@peterkeijsers489 I think ask if it's safe BECAUSE of how dangerous it is, especially for minorities. Cause I have found myself asking some friends the same thing, and I have lived outside America. But my wife is half Korean, half Italian, and I am African American, so wanting to know how safe it is for different minority groups are treated is something that I used to think about from time to time. But yea, it's because of how unsafe America is....

@@dux_bellorum I mean there are definitely places in EU where I still wouldn't like to get lost. Paris for one. Seen more and more immigrant illegal or otherwise becoming jobless and homeless being a nuisance in the city. Especially those that get drunk and try to work through their pain by fighting the world around them.
In my youth multiple times they did try to rob me, one time I escorted him to an ATM to show him my account and laugh in his face asking for a donation just for the hell of it after. So that one drooped off. And a second time it was by a guy I happened to share a beer with in a bar not long before that so he told the group I was cool. Wished him a fun night and went on my business. But yeah it is not necessarily safe in EU. Or even in The Netherlands which is where I am from. But at least we don't have extremely inflated large scale gun violence related crimes. And as far as I am aware you're less likely to get stabbed here than in England at least.

@4:48 Dude, that hit hard. I was in the Netherlands for a week in August. My last day, I was sitting next to an American couple who were spending their first day in Amsterdam (btw, greetings from Woodstock, Ga), and the first question the lady asked me was "it is safe here?" smh You did a good job with the explanation, but my take is something like this...I tell my kids (and have to remind myself) how someone reacts to you is more of a reflection of what's going on with them than with you. So maybe that's deal with us Americans. We feel unsafe in our own country so we're projecting that onto others or thinking it must be like that or worse elsewhere.

And every bank in America has heavily encouraged online banking since the early 2010s. Plus there are all the different payment apps (cash app, apple pay, google pay, etc) that can also be used to pay bills. But lots of old & poor people don't want to link their cards/accounts to monthly billers. So tons of people still pay bills in person at a store or send checks & money orders.

6:43 So true. I'm Black, and a large part of my family lives in Virginia. When one of my nieces visited us in the Netherlands last year, she was genuinely surprised to see people of diverse backgrounds, including other Black people, here. She mentioned that she thought Black Americans were the only Black people in the West. She was also surprised when we took a day trip to Aachen in Germany and saw how multicultural it was there too. She thought that cause of ww2 she thought no other race would dare to live in Germany. Americans often tend to live in a bit of a bubble, which is understandable given how big the country is.

(i say this as a dutch person that never been to the us) I believe that living in a bubble point is a big thing. look at europe alot of countries border others with different cultures. look at the usa it has 2 borders with countries and culture they have in america. We visist/go on holiday by car to different countries in europe we get in touch with so many different cultures/countries so easily that you can easier see and reflect on your own place and say "yeah we are not the best in this or that". To me it feels like americans don't get that and because they are told this is the best country they have no reference so they believe it.

Just tell your Asian and black friends in the states, that outside the states, as soon as they start talking, no one sees them as Asian or Black, everyone sees them as American.
Black, white, Asian Americans all see themselves are vastly different from each other. But outside the US they are seen so similar to each other that people can hardly tell a difference.

I was in Paris during the Olympics, and it was amazing. How Paris is mixing the old with the new. Then I was back home and talked to family members. They are all excited about the LA Olympics as they want to be better than the Paris Olympics. I said, "Sorry, this will never happen" and they asked "Why?". I showed them pictures of Paris, of huge train stations, subway stations with 6 different lines, underground shopping centers and the charm of a world city. They couldn't believe it, that you can have a subway that goes every 90 seconds and in so many different directions.
Don't get me wrong, I love LA. However, when it comes to infrastructure, safety and overall quality of live, LA cannot even get close to Paris. The biggest plus for LA is the Ocean and the weather, and I love good weather;-)

Those replaces the post up and pull over kinda deal If you're going too fast you just get a ticket automatically. The US is a great country but seriously we’re talking about a country that has so many problems such a shocking gun violence and governments of all stripes seem unable to fix it. The embarrassing lack of universal health care which Australia had had since 1984 😳 yet the US government spends more per capita on health than Australia does. How does that work? I saw a vlog from an American busdriver and he talks about (surprise!) busses from all over the world. He compared a modern European bus to an average bus in the US. The difference was staggering! The busses in the US haven't seen much innovation the last decades, apart from a digital display that they slapped on to make it seem modern.
Also, an other channel about trucks showed a European truck from the late 90's. They were flabbergasted how modern it was compared to the US trucks.... I was amazed, because a 24 year old truck isn't even allowed in Rotterdam anymore because of the emission standards. Let alone how the truck looks like on the inside and how much the driving controls have evolved. The US truck market is very different, and they all use different brands than in Europe, like Peterbuilt and Mack, so there's not a lot of 'our' trucks over there. That's convenient for the US truck companies because there's no comparison...but it's like they're driving horse and carriage over there..just sayin'

