I left home at 18. Moved a thousand miles away from home, married with a baby on my hip back in 1977. Found a cheap rental for 140.00 a month. Didn't have money to buy furniture. Used what I could find on the side of the road and lots of cinder block tables😂. It made me tough. It made me appreciate everything I accomplished. Now I have a nice home and I finished out the basement with a full bath and kitchen. My children who are in their 40s now are doing well. With that being said. I made a comfortable place to be for anyone, if hard times hit for them. I have already had multiple people make use of it.
You are the dad I wish I had. I bet your caring, loving and the type of dad that you can call any time of night, without judgement, but guidance. 🤦🏾♀️😔
@@daisydukes8252 he did help with the project, the labor portion. But it’s a little short sided to think that someone of the age of 17 should be helping financially when, if you can afford it, they should be enjoying their youth. He’s a good appreciative boy, and a good human being. That’s all we ask.
My youngest son lives w/ me and I am so thankful he does. If I didn't have his help I would be homeless as my rent alone exceeds my SS check, so there wouldn't even be money for food, utilities, etc. He can't afford a place of his own either so this works out perfect for us.
I think this is going to be the new way of life. Grown children at home. My youngest son at age 30 is home and we really enjoy it. And honestly, financially it works best.
So much warmth and thoughtfulness is pouring out of this “garage home” brilliant and cozy within 361 sq. ft. Thank you for sharing this inspiration 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
I can't articulate how soothing this video was to watch. Dad's presentation was so inviting as we joined him on the tour. Every detail was done so thoughtfully, loved how he explained why things were done and it all made perfect sense. The decor is spectacular and inspiring. Loved how the screen door in the bedroom is on the inside rather than on the outside. You have done such a beautiful job. A shout out to the camera person for a steady hand and capturing everything. Thanks for sharing.
I told my son as long as he was not an idiot he could live with me rent free. He had to save the money he would pay for rent as long as he was living with me. He has been doing so for 10 years. He works and sleeps and saves saves saves.
It was fine. But we’re all different so all good. I think it adds atmosphere because when others do a walkthrough without anything to balance out the talking and explaining it could lack the interest and sound drab. Just another perspective.😊
I think lowering it during talking points to be very faint would be beneficial but to cut it out may appear unprofessional ish. Again just another perspective.
Wow! A beautiful space for your son. So smart of him not paying $2000/month rent. Keep the money & home upgrade in the family. This will forever upgrade the home. Plus you have some privacy space.
'Garage' is probably bigger than my house. They haven't just renovated it, the detail is incredible. The design, the aesthetic, the function. It's absolutely beautiful and I'm starting to think lately that families might be better staying close together, as long as you get along of course. It might help loneliness and we can support and care for each other. What lovely parents, you can feel the love x

