probably have them. I have a magnetic 'hor' for the windows...very easy to do, quick system, works great, bought it online (Bol), you can easily adjust it in size . Also you can, off course, hire a handyman to do it for you...the types that you open to the side (folding or rolling system) are ideal for spaces where you do not have room to swing the door open towards you. Hope your creepy crawleys stay outside where they belong

I would like more smoking zones, but to make it illegal to smoke anywhere else. Now somehow everywhere outside is a carte Blanche to smoke, usually at exits and entrances, which makes it impossible to avoid for non smokers. I would like air treated booths for smokers. There should be no reason, like ZERO for anyone who does not smoke to continuously be bothered by it.
@@rensbuistthere's plenty of restaurants and bars these days that have smoking and non-smoking sections, though... At some point the problem is with the complainer
@@rensbuist the point is that when there's 50 restaurants in town, 30 of which offer smoking and non-smoking seating, and you go on to choose for a restaurant that doesn't distinguish smoking from non-smoking on their terrasje, it's your problem for having chosen the wrong restaurant. I am also stricken by something strange. We know bug screens over here. A lot of people actually have them. However in The Netherlands we like to hunt for flies and mosquitoes with a “vliegenmepper” (fly swatter?). Keeps us fit 😂 And bugs are only present during summer. The rest of the year it’s probably to cold for them.
For the smoke, be a little passive aggressive and have a potable fan with you and pull it out and blow the fan in their direction. To be a little more aggressive move it around in an obvious manner and make eye contact. 😀
You mean Delft Blue Earthenware. It's beautiful (and very expensive). Many houses here do have screen doors, used only in summer. Not those 15th and 16th century houses you show in your videos though. And diners? Hmmm 🤔
Americans have a different perception of what a city is. That’s why they call Delft a town, but it isn’t,it’s a city. In principle the size of a city isn’t important, the fact they got city rights (ages ago) is important. This is not a thing in the US, over there a city is a city if it is big. But we have cities with only a small amount of citizens, like Sloten which got city rights in 1426 and has only 715 inhabitants, or Bronkhorst which got city rights in 1482 and only has 100 inhabitants, or Staverden which got city rights in 1309 and has 30 inhabitants, the smallest city in The Netherlands. A city without city walls, or a cafe or church, not even a city hall, it exist of a castle and some outbuildings around it.
Idk why we would need diners. Most cafes or restaurants move tables together if you are with bigger groups. If you want cheaper food, you order take out from a chinese or surinaamse restaurant.

Adults will ask if its OK to smoke while having a drink and the table next to them is eating! And If there is a child or a baby they will normally smoke somewhere else. Again if they are adults
Google _hordeur_ and you just might find that screen doors can be purchased at DIY/hardware stores in all kinds of variations.
There is usually screens at the hardware store and condensation things too!
I'm curious what you'll think of my hometown, Venlo. It's in the southeast (east of Eindhoven). Maybe one of these days you'll go outside the Randstad for a vlog?
We have one of the biggest CD and record store in the country! Even Dutch celebs come to Venlo to buy CDs and records!
It is also used for similar pottery, English delftware...."
hard to explain :)
Dude... in that CD-DVD store you can also find vinyl!
In Arnhem we have The Roadhouse. Never eaten there myself but as they are always packed with diners must be good to give it a go!
The ceramics are known as "Delfts Blue". The royal family gets buried in the church you've shown. I'd love a Denny's or IHOP for a steak & eggs breakfast with HASH BROWNS! I miss hash browns. :(
Before Delft, Dordrecht was the place to be. The oldest royal court in the Netherlands I believe. Nowadays we don't even have higher education facilities anymore, but I always thought the vibe was similar. The buildings, the water. We have lots more water. Then again you get that being an island. 😉
There is a diner in Roosendaal. It's called Tom's Diner; 50's vibe with hamburgers and milkshakes
Hi Sky, its called Delfts blauw. The ceramics you ve talked about.
Hey man, love the video's but as a Dutch smoker I just have to say: yes you are right about the smoking areas ( gggrrrr...) but nowadays we pay big money for our tobacco...so yeah we sure as hell will smoke where possible..enough area's have made it non smoking...so it's a 'no' from me on that topic.
Again, I'm enjoying your enthousiastic video's about our country
Yeah bring them on.. Always inspiring to watch you do your thing.. 🫶
Ayyyeeee how you been man!!
Maaan I know right! Hahah😂
Hope you enjoy the vlog

