Great little tester brew. I’m just getting into small batch extract myself so thank you for the ideas and inspiration!

I love both kveik, its a game-changer, and extract brewing which is my main method besides kits. When using kveik, if you keep the bottles at fermentation temperature, or thereabouts, the bottles carb in a day or two.

Yes, it certainly is a game changer. Looking forward to using it more in the summer when it's easier to hold the temperature.

When I used to brew exclusively extract brews, I struggled with finding a way to get very light colored beers. They always came out golden or darker, even when using extra light dme. I found if you only add about 1/4 (or less) of your extract at the beginning of the boil to isomerize your hops, and add the rest at 10 minutes remaining, your beer will come out lighter in color. The longer you boil malt extract, the more caramelization you get and the darker they become in my experience.

Very interesting I'd always wondered if 2 bags of DME could make a decent brew. Thanks

Interesting experiment. The kveik yeast is definitely all the rage now. All the other UA-camrs I've seen use it have kegged and force carbonated it. I did wonder how it would work out for bottle conditioning.
Glad it turned out OK in the end 👍

Great video! The beer looks and sounds tasty. I use DME almost exclusively in all my extract / partial mash brews. I have some tricks like prepping the late DME addition in a separate pot in just enough water to make a slurry. I then heat that up gently before adding it to the main pot at the end of the boil. It's loosely-based on the John Palmer Extract Method.
Basic Brewing has some great 15-minute ale videos using DME too. Cheers!

Thanks, it's great fun experimenting. I'll take another look at Palmer's How to Brew and will check out Basic Brewing. I'm sure I can do better with my extract brews, so will stick with it. Cheers!

This is just what i was looking for! Ive got roughly 1.5kg of differnt DME just lay around, no idea why i have tjis much left over from different brews...
I was woundering if i could just use this to make beer, i saw no reason why it wouldn't work.
Cheers for the video mate, ill do this! Ive got a 10l keg king junior not doing anything right now so ill add all my hops at boil and pre fermentation (not ideal but i dont have away of adding co2 aside from co2 cartridges for serving) and pressure ferment and serve directly.
Ill let you know how it turns out in month!

@@pauldonohue7536 no reason why not, I’ve made some great beers with Dme. A bit of steeped grain makes a difference if you have any left over. Good luck and hope it turns out well. Cheers for the sub. 🍻

Thanks a lot. I've brewed an Extract bitter, Festival American IPA and a Tribute all grain...not typical Christmas beers but it's just the way it worked out this year. Not sure they'll last till Christmas but here's to hoping...Cheers!

I’ve tried a similar brew, though I added some oats for a bit of body. I’d be delighted to try a bottle.

Yeah I definitely think some grains of some kind are worth the little extra effort in extract brews. I'd be happy to drop a bottle in the post if you send me your address. You can get my email address from the About section on the channel. Cheers!

Another great video! I find that fermenting with Kveik yeast dries the beer out so much that I makes bottle conditioning less effective. Kegging the same beer might have better results for carbonation.

Thanks for watching and commenting. That's interesting. There definitely seems to be a few extra considerations when using kveik yeast. Cheers

Would you take this approach again if you forced carb in a corny? I have a load of kit and kilo kits to get through around AG brews and considering using Kveik to speed things up

    • @G-townbrewer
      @G-townbrewer  2 роки тому +1

I don't use cornys, but I don't see why not. Sounds like a good way of turning round round a few kits.

To ferment my beer I use a 50w fish tank heater with a digital readout and setting approx £14 from Amazon. another cracker of a video 👍