It’s small for the US. You can’t compare it to other countries lol. The us is where he lives so it has to be compared to what’s the norm for the us, not some third world European country lol
@@thehungrygoldfish didn't know that Germany is already an European third world country 😂 we just build our houses out of bricks, not light wood and cardboard. That's just more expensive 😝
@@k-mixxx7927 It might as well be. You’re like the 50th German I’ve seen that has said everything is expensive! Didn’t know everyone was so destitute in Germany!
@@thehungrygoldfish I don't know about what's going on exactly in your country, but let's say, I know there are some very very expensive citys like NYC. Incredible! Even more expensive than here! I also don't know much about the average salary of an average person and the average price of housing outside NYC etc. But Germany is the country in Europe with the least house owners, because it's just unaffordable. Also renting becomes more and more unaffordable. One thing is, that your country has muuuuuuuch more space for people to live. Look at the map! Less space means higher prices. Sure there are parts of e.g. Eastern Germany with very cheap housing prices, both buying and renting, but there are not many jobs. The places with jobs are very expensive, many people live there, not much space, we absolutely don't have enough flats. I live in Munich, the prices are ridiculous and raised triple in the last ten years. No normal earning person can afford a flat, let alone a house! For example, just saw it yesterday: 432.000€ (around the same in US Dollars) for an apartment = no separate bedroom, only one little room. WTF?! The prices also don't really lower when you try to get out of town. Maybe around 80-100km away, in case theres not another town with jobs. You have to get far into the countryside AND have a good pair job with home office, then you can start thinking about getting a house (otherwise you pay your butt off for fuel, the prices here are higher than in your country). But still then you don't have those houses and garages, because still there not the amount of cheap land to build on. And not to forget, the stricter and stricter rules for building environmental friendly, which push up the prices even more. And yes, poverty is raising and raising in Germany.
As a 20 something paying rent for a 1 bedroom apartment here in Canada, I'd have to say, what you have been able to do for your son will be so meaningful to him, not just financially, but emotionally too!
This is best designed garage to living space I've seen, and I have watched many. The extra features take it over the top. Great ideas for storage, function and design. My favorite feature is the window sideways door to divide the space, excellent idea and looks so good, love it. The raised bathroom floor, genius. This is an adorable little cottage! Loved everything except the annoying background music, it wasn't necessary, a bit loud.
I totally agree with everything you said, including the comment about the music. The funny thing is, I think this video has 100% positive comments, except for the music... and that has nothing to do with this awesome place!!!
Could you please come to my one bedroom condominium and do whatever you want!!! I love everything especially how you added so much storage and character! It's so amazing 👏👏
So fantastic. The only thing that I can say is when you got to the bathroom so beautiful, but the music is so loud I cannot hear what you are saying. I would of loved to hear how you went about doing the shower, the whole place is fantastic. My husband and I have always tried our best to help our children to get on their feet and stay on their feet and have always offered them a place to stay truly has a blessing in their lives and ours.
Love it! By not wasting space on hallways, you were able to use it all for living space. Hallways eat up square footage that should be used to get more use of every living area in a home. If I were doing the renovation, I would get a smaller washer and dryer because your dryer is too high up for me. I am on the short side and also disabled. I can't handle that bathroom step, but raising the bathroom floor meant you could just run the plumbing between the original floor and the new one. This undoubtedly saved you time, energy, and money. There isn't room there to have a short ramp instead of the step, but there is another alternative for disabled people. That would be to have a new, raised floor for the entire apartment, with a short ramp outside the entry door. I noticed that the ceiling is pretty high, so there is plenty of vertical space to do that. I would call this a studio apartment, as the bedroom isn't fully enclosed. However, the bedroom alcove is well partitioned off, so it does have a nice, private feel. The vent holes are a big help with the air circulation, and having them high up maintains the private feel of the bedroom alcove. I like the internal window, too, because it lets in more natural light while again maintaining that private feeling in the bedroom alcove. I like the whole place, and my issues regarding accessibility could be easily fixed in a similar renovation, so I give this place 5 stars!

Music while speaking in video's is really bad idea and one most new YT'ers make. The people i have been following since joining almost at the beginning of YT stopped it because it is annoying, especially when it's a video that is very interesting, informative and a knowledgeable speaker/host which you are! You don't need the viewer being distracted with the childish music (honestly, any music is annoying when people are talking. Maybe music for your intro and outro but everywhere else, please don't. I did hit the subscribe button while you were showing the refrigerator! RIGHT AWAY! This conversation is outstanding.
Great video, but gosh the music! Honest review.. the music is annoying. Too loud. I had trouble hearing you over it. The Reno is amazing! What great thought went into the placement and materials. Super impressed with this and will definitely earmark to check out your site. Please, revise the video and lower the volume of the music or get rid of it altogether!
Kudo's to you. You're wonderful parents, taking excellent care of your son. Myriad parents think once they're children are grown, they're parenting is over. The remodel is better than most apartments...❤
OMG that is gorgeous!!!! We converted half our garage as my hobby space/laundry and kitchen appliance storage and that was hard work. What you have done is beyond next level!!!
I really love this family’s ability to help when help is needed. This is how all families should be. I am in my 50’s, 7 years ago I sold my house my mom sold hers and we moved in together with my daughter to help support each other and offer care for mom. And when rent was too outrageous my son and his wife and kids came to stay as well. Family is supposed to support each other.
This is beautiful and brilliant. You have so much to be proud of. As a little side note, the background music in this is awful, obnoxious…& it competes with your voice. I struggled to hear you and almost quit watching. I stayed with it because it’s so worth watching.
Yes, I’m so so sorry. The next one, I promise will be much better in regards to the music. I didn’t realize how loud it was when I clicked post. Anyway… Won’t happen again. And thank you so much for watching.
@@bonifaciobonifacia8679 I wish I had the ability to tune out other competing sounds. If you can imagine a dog barking in your ear while you try to listen to a speaker then you might be able to understand what many of us with sensory processing issues deal with.

