I actually bought the book and read it with this version of the cast recording and I ended up actually crying in my bed and my sister asked if I was alright because I was full on sobbing.
Another fun fact: when Whizzer comes out in a white shirt at the end, it shows how Marvin is already forgetting little things about him, such as the color of his shirt
OHH I GET IT NOW, i heard someone say how he was wearing the same hting he wore in the beginning of the musical, but i was like "that's not the same shirt, wdym" but dang that's sad
6:38 This little moment makes me so emotional. Up until here, everyone is saying things like “Whizzer you look great!”, “I’ll make you well” and Whizzer is kind of just barely putting on a brave face and saying “right”, “sure”, but Jason just straight up says “gee you look awful” and Whizzer actually laughs. Not like he’s trying to humor anyone, but because Jason’s sincerity in the face of everyone trying to fake normality is just so priceless. Holy fuck, It’s the little things that make this my absolute favorite musical.
It gets me cause it's just such a kid thing to do. It shows how much Jason hasn't learned yet and it breaks my heart to know that he will have to learn so much so quickly
At the end of Act 1 I had the opportunity to do that because she asked if it ended already. But I didn't. I made my mom suffer till the end because I'm a monster.
I have to say that as a queer Jewish woman whose native language is Hebrew... this musical hits even harder. I am also of the opinion that it has some of the best music out of all musicals out there because the composition is actually genius and vastly underrated
@@fancyfangcrossing2781 Bill Finn has actually said that part of it is from what he recited at his own bar mitzvah, but he got a little lazy with the writing at this part and just threw in random Hebrew words, so its essentially gibberish (besides aba/father, which was intentional)
The part I uncontrollably cry is when jason puts the chess piece on his grave from when Whizzer was in the hospital, also another fun fact, the reason why whizzed doesn’t want Jason to let him win is because that’s the reason Marvin broke up with him.
6:26 it’s also probably to show the reality of the disease. 12:12 notice how they aren’t holding each other. to show that they can longer be with each other because of whizzers death. 13:05 I don’t see much people talking about this but the chess piece jason puts on whizzers gravestone is actually a king.
Also, I saw someone comment on another video that all of Marvin and Whizzer’s act 1 songs are written in 3/4 (thrill of first love, chess game etc). It compares their relationship to a waltz with a sense of ‘dancing’ around each other etc. Then I thought about You Gotta Die Sometime, and I wondered if that was in 3/4 too, because if it is then it symbolises Whizzer dancing with death.

I think it’s the latter. He just lost Whizzer, he’s grieving, and he cannot comprehend why this has happened to them. It’s a "we’re supposed to get what we deserve but how the hell do we deserve this“ type of situation, imo. They went from happy and in love to dying and grieving in a heartbeat, their whole world got turned upside down. So the me that’s very much a "what the hell universe?!" instead of a "how did I get so lucky?" statement. 9:26 i tried to see what he said and it looks like what he's saying is "is this *mine*?" marvin brushes the fabric away from whizzer's hands, sighs in defeat fondly, and replies, "...yeah, it is."
8:08 waitwaitwaitwait it never occurred to me that Marvin also had it??? I mean I guess it's because he didn't get sick in the musical but still this makes it even 103% sadder (edit: can anyone confirm this? :D)
ive always assumed that it was heavily implied. im not sure how accurately they wrote the timeline to be but based on how long it took aids to kill you when it was first discovered; whizzer wouldve contracted it pre act one and unknowingly give it to marvin during their first relationship, and it would take a few more years for marvin to die from it
Honestly, I thought that Whizzer was with someone else in the two years they were apart and then got it. Although, Marvin probably contracted it from Whizzer either way.
Yea I saw this thing that sayed that Marvin doesn’t remember whizzer’s last outfit so he made it up in what would I do, and loss of memory is a symptom of AIDS. Also in the 1990’s version when Charlotte says that it spreads from one man to another he says fuck or something and leaves the stage which doesn’t really make sense if he’s talking about whizzer because they literally just told him he is going to die, but would make sense if he’s worried about himself.
don’t know if this is a common theory but I just thought: the hors d’ouevres line in YGDS links/foreshadows Whizzer dying shortly after the bar mitzvah(Cordelia brings some to the bar mitzvah), but in YGDS it implies it’ll be on his own terms, almost at his leisure. Also when Mendel sings ‘son of...’ he does it in order of the people who came into Jason’s life. Marvin and Trina, then Whizzer, then himself.
Ok but like did anyone else notice when Whizzer tells Jason not to let him win. I feel like he’s saying that because when Marvin let him win he lost Marvin, so maybe he’s afraid of losing Jason

