- In this video I will show you how I leased a farm for no money. And I turned the property into a No Till Oasis using pea and oat cover crops as a sheet mulch!

how to get a free farm: step 1: You gotta be hella cool and respectful.
I love hearing you ask if you need to pay the water bill, instead of taking advantage of an easy situation. The definition of manifestation and hard work in action, love your channel
Thanks so much 🙏 I appreciate you following along 🙌 he’s a man of few words! I just ended up dropping him a fat tote of veggies yesterday and dropped $100 bucks in it. And he texted me to say thank you and told me that was plenty for now. Super greatful for the opportunity he’s given me 🙏
You are crushing it! All your veg are amazing, dude! Thank you for sharing your passion and process!
You’re welcome! Thanks for watching 🙏
This is the true definition of loving what you do.
I quit my job 3 years ago and haven’t worked a day since 🤣 thanks for watching 🙏
@@chefsharvestfarm 🤣
@@andrewphillips7320 thanks 🙏
Easy to love what you do if you "lease a farm for no money."
loving the intricate details behind it all, can’t wait for more
@@saucyruben thanks for the encouragement! I really appreciate it 🙌
This is probably one my favorite channels Now, I just found it and started watching it. Very inspiring and motivating 😊
Thanks Juan! That’s great encouragement 🙌 I really appreciate your support 🙏 I’m just getting started 💪
Man I just found your channel and we are loving it it has made my wife and I push now to get our farm going and making money, thanks for your time and video's.
@@ironrodfarm that’s amazing! I’m happy to hear you find the videos useful! Thanks for watching! I appreciate it 🙏
Keep it moving... lil older, gonna follow you with baby steps. Congrats to your folks for the DRIVE you have.
Thank you 🙏
This was a very inspirational video. I know GOD will continue to Bless You and Your Gardens Abundantly. Thanks for sharing friend.
Thanks Ms. J 🙌 this place is actually so much cooler than I was able to show in this video! Can’t wait to share more. There is literally an extreme mountain bike course with jumps that are insane right next to the garden. All of which is on an 80 acre homestead in the Knoxville urban wilderness. And there is also a preschool on the property where the kids go to school in the forest every day.
@@chefsharvestfarm Yes please do share. Can’t wait to see the Preschool in the Forrest.
Keep it up man, food sovereignty is freedom.
So true! My goal is to never have a job again 💪
I need to try this with my neighbors now 💪
Heck yeah 🙌 I think it’s a fairly common arrangement 👊
Just found your channel recently, loving it man. Keep it up 🤙
Awesome! Thanks for following along 🙏
thanks for the videos I've learned so much and look forward to your future best wishes
Thanks so much 🙏
Really appreciate all the hard work you're doing. Makes me tired just watching you!!
I appreciate you watching 🙏 sorry if I made you tired 🤣
Absolutely killing it brother!!
Thanks Herber 🙏
Great content! Thanks 🙏 so much for posting these videos! Wishing you nothing but success.
Thanks for watching! I’m glad you enjoy them 🙏
I love the “rental agreement” you worked out with the owner. Fresh Veggies for the Owner is a WIN👏🏾Your doggie helper is just to darn cute! He is just chillin’ like a villain😂🐶Every time I watch one of your videos You give me some great ideas….Thank You my new gardening brother!
Thanks Ms J 🙌 there is 2 of the big white fluffy dogs, 2 boarder collies (all farm dogs). Plus the owner has 3 dogs that live inside his house. So farm no major deer or ground hog issues. A little bit of rabbit issues seems like. But they do good work overall
You’re killing it!! Thank you for all the videos and sharing your life with us brother 🤙
Thanks for watching 🙏 I appreciate it!
Great work keep up the good work 🇳🇿🙏🏼
Thanks friend 🙏
Another awesome video, keeping real!
@@Where2nextWade thank you 🙏
The farm looks great 👌. You can tell on first glance how much effort you put into it and I like how much you appreciate the property owner for this oppertunity. Quick question what is the name of the tool you used to tilth the soil for your initial cover crop and how deep. Thank you and have a great day 😊
Thank you 🙏 it’s called the neversink iconoclast. I buy it from neversink tools.
I like your videos they are very informative
@@lysmalls658 thank you 🙏
Mikey Hustle getting it done!
Yeah buddy 🙌
Wow, I'm really looking forward to hearing all about this property, and it sounds like you scored with the landlord. What a great trade. Thanks for another informative video. I know it's extra work and putting it all together, editing, etc, takes time and effort. It is greatly appreciated.
Thanks! It’s such a cool place! There’s so much I didn’t show. Thanks for all your encouragement 🙏
Great deal!

Good stuff
Thank you 🙏
Loving this! New sub.
Thank you 🙏
👍👍
Thanks Mike!
I'd love to hear more about where/how you source compost and what kind of compost you are using. I have a real hard time finding quality compost in my area.
Yes! All compost is not created equal. I’m fortunate that I can get high quality manure based mushroom compost cheap. $500/20 yard load delivered. But moving forward I’m hoping to move more towards cover crops on this property. Because it’s a pain to get compost back there….
Brother, come to Austin Texas, I have 20 acres ready for production. Plenty of farmers markets, restaurants, and everything in between. We can make it big here.