There are pros and cons of letting your kids stay with you. I moved to the US with a $500 and a bachelors degree. I have redecorated their rooms and cleaned it up a little bit since they’re older. Their rooms are open for them to come home if needed, but my kids are very independent. So hopefully they’ll be able to navigate the world just like I did!
Wonderful renovation. You are great parents and are teaching your son about the true meaning of parenting. He will remember the sacrifices you made to make his life better.
BRILLIANT !! We are doing the same for our 22 year old son. The rent in Australia is insane. We live in a big house on a beach acreage property and have 3 adult children now back at home. (We love it!) all together again and helping each other out. I think we will build small barn home on here as well soon. We will love to live in it while the daughter and her partner and future children can live in the bigger house.
Well, I am glad that your son has a support network while he struggles through this. Sending up a prayer now for his speedy recovery, and for you as well.
🏠 Wow - what an amazing space; whether it was a garage previously or not + the fact his parents did this for their son & family is incredibly generous!!! 🥰
Wow, both my children (21yo) were able to find a place in Atlanta GA to rent! Some may not like it but they found what they could comfortably afford. Amazing what parents do for their children......good for you!
Where in Atlanta? I lived in Smyrna and Marietta as a child. After college, I lived in Sandy Springs. It was so affordable then, before the Olympics and tax hikes.
I live in Pensacola, FL and there is a huge housing shortage plus an astronomical housing market. While I have two children who were able to find appts they could afford, my married child is now expecting and looking at 1200 sqr ft homes for $230k!
Thank you so much… I one bedroom that size would be around 1500 here… So we figured well… Why not put the money in our own house and then get it out when we sell.
❤I agree wholeheartedly with the other comments on this video, this is the best garage conversation I have EVER seen!!! No doubt about it! From the kitchen to the bathroom. There is only 1 thing I would change and that is the fact that the back door on the place is all glass. That is saying something for me. But they used such great products! Great refrigerator, stove, the whole kitchen. I love that they have a full size washer and dryer and ironing board and that medicine cabinet is GREAT, and the bathroom is the cherry on top! I know my comments are all over the place. I am very impressed ❤
Stunning! I love how the garage feel is not there. It’s cozy, practical, & luxurious at the same time. Reminds me of a tiny home. The green tiles in the bathroom is a head turner-brings back mid century vibes. I love the creativity!
The appliances are all high end. I would love to know how much this cost. You didn’t cut corners, that’s for sure, I can tell you’re very proud of what you’ve done, as you should be. It’s beautiful ❤
❤I have a pretty large unused den. My son & I used to use it as a gaming room/home office. Since he’s grown up,I’m thinking of converting it into a space similar to this for when he & his fam visit. Tfs❤!
My Lord, this is truly gorgeous & quite impressive! Hats off to whoever did the design, decorating and overall construction of this beauty. Sir, you & your wife are brilliant to have come up with such an amazing idea for your son. Wish I could live there myself! Thanks so much for sharing. God bless! NOTE: Music got louder @ 6:50 & drowned out your voice. Honestly, no need for music because your narration & voice alone are just perfect.
Heck, forget the kids. At my senior age I would love a place that that! Simple and easy to maintain. Wonderful space! Only thing I would change is the hanging cloths area. I would add a door so my cloths didn't pickup smells from cooking.
Holy macaroni! This is top notch amazing!! Planning, patience, skills and cashola! So sooo well designed! You must be so proud of it all. Thanks for sharing!
Thank you so much. The original budget was around 48,000… but, as usual, we ended up spending around 68,000… keep in mind that was us doing the labor. Normally that would’ve cost around 125 I think.
Your conversion is amazing! Bravo! My son had our garage converted into a music studio. It turned out great. No bathroom, open floor plan with a sound booth and new laminated flooring, paint, and recess lighting. Off the garage there’s a large side yard. I spoke to the contractor about putting in a bathroom. He gave me a quote of only 13k for a standard bathroom, nothing fancy. So, one day I hope to add a bathroom. Then my son’s clients would not have to come into the house. It would be perfect.
Amazingly beautiful! I did the same thing with our single car garage for my eldest. In our conversion though, we not only laid the plumbing on top of the cement but raised the level of the floor in the entire apt, so no step ups (or downs). I also installed a murphy to save floor space.
THIS is love. They have the ability to bless their son, and they do so with joy in their hearts. We have been staying with my husband's folks for the past few years (we only thought we'd stay for maybe one year), and the arrangement feels unhealthy for the most part. As if they allow us to stay out of obligation. When we end up with the resources we need (and then some), we won't hesitate to bless our kids or other family members. I'm always surprised that so many people don't have a desire to help out their loved ones or anyone around them who are struggling. Money is just a means to an end, but for some, it is their greatest prize in life. My kids know that our FAMILY is the greatest prize in our life. ❤ Seeing this father explain the reno is a total treat. The world needs more parents like this.
Some kids really do win the parent lottery. That space is great.

