Watching this video ( for the 2nd time), reminds me of a quote from Andy Warhol which I will attempt to paraphrase “just paint: leave it to others to decide if it’s any good - and while they are deciding… paint some more”
Great note BL. I think you and I agree with that! I try not to over obsess about the merit of each painting, just do it and keep doing it! Cheers my friend 🙏
Glad you mentioned John Blockley, he’s my absolute favourite watercolour artist and my main inspiration to keep trying! Love this video. When you did the cauliflower bits it reminded me of John Blockleys work. Always find your tutorials really helpful and inspiring, and this was another one! I liked your point about not using a premixed grey too. There is so much more interest and variety when you mix your own greys!
Thanks Alison. Great to hear from another JB fan. I first came across his work back in the late 70's and it has stayed with me ever since! He was a real maverick and I'm not sure if I would have found watercolour quite so exciting had it not been for him! 👍
Learning so much from your videos. Among other things, relearning how to have just fun as an artist. Just paint …. Because it is fun and Its the only way to learn.
The last time you mentioned Blockley I ordered a used book. It was put together by his daughter Ann. Then I ordered (used)one of her books. Ann has a new book, too. I am still struggling with loosening my watercolors. Perhaps more abstraction will help. Your demo today gives me a bit of inspiration. I’ll give it a go.
@@EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art You keep excellent company Edo! I have promoted Kees's book amongst my students for years. He has many fans here in South Wales and the whole of the UK.🙏
I liked it a lot Howard! And I loved your final thoughts were a bit of a tread on my facebook. The fear of expensive paper, because you have to make a masterpiece on expensive paper. I always say have fun be free the masterpiece flows out of your brush by itself one day. You show that to experiment and give what the watercolour needs is a perfect way to make Art. because this is truly became a lovely watercolour.
Got to be one of my favourite’s of yours!!!!

Well that was 35 mins of liberating fun Howard, thanks for the inspiration, Kev
Thank you! 🙏
I love the idea of directional lines and letting the white of the paper to show through. I would like to see more demos of these
Looked up John Blockley while watching and I can instantly see the influence in your work. Lovely stuff
More interesting to mix the neutrals with hints of color peeking through.

Kees van Aalst wrote a book realistic abstracts, and also the book from Ron Ranson about John Palmer is very good.
@@EdoHannema-Watercolour-Art Thanks Edo, I have the Kees van Aalst book which is a great book! I'll check out the John Palmer book too!👍
@@howardjones2159 Kees is a good Old friend from me. He is almost 90 but still very quick with his brushwork.