As a school bus driver myself, I can confirm the bus situation. We recently got a few international buses. I have a feeling they aren't the newest options, but they're still much easier to drive and do pre-trip inspections on and overall just feel better than all the others. That said, I think our transit style ones were the most comfortable. Not sure why we feel such a need to make school buses have a big nose when city buses usually don't.

I love your postive outlook! And as a Dutchman who moved 21 years ago to the US for love, I totally agree with you! (I'm glad you say these things as an American, because as a Dutchman saying the same thing to Americans, I catch a lot of heat 😂. Some examples 1.Technology: when I came to the US in 2003, I was absolutely shocked my 16yr old stepdaughter didn't have a cell phone. Every respectable 7yr old in NL already had one. 2. American mindset: Arriving in 2003, my MIL made me promise not to abduct her daughter when she visited NL with me (My MIL thought NL was next to Afghanistan 😮). Your video hit home, lol. One thing tho, Americans don't want to pay more taxes cuz they're not invested themselves in government. E.g. In federal elections in NL voter turnout is always over 80%. In US in 2020 it was a "record" that 66% voted. I think that's both laughably low and disgraceful. On police: Dutch police gets 3yrs of training, close to a bachelorship. American policeman only gets 19 weeks of training, but Americans don't want to pay more taxes to fund their own police. You get what you paid for (or didn't pay for). Anyway, great videos!!! Love your content and the positive delivery!!

for the traffic scan things: They are on specific highways, or at least were. We do have 'undercover' camera cars that are just driving or that post up with a camera on spots slightly randomized. Pull overs are rare enough because usually photo's are enough to send out the citation and I dont think we have laws that allow police to just search a vehicle once they stopped it. So sending the photo and getting money is more efficient that stopping over and trying to get more out of the stop. At least that's my theory.

It does not mean that you do not have to stay alert, but when you start with your arms open wide, adventure starts. Afterall, even in "safe"countries you can find your self at the wrong place at the wrong time.

Occasionally they do it here too. Sometimes they’ll cooperate with customs and “belastingdienst’, they’ll scan license plates and it automatically checks if they can find people who are overdue on certain fees and fines.
The main reason why I think the US is far behind, is the way companies operate. They still accept payment by check and electronic payments don’t seem to be the norm. For new suppliers, I always need to ask for banking details, as they just don’t have them mentioned on their invoices.
And if I hear how tax season works in the US, I’m happy with how it is here.

"Why Do The Dutch Feel So Far AHEAD?" you were asking? Well, I think we don't feel that way. It is our standard. The fact you think like that.. It says more about the conditions in the states than the conditions here in The Netherlands. I - personally - complain regularely about things here, but I very much appreciate where I live. I do think the standards are (way) higher, but I don't feel like that, because I am used to it.

You are absolutely right about the discrimination that happens with post and pull over. Ethnic and poverty profiling are a real problem. It's not for nothing that back when this was still a big thing in the Netherlands every dealer doing door to door delivery was a white guy in a suit in a fancy car, because that way they wouldn't get pulled over. You would text them and they would tell you to wear nice clothing to come to the car to pick up the goods. They would drive you around while doing business often passing cop cars with no worry whatsoever. When the system changed the chance to get caught for these dealers increased significantly, because now they could get pulled over just as easily as anyone else and it freed up the police to do more investigative work to track down the places where these guys bought their product.
Some people say that there was a spike in crime after the system changed, but the spike was caused by more people getting caught that weren't visible to the authorities.
I would go even as far to say that the change in attitude from the Police directly caused them to catch higher level criminals that before benefited from the Police going after a specific group of people.