That’s so great to hear! Glad you could use the tip! Best of luck with your project
God bless you 🙏✝️🕊🩷
You are the dad I wish I had. I bet your caring, loving and the type of dad that you can call any time of night, without judgement, but guidance.
🤦🏾♀️😔
Well, yes but you deserve that too! I’m sure your children will be well taken care of by you 😀
What a Blessed & lucky son to have a family build this for him! So pretty
thank you so much
I hope he helped with it financially and with the labor.
@daisydukes8252 why? Now he can save for his future and maybe his children will be even more well off.
@@onedaynoreason2572 true
Way to go. You improved your son's life, added equity to your property and maybe inspired others to do the same. Home run!

100% our pleasure! The camera man is my wife...so when I hug her, I will let her know :)
I told my son as long as he was not an idiot he could live with me rent free. He had to save the money he would pay for rent as long as he was living with me. He has been doing so for 10 years. He works and sleeps and saves saves saves.
Great idea and looks wonderful! My only complaint...the music in your video made it hard to focus on you speaking.
Good to know. I will make sure to watch that on the next upcoming video. (keep it lower for sure!)
I liked it 😊 the space looks great too!!
Yes ! It's horrible music and does something weird to your brain.
Wow! A beautiful space for your son. So smart of him not paying $2000/month rent. Keep the money & home upgrade in the family. This will forever upgrade the home. Plus you have some privacy space.
This is THE BEST garage conversion that I have seen! Amazing, awesome Exceptional design and workmanship!
well, thank you!
Wow! Do u guys realize that 165k people viewed this in just the 5d’s u uploaded this video. That should tell yah what an awesome dad u are for your son; son betta be grateful & optimize on this opportunity. And *what a cool garage* !
Though I’m a girlie girl I love masculine decor. Great design and color palette for every taste!
Well thank you/ and good of you to notice
Dad shows all the TINY kitchen appliances.. Me, wondering what he means, because that's all normal size in Europe 😂
Plus, the size of the garage!!! 😮 In some / most parts Germany you must be a billionaire to own such a garage!
Loved everything except the annoying background music, it wasn't necessary, a bit loud.
aww, thanks so much! I will definitely keep the sound lower next time! Hope you're following. There are many more to come!
@@HerHomeReno For me, background music is unnecessary.
I totally agree with everything you said, including the comment about the music. The funny thing is, I think this video has 100% positive comments, except for the music... and that has nothing to do with this awesome place!!!
My jaw just dropped to the floor! Amazing, functional, and beautiful. Your son is blessed to have y'all
This is the BEST tiny house I’ve seen!!! Simply beautiful.