So you know, they have also put up the christmas lights yesterday evening in Maastricht, it looked amazing in Wyck (they were already finished in Wyck). Also do more no smoke areas, ban selling chigarretes and vapes, so people have to go out of their way into Germany or Belgium to buy them
Those mosquito screens are called "hor" and are available as "rolhor", "horgordijn", "hordeur" or "inzethor"
If you like to know more about the porcelain Delft is known for search for: Delfts Blauw or Origineel Delfts Blauw.
@@henkiecbndnncv ayyyee thanks so much!!
@@henkiecbndnncv I’m definitely going to search Delfts Blauw!! I may come back next week and tell you what I learned 😊
@@ItzSKYVlogs If you're interested in that kind of thing, you might want to have a look at "makkumer aardewerk". Delfts blauw is a bit bland. To me it's both uberkitsch, but to each its own. :-)
Regarding screendoors, they do exist: we call them een hordeur or just een hor. Most people don't bother installing one I guess and just leave the door/windows open sometimes to ventilate.
i think you will like Breda, of Den Bosch, Gouda. Zwolle, also great cities with an old city center. als Deventer, the have just before X-mas the Dickens fest. i think you will like that.
Thank you for your videos! New subscriber.
@@deantakashige1159 ayyyye of course! Wow thanks
@@deantakashige1159 so happy you enjoyed the video and welcome to the channel 🙏
You can buy those screens everywhere, they are calles "raamhor"or deurhor
In our place there will be a dining. Its almost ready. Its a little city cold Gorcum.
Oh HI. I just happen to be in the NEED of some of your optimism after last week's dutch news international headlines. You're my feel good about my own country hero. Hit me with it, my friend. *Clicks start* I cant help but grin along on your happy vibe. Keep m comming :)
My kitchen door to the garden's got a screen sliding door, as does the big sliding window to my garden in the living room. Problem is the gauze is made of nylon, which doesn't last long, especially when you have cats in the house. 🤣No cats anymore and I do have mice in the house, but they're coming through the floor, I think. Bought some traps today. Hope they like peanut butter.
Think a lot of long time residents of Amsterdam exactly know what i'm talking about when i say Choclate and Kauwgomballen smell ;-)
I do admit, at times when i smell a fresh lit ciggarette the sometimes urge is getting to me...
Recently discovered your channel. Not sure if you already visited but I recommend Alkmaar and Amersfoort for a trip 😊❤
(and Den Bosch, Maastricht,.Nijmegen and Groningen.)
If you’re up for it, do a “hofjes toer” in Haarlem, be suprised 😁
Alot of restaurants have no smoking terrasses and these door screens exist here, my aunt and grandma have them.
WOW! You went into a canal to retrieve a drone? Then they are shallower than they look. I always thought they were deep. Screens, a big yes. In summer, I always see flies bees and all other kinds of flying creatures that can't get into my apartment. So Yeah. I feel ya. Great video.
Note that 'canal' may also mean a transportation route between harbours and far away places, these may be as deep as modern day ships require.
whenever im at van dobbe it reminds me of some american 60's diner
Wow really!!! I’m looking it up now!
Thanks so much for sharing
Great video as always
I love how people keep calling places like delft a town or village because it has more then 100,000 people living there.
but thats kinda fun about older dutch citys they feel like towns
About condensation on windows, if it happens on the outside, it's fine. If it happens on the inside, your windows are busted. Unless you have single pane windows, they're you're just SOL.
Try: Leeuwarden, franeker, sneek, Groningen, Appingedam/Delfzijl, winschoten
Aal goud mienjong/ wicht🤗
You can buy those screen doors here, the'll come out, measure and fit it into your house... most people just don't wanna pay that
Ah so cool, Delft is my hometown. Delft is home to the Technical Universities, such as Engineering and Space Technics! You should have told me that you would be there 😅
Screendoor you can get at Hornbach or Karwei. No biggie
There's so many towns and places which are really gorgeous. Just takes a bit more travel. Dordrecht is really nice. In the middle: Utrecht of course, but some small towns are nice as well (take Gouda (from Gouda kaas) for example). In the north, definitely visit Groningen. In the east places like Amersfoort, Deventer, Arnhem, etc. or in the south Maastricht but also Den Bosch, Breda. Also you'd love some Belgian towns like Leuven, Brugge, Antwerpen, etc. There is a lot to still discover!
Dude! Delft blue. C'mon! I thought everybody knew about that. I guess it's just us oldies 😊

you might want to contact people in the comments and ask some guiding in cities you want to visit. Not to include them in vlogs, but to ask specifics about the place. Like, any Dutch could have told you about "Delfts Blue Pottery"and it's history. Oh, and you were talking about coffee-culture in an earlier vlog, and i have to say coffee in the US is overall weak crap. On a trip trough Texas from Fort Worth to San Antonio i stumbled on a place called The Chopping Block where they had fresh beans you could pick, mix and grind to make fresh coffee. We took the opportunity to make a regular Dutch strength brew, and i shared some with a lady that thought it smelled amazing.. i think it caused her heart-rythm-disorders and an urge to run a marathon within 2 hours.
In the town cald "Weert" we had an American Diner but unfortunitly it didn't work here.