It's been a year and some months since I saw Falsettos randomly airing at 2 a.m. I had no clue what it was and I watched it because I though "oh, fun" . I am NEVER going to bee over my baby Whizzer.
I haven't cried in almost 2 years. This video broke that streak; thank you. This musical hits home for me in two different ways. The first being a gay man and knowing how much the AIDS epidemic shook our community ranging from stories from queer elders to art pieces to photographs. The second is a little more personal. When I was eleven, my best friend's mom (and my mom's best friends funnily enough) was diagnosed with cancer. My mother saw the decline in her health firsthand. One day, we got the news that she had pneumonia as well as the cancer. She didn't last a night. I had never truly experienced death before and I hear my sobs from that day echoed in Marvin's at the end and see my thoughts racing through Jason's mind.
2:31 that one woman cheering for jason loudly gets all of my tears 😭 i love how in every falsettos vid everyone always includes the ending of a day in falsettoland 5:33 because they didn't get solos in act one
Thinking about how whizzer tells Jason not to let him win bc the last time he did that Marvin let him win and it ended with them breaking up but Jason does it anyways because whizzer needs it and he thinks that it’s going to cheer him up

I keep hurting myself with that last song but I love this show so much. It's getting filed away under "Musicals to watch when you want to ugly cry"
omg this made me cry thank you-
2:12 YOU STOP THAT RIGHT NOW
BRO STOP TELLING ME TO LOOK AT ANDREW’S FACE I CAN’T DO THIS ANYMORE 😭😭
Edit: spelling Bc I’m small brain
everytime i watch part 2 videos i’m like nope not gonna cry this time and everytime i can’t stop crying
i think the "fun" facts were making it more sad lowkey :''')
Fun fact: I didn’t cry the first time I saw this musical but I very much cried every other time I’ve seen it.
Ty I needed this emotional release
DTOP I DIDNT KNOW I WAS GONNA START CRYING EVEN THO I KNEW U WOULD PUT THAT PART
It's been a year and some months since I saw Falsettos randomly airing at 2 a.m. I had no clue what it was and I watched it because I though "oh, fun" .
I am NEVER going to bee over my baby Whizzer.
I haven't seen the musical but I was crying by the end of this- dhdh
i have never seen the musical and im crying over this video
Cordelia just mouthing “OMG” while tapping Charlotte to stop Marvin from grabbing Whizzer’s hair makes me giggle 😭😭
I'M NOT CRYING IN THE MIDDLE OF CLASS MY EYES ARE JUST SWEATING
I never realized the line where she says that marvin has it too
O fuck i'm crying
WHY IS IT ALWAYS THE GOD DAMN CHESS PIECE AT THE END THAT GETS ME-
4:34 UNCALLED FOR 😭☠️
2:31 that one woman cheering for jason loudly gets all of my tears 😭
i love how in every falsettos vid everyone always includes the ending of a day in falsettoland
5:33 because they didn't get solos in act one
Thinking about how whizzer tells Jason not to let him win bc the last time he did that Marvin let him win and it ended with them breaking up but Jason does it anyways because whizzer needs it and he thinks that it’s going to cheer him up
ok now i need to rewatch falsettos
I wasn't expecting Mendel's pointing at the beginning and I am immediately *s h o o k e d*