Same here. I miss them.
Good grief, this is incredible! Functional yet beautiful, artistic. Very inviting.
p.s. had to add: I love the iron
Well THANK YOU! THANK YOU!
The bathroom is beautiful!
S I absolutely love everything about it ❤
Absolutely fantastic job!!
Very clever on the bath plumbing.
Would prefer the background music be much more quiet.
I cannot hear about the music when you are talking about the floor. Did you say LDL floor?
Thats a good observation for sure!
No. I moved back home once after i lost my house, but no to this. I've been out of the house since i was 16 yrs old, thank you.
I saved and moved and am way better spot than i was. You may have to leave your comfort zone, but you prove yourself. I ❤️ my life

Agree. It's annoying because it's cutesy and repetitious
I would have to agree. If a youtuber is spending up the video, then I don't see why you wouldn't add music then.
I’m watching with it muted.
I muted and used closed captions. Great conversion.
I enjoyed the background music.
Brilliant, but what is the purpose of the loud music in the last part of this video.?
Kudo's to you. You're wonderful parents, taking excellent care of your son. Myriad parents think once they're children are grown, they're parenting is over. The remodel is better than most apartments...❤
OMG that is gorgeous!!!! We converted half our garage as my hobby space/laundry and kitchen appliance storage and that was hard work. What you have done is beyond next level!!!
Thanks!

You are just the sweetest
This is beautiful and brilliant. You have so much to be proud of.
As a little side note, the background music in this is awful, obnoxious…& it competes with your voice. I struggled to hear you and almost quit watching. I stayed with it because it’s so worth watching.
Yes, I’m so so sorry. The next one, I promise will be much better in regards to the music. I didn’t realize how loud it was when I clicked post. Anyway… Won’t happen again. And thank you so much for watching.
I didnt notice the music coz Im well concentrated with the content and the engaging talk of owner, I felt the same and also feel envious.
@@bonifaciobonifacia8679 thanks so much for watching
@@bonifaciobonifacia8679 I wish I had the ability to tune out other competing sounds. If you can imagine a dog barking in your ear while you try to listen to a speaker then you might be able to understand what many of us with sensory processing issues deal with.
Yes, agreed! The video is so good, and the renovation just amazing, but I struggled to hear your voice at times, and toward the end of the video, the music almost made me stop watching.
Great video and explanation. Annoying background music so I muted.
Your son is so lucky to have wonderful parents like you! This is such a thoughtful, carefully crafted conversion. I love it!
Great Work! Such detail and care was put into it. Kudos!
Fabulous small space for out of town visitors..Very wise use of space. Well done.
Very nice. Music was too loud, however, so turned it right down and missed the commentary.
WHAT GREAT PARENTS!

Great use of space. Looking to create an apartment from the garage. Hate the music over top the talking tho but thankfully I could use the captions.
Amazing design and decorating! It was hard hearing you at times because of the music. I would rather just hear your voice.

Thank you so very much
I live in Pensacola, FL and there is a huge housing shortage plus an astronomical housing market. While I have two children who were able to find appts they could afford, my married child is now expecting and looking at 1200 sqr ft homes for $230k!
Thank you so much… I one bedroom that size would be around 1500 here… So we figured well… Why not put the money in our own house and then get it out when we sell.
Enjoy EVERYTHING about this video 🎉from Atlanta Ga ❤❤❤❤🎉
Well, those are just the nicest words! The tiles are called Chloe (which is our daughters name as well)
Wow, rarely do I comment on UA-cam videos , but this design is IMPRESSIVE! What a great use of space! Very nice!

Awesome use of space. I would live there in a minute.
The appliances are all high end. I would love to know how much this cost. You didn’t cut corners, that’s for sure, I can tell you’re very proud of what you’ve done, as you should be. It’s beautiful ❤
Im gona do an upcoming video on the cost breakdown for sure!
I'll venture to guess this was over $300/sqft to build. It's a luxury build. Quality materials and architectural details don't come cheaply.

It's gorgeous, and you are not to shabby for parents either. I love that old door window.
What kind of budget would I need to do something like this. I absolutely love what you did. That bathroom is amazing.
Thank you so much. The original budget was around 48,000… but, as usual, we ended up spending around 68,000… keep in mind that was us doing the labor. Normally that would’ve cost around 125 I think.
I Luv it, so modern just my style wish i had a permanent place just like it❤
Your conversion is amazing! It would be perfect.
thats a great idea!