Delft, 'another small town' . Here us dutchies are living in 2-4k towns.. ouch. Delft is huge ;)
you have one at the Overtoom / Amsterdam
We have the snackbar/cafetaria instead of diners :) (at least in the north)
Those ceramics are known as "Delft Blue" in english. And now you know why
for me all the cities feel like Delft, like I want to get away from there back to het platteland.
delft blauw is expensive iff old... ALso when u want to buy new ofcourse but alot price differ and yes very famous.... Doors u talk about we call Hordeur.. U can just buy them iff u want that to keep bugs out or whatever...
There is an American Diner/steakhouse in Delft called Betty Boop at the Koornmarkt 93
Delft's blauw (blue) is known the world over. Guess you have to ask the older generations or just collectors. 😀
The moment you stood on the bridge next to the church, the camera pointed upwards for a moment, you would be scared How crooked the tower is. It is called "crooked Jan" looks like Pizza
If you're house get molded due to condensation, you'll have to consider to isolate your house better. 😉
We got 5-guys here, does that not count? (utrecht central for example, the outdoor plaza before the shopping center)
I knew that you going to bring up window screens, can't believe the the advantages of it, maybe a business opportunity for someone, watching your vlogs almost daily, Dutch Man( Amsterdamer) living in AZ USA for more than 30 years
We have lots of different kind of window and door screens in the Netherlands.
We do have screen doors. My parents have 1 for the backdoor.
Also, when you have time, you should visit Oud-Beijerland. It's like a small Delft. The only problem is that it wouldn't be easy to reach by public transport😂. You would first have to take the train to Dordrecht, then bus 166 to Heinenoord busstation and then the bus to Oud-Beijerland🤯🚄🚍
14:17 We are lucky to have you here in our country.
enjoying the small things
I would like more smoking zones, but to make it illegal to smoke anywhere else. Now somehow everywhere outside is a carte Blanche to smoke, usually at exits and entrances, which makes it impossible to avoid for non smokers. I would like air treated booths for smokers. There should be no reason, like ZERO for anyone who does not smoke to continuously be bothered by it.
Delft is renowned for its technical university. There are lots of students in Delft.
Next month we need a night episode to show of the Christmas lights😊
Welcome to my city bro🎉👌🏼👊🏽
Smoking is only aloud out-doors ...So it is not a problem..
@SideWalkAstronomyNetherlands On the terras it is a problem
@@rensbuistthere's plenty of restaurants and bars these days that have smoking and non-smoking sections, though...
At some point the problem is with the complainer
@dodevoeten so if we don't complain , thers are problems
@@rensbuist the point is that when there's 50 restaurants in town, 30 of which offer smoking and non-smoking seating, and you go on to choose for a restaurant that doesn't distinguish smoking from non-smoking on their terrasje, it's your problem for having chosen the wrong restaurant.
I am also stricken by something strange. That being people - like yourself - who do want to be out in public, but go on to complain about behaviours that are inextricably linked to being out in public. It feels somehow arrogant...
@dodevoeten ik wist niet dat het je zo dwars zit, dat mensen graag zonder rooklucht willen eten, Bij wet is het verboden om in een restaurant te roken. Op een terras niet ,maar wel onsmakelijk voor een niet roker.
We know bug screens over here. A lot of people actually have them. However in The Netherlands we like to hunt for flies and mosquitoes with a “vliegenmepper” (fly swatter?). Keeps us fit 😂 And bugs are only present during summer. The rest of the year it’s probably to cold for them.
we do have screens here in the netherlands. my home has them. but at least mine don't keep out cats. my cats broke the damn thing
The diners are the best inside of coffeeshops

Yep. And The Hague is our biggest village with 550k people because they never had city rights.
@ I’m not sure but history tells me they got (some kind of) city rights in 1806. And I did wrote “In principle” in my comment.
Ah, that is for dinersaurusses :) We do have restaurants here, and snack--bars, an shoarma-joints
Idk why we would need diners. Most cafes or restaurants move tables together if you are with bigger groups.
If you want cheaper food, you order take out from a chinese or surinaamse restaurant.