@@richardheumann1887 , nah, these days they use flashers for speed and red lights. You will see police cars during accidents on highways, but the days of Rijkspolitie and Porsches are gone. They will occasionally set up mobile speed cameras, but haven't seen them for years now.... you will get a letter from CBJ with a bill to pay online and you get a snapshot of your car for free 😂🤣. When I lived in the States I had been pulled over and you have to go to court, if you have your first speeding ticket, you can show up in court earlier than it said on the ticket when the DA would be there. He'd ask your name, say how fast you went. You said sorry, and he pleaded it down to 9 miles over the limit so it would not count as points towards your license, you pay the fine and go home. Don't know what would happen the second time, as that didn't happen. Here I guess if you become a danger on the road, yeah, you will get caught and probably end up in court, but not for most tickets.

When I was at university, I took some optional classes on US politics, history, law, and society.
To understand different ideas about freedom, I looked at the thoughts of Isaiah Berlin and Jean-Jacques Rousseau: Berlin talks about 'negative freedom.' This is like what many Republicans in the U.S. believe - that people should be free to do what they want without the government getting in the way. This shows up in their push for fewer business rules and strong gun rights. On the other hand, Rousseau's idea of 'positive freedom' is seen in Dutch politics under Prime Minister Rutte. Here, the government helps make sure everyone can live well. This includes more support for things like healthcare and looking after the environment. These ideas show two different views on freedom. Negative freedom is about being left alone, and positive freedom is about living well with the help of laws.
Dutch people, like most Europeans, usually think of freedom as being safe from unnecessary risks. However, Americans often see freedom as not being bothered by others, especially the government. There's a bit of irony in both views: Europeans often expect or even want rules but also prefer keeping government and religion separate, which many Americans see as hypocritical. Meanwhile, Americans usually don't like government rules or interference but can be very respectful and devout when it comes to religion, which a lot of - mainly Western Europeans find hypocritical. To each their own, I guess.

Around 06:00 minutes - just that. We've had an American guy, 40-ish, from our Apex NC branch. We're in Vlaardingen, near Rotterdam. He was with us for 5 weeks on training; I was one of his trainees. Now he probably wasn't the best guy they could have sent; since during 5 weeks, he was moping, complaining, arriving late with a hangover he got in his hotel, constantly accompanied by this dark cloud over him. In 5 weeks time; he could have also have explored a lot of my country during the weekends - he had a company credit card, he got one of our VW Golfs to use, but instead preferred to stay in his hotel just about all the time. He has literally seen nothing of what my country has to offer, and was especially kinda afraid to travel - so, same problem. Getting around here is easy, comfortable, roads are quite safe, public transport not always the cleanest but generally 90% is dead on time, but he still couldn't get out of his comfort zone. If I were to stay for a month in Apex, I'd travel and explore every hour I'd be off working.

After living in Europe and now back in the States for 7 years now, I think we are falling behind in certain ways. I'm excited to go work in Korea for two years, and I'm sure after being in Asia, I will definitely feel like we are. But we can definitely do better in terms of tech, public transportation, education, and healthcare.

My ex is American and said there's definitely a big difference and how the US is still living in the 90's in most parts.

I am originally Dutch, living in Tanzania. In the Netherlands, nobody carries a gun or has a gun at home. Isn't that a big contribution in feeling unsafe. Your children go to school and are shot dead in a school class?? And still they maintain these gun laws.......

I think USA and NL have a few big differences: 1) We are not proud of our country, USA is. We are more down to earth, honest and realistic it seems. 2) About the development thing: NL is smaller and i think that is why our country is more decisive about things, simply because we have less people. Besides that: everything is relatively close-by. And: It takes much less companies to develop things like infrastructure, because of our country has a smaller size.. IF you would want to do the same thing in a much bigger country, it takes much more time AND you will have more product and development quality differences between different places in the country... I personally view USA as an collection of countries trying to work together, and not one big country.

You should watch some videos of the channel Not Just Bikes. Infra structure is mainly a task of cities. And comparable cities in the USA have a real bad infrastructure. The Netherlands are world wide famous for their advanced infrastructure, that is safe and smart.
Has nothing to do with size. The car centric development is the reason for bad infrastructure. Not only in the USA, but also in Belgium.

American exceptionalism, baby! Most Americans truly believe that in the USA everything is best. Not just a leader in the world but THE leader of the world. That might be true from a economic and military perspective. But from a societal and political perspective the USA is behind to many countries all over the world.

Well, you got to start somewhere. So maybe Atlanta will be the starting point of America improving, and other states might follow the example when they see the possitive results of their efforts. But yes, it will take a long time for sure. Just like it didn't happen overnight in the Netherlands (and other European countries) too. Not just some years but decades.