Thank you 🙏 I think I have my hands full here 🤣
Hey just subbed. Your days look allot like mine:)
Awesome! Thanks for following along 🙏
Another awesome video, the farm looks great. Do you buy your cover crops seeds from anywhere specific or just where ever you find them?
Kinda wherever I can find what I’m looking for. I think I got the peas and oats mixed from Johnny’s. And mustard from Trueleaf.
I would be super interested in hearing what programs you are doing through NRCS. This is my first year going through them.
Awesome! I’ll plan to make a funding video soon!
Nice work! Was there someone else growing there before you? How much ground you adding on?
There was. A young lady several booths down from me at the market was growing there but she quit. And moved away. She had not taken good care of anything. Still working on cleaning it up. It’s about 60ft X 50ft .
Can’t complain about bonus sweaty shirtless content.
Heard that 🤣
@@chefsharvestfarm I vote shirtless all summer.
@@cortesleeper2968 there’s no point in wearing a shirt out here… 100 degrees and humid every day 🤦🏻♂️
How long do you leave the nets off to let the bees pollinate? I had a big problem with squash beetles last year and would like to try the hoop nets
I leave it off now
Hey man, I’m wondering if you ran into any issues with the NRCS putting high tunnels on your home property since it’s possibly considered residential? I’ve hesitated to pursue it since I’m not zoned ag but I grow in my back yard just like you.
No issues! But I would highly recommend walking into their office and talk to them directly. They will answer all of those types of questions for you.
@@chefsharvestfarm thank you so much!
That was really interesting, but do you think you could speak a bit quicker?
Thanks 🙏 I’ll work on it 🤣
Love your videos. Do you eat a lot of meat?
@@keithmoseley3744 thanks Keith! I appreciate your support 🙏 and yes I do! My neighbor at the market has the best chicken in town. I’ve actually lost about 50 lbs this year. I do exercise but I don’t lift weights. Just burpees, pushups, pull ups, etc. and I eat up to a dozen eggs per day, generally a piece of grilled chicken for lunch (no carbs during the day. And kinda just eat whatever, meat and veggies and carbs for dinner. I try to always make sure I eat more protein than anything else. And never eat anything with sugar.
@@chefsharvestfarm you are very welcome. Thank you for the response. Can I shoot you an email? I would love to give you a hand sometime and just learn. I sell firewood all over east tennessee and I am working on a prepared meal business. I know how busy you are but I thought I would just offer a hand if you needed it.
How can I get my farm funded? Please tell and share
@@lessycurls walk into your county USDA office and ask them (don’t call, don’t email) show up in person. This way they know you’re serious. A lot of people want “free money” but won’t do the work… if you show up in person. They know you’re for real. And just talk to them, a good place to start is the NRCS office (with the usda building). They fund high tunnels etc. I didn’t really know what I was asking for. But I just showed up and started a conversation… now they call me and ask me if I want more grants, and they’ve also asked me to be on their urban farming sub committee… but it all started by just walking into their office and starting a conversation with the lady at the desk.
Where do u get ur seeds from?
Lots of places. But mostly Johnny’s selected seeds
@@chefsharvestfarm thanks, are they ones u can reuse their seeds after planting?
Cuz sometimes I get some that are sprayed and I hate that
and a coolbot video thumbs up
Coming soon!
So you give the land owner the produce with the shortest shelf life, your leftovers, instead of the prime fresh picked stuff.
Heck yeah 🙌 win win for everyone! He loves it 💪 I even pay my chiropractor with veggies left from the market! Markets on Saturday and I’m usually at his place on Mondays. We typically harvest for the market on Wednesdays through Friday. Shelf life on my salad greens is typically 3-4 weeks. So hardly a disappointment! Sounds like you’re misunderstanding how great of a system it is for everyone! Just because something is leftover from the market doesn’t make it bad… I bring a refrigerated trailer to the market so everything stays cold. Helps me to move any left overs! And keeps him happy as could be! Thanks for watching 🙏
@@chefsharvestfarm 3 weeks on cut salad greens, yeah ok
@@theboringchannel2027 yes Sir! All day 💪 I heart hatters 🙌 thanks for being that guy!
@dawn19maria exactly! Salad greens are 2-3 weeks old before they even hit grocery stores shelves! People are so disconnected from their food, they have no clue 🤣 ignorance is bliss i guess 🤷🏻♂️
@dawn19maria when it comes to greens you do. Next time you are in a supermarket, look at use by date on the tubs of various greens. NONE of them are dated 3 weeks out. Usually 7-10 days at max, not 21 days.
Cut greens do not last 3 weeks as this guy claims they do., and while his might last a few more days than store bought,
they are not staying fresh for 3 weeks.
Stud
@@brianmb it’s a good looking dog for sure 👍 🤣🤣🤣💪💪💪
i wanna learn about the NRCS also.
Heck yeah! I will make funding videos soon! Probably over the winter when the garden is less exciting !
do you know where i can get drip irrigation for beds that are 100ft or longer? never done irrigation before. i looked at growers solution and farmers friend, and growers solution said dont use it for beds over 50ft. i have a big long field on my 30 acres, my beds can be over 120ft long, i have no idea what im doing haha
I get all my irrigation supplies from dripdepot.com. All my beds are 50 feet. So that’s all I have experience with. But you can always live chat with drip depot and they can help you find what you need. I don’t think they take phone calls anymore. But I used there live chat recently.
