Good of you to actually put a more “neutral” review and not saying pure garbage, by saying it’s better than the big brand name keyboards. Sometimes we enthusiasts bash too much on great keyboards (or any stuff in general) for the “masses” but not the “premium” we are looking for.
The big brand names have mostly just gone downhill over time. Either they tried new stuff with their software that somehow broke compatibility with the old stuff that's held up for 7+ years (though if you install a version that works with they keyboard and they still support, you can probably make one hell of a macro pad) or they tried too hard to gimmick, rather than focusing on making a good product.
@@DeisFortuna Sometimes that’s business. The product is already there and people are buying so why bother put more cost for very little gains? For us consumers, we think about what our gains are. Reminds me of micro motives and macro behavior.
@@hrd_beats7109 I feel like Hipyo here says something that most enthusiasts will not admit or most likely just ignore (I’m also partial for the blame here). What we all actually hope is that even the “big brands” up their standard (even just a little bit) so it’ll push the other “small or less famous brands” to also up their game, getting more competition in the industry, and eventually give more value for us as consumers.
At least they had a foam dampener but damn, all of that was already invented. They didn't contribute anything new to the OEM case other than neat keycaps.

im very late to the video but I think it is in reference to the face that is where the monitor is and the slogan is in reference to where the monitor is on the keyboard. I think that its in reference to dress well test well. or in this case look cool play cool.
On a keyboard made for gamers, if they do replace the keycaps, there's a pretty good chance they'll be OEM profile, and the North facing isn't a problem. It's also not unlikely that they'll want shine-through caps, in which case the north facing is a benefit. The only place north facing is a problem is for fairly thick cherry profile caps (GMK), so if you're doing a keyboard with full RGB, you've got a decision to make. Worse RGB for shine-through, or incompatibility with a small percentage of keycaps. I might be biased, since I'm not really a fan of cherry profile anyway, but if I was designing a full RGB board, I'd probably go north facing, too. If not RGB, then I go south facing for GMK compatibility.
I eventually gave up on shine-through caps, because all the caps had north legends, and all the decent boards had south LEDs. So instead, I went for really pretty opaque caps with spherical tops and big friendly center-aligned legends, like a nice PBT DSA set with a silver plate for bright outlines, and a deeper clone of MG Monster because it's gorgeous and the deep cups feel great. The lighting incompatibility basically sent me down a rabbit hole for ergonomics instead.
1:52 imo this makes north facing LEDs slightly less excusable because the cool keycaps don't even have shine through so why do you need north facing LEDs?? There is no way people are going to replace those keycaps with shittier shine through ones so it just makes 0 sense
I would 100% replace those keycaps with shine-through. There is zero point to LED lighting on a keyboard if it's not going to let you type in the dark. I don't care what you think about fashion, looks, or astetics. Function is always inherently superior to aesthetics when it comes to form.
I have a huge issue with the keycap art. They went with the 3 main colors you would use to highlight legends... black, white, and red. If they use white. So they couldnt stick with one legend color or else you wouldnt see some. But the /? key you cant even see the legend print. Same for the keys used for [ ] ; ' they all look like trash. You legit cant evens see the legends and they just said "fuck it that looks fine".
They probably couldn't just make it south facing since the case is just an rk68 and the hot swap sockets and mounting holes interfere with the case standoffs. They'd have to get custom case molds and didn't go the extra step. Source: Made my own pcb and had to go north facing :3
I've been falling down the keyboard rabbit hole, lately, and it's funny to me how most of the "bad" mechanical keyboards folks like Hipyo and Glarses review sound way, way better than I've used before. Then again, right now I'm using a GameStop branded outemu brown keyboard that's tape/foam modded with Dye Sub keycaps, so my standards aren't very high, haha.
i felt this on a spiritual level. I've only recently changed the outemu brown switches on my kb to akko lavender purples and it already sounds so good to me. But I bet the more experienced MKB hobbyists would still cringe at how it sounds 😂

Idea: use the hot swappability of this thing and a switch tester to mod this thing to be super cursed. Every key is a different switch. Go as different in feel as you can get for each key as possible to make it feel as cursed as you can. Find a way to get Optical switches in there somehow, if that's even electrically possible. Throw in one first gen Kailh low profile switch with some kind of 3D printed adapter for normal keycaps instead of foam modding and stuff. Okay, maybe do this to a different keyboard instead, but I wanna see the cursed switch tester keyboard, and I'm too broke to make the keyboard myself. And if this kind of thing took off... I'd 100% get pigeonholed in as the cursed keyboard gal.
@@zelan9155 make sure it's their first try at the low profiles, not the new ones. I haven't heard anything good about the originals, so that's bound to make it more cursed. Anyways, I have even more ideas. Like putting one of the actually good low profile switches on there. Maybe make the two into F and J as some really cursed indicators if you use caps meant for low profile switches.
@6:42 The keycaps with white on them look like there might be a printing defect. The background gray flecks on the /? key look especially distorted vertically around the sides. I like the idea for the keycap design, but the execution looks like a mess. Edit: Looking at it again from above makes me think that the printing may have been designed to look good only from directly above. They could get away with it in marketing photos, but it would look garbage at eye level once someone bought it. I wish that you had shots that were more in focus (unless that's just how the print looks? I don't know anymore) so I could tell whether the printed flecks were supposed to look like square pixels or round dots.
Oh man I thought that I might have been one of the few to have what I consider a modified programming/markup language home row. For stock though, those stabs are better than Razer or Corsair. Objectively speaking, they can easily be a good brand. Just do a south-facing PCB, use better cases, stabilizers and add some case foam. They're a mile away from Keychron and KBDFans still, but they can get there. Also, I'm no 100T simp, I never watch them because I mostly play Apex. I just want to see more competition in the more mainstream and/or budget keyboard market.
3:43 I have that same keyswitch/ca puller and it sucks. The switch puller side is fine i Guess, but the cap puller is awful. its way too stiff together and its impossible to pull a keycap with that thing. Pro Gamer Hipyo! I've been too busy with my graduate coursework to join you. I hope that you are doing well, sir!
north facing LEDs arent really an L here considering its marketed towards gamers so if they wanna switch out the keycaps (yes that wouldnt make sense) then rgb shine through would be priority
Bruh I’ve watched so many of your vids when I close my eyes I see spinning hippos with keyboards XD

Are you actually a marketing major?
This is a certified Atrioc GH Ewing classic.
There is a good chance hipyo sees this. Hi hipyo 👋
Anyone can tell me what is wrong with North facing LEDs with hot swappable? I'm about to buy a keyword with such combo but I can't figure out what's the problem he referring to
I really dont understand why they went for north facing leds when their keycaps are neither transparent nor are the legends printed on the top
They can literally hire someone in the community and they would know what people want and would consider enthusiast
Pro Gamer Hipyo ftw!!!
Highground... Lowquality! Ayyyy!
looks like the tesoro keycaps I used to have from an old newegg keyboard
Oh o get the slogan, look better up here, in the high ground, with that keyboard
tbh I like north facing leds, though with keycaps like those it makes no sense to have them north-facing
I don't see what the issue is, it's a 135 custom keyboard what more did you expect?
