Hazy Verdant IPA | Extract Brewing

- Here I brew a hazy Verdant IPA using malt extract (extra light dry malt extract and wheat dry malt extract), a mini mash (pale ale malt and flaked oats), and hops (Citra, Amarillo and Nelson Sauvin hops). Extract brewing is considered by many as a stepping stone between extract beer kits and all grain brewing but this brew was as good as any all grain brew I've done. Super hoppy, very smooth, and really tasty.
Recipe:
Malts (800 g)
400 g (17.4%) - Oats, Flaked - Grain - 2 EBC
400 g (17.4%) - Muntons Pale Ale Malt - Grain - 6.3 EBC
Other (1.5 kg)
1 kg (43.5%) - Extra Light Dry Extract - Dry Extract - 5.9 EBC
500 g (21.7%) - Wheat Dry Extract - Dry Extract - 15.8 EBC
Hops (150 g)
13 g (8 IBU) - Amarillo 9.2% - Boil - 10 min
13 g (11 IBU) - Citra 12% - Boil - 10 min
13 g (11 IBU) - Nelson Sauvin 12% - Boil - 10 min
12 g - Amarillo 9.2% - Dry Hop - 7 days
12 g - Citra 12% - Dry Hop - 7 days
12 g - Nelson Sauvin 12% - Dry Hop - 7 days
25 g - Amarillo 9.2% - Dry Hop - 2 days
25 g - Citra 12% - Dry Hop - 2 days
25 g - Nelson Sauvin 12% - Dry Hop - 2 days

Looks and sounds like a great beer cheers 👍🍻
Thanks Rick. It turned out a decent beer. Cheers! 🍻🍻
Really good! I like how you’ve really explained that it’s essential with this style of beer to really be careful with oxidation. I did 2 last summer and one was oxidised straight away the other took time but went the same. But this year I squeezed the air out of the bottles and reduced a few of the adjuncts. 100% the yeast helps with that smell, I’ve used verdant the last 3 tropical beers I’ve done and it’s the same!! Great job mate
Thanks for watching and commenting. I'm really looking forward to more brews with the Yerdant yeast. Cheers!
Hi Happy New year, looks like a cracking drink for the summer time, never used the verdant yeast before, keep on Brewing 🍺👍
Happy New Year to you too. You should give the Verdant yeast a try, it's definitely an interesting one. Cheers!
I'm so happy to see a brewing video featuring Verdant IPA yeast! Even enjoyed one of my Verdant Pale Ales (4.5% abv) while watching it! I love this yeast. First heard of it in (of all things) an English Dark Mild recipe by esteemed author/podcaster Drew Beechum of Experimental Brewing. Then dts1953 posted a video where he visited the Verdant Brewery and I put 2 & 2 together. Cheers and Best Wishes for a Safe & Happy New Year!🍺🍻
Thanks for the comments Skid - interesting and informative as usual. I will definitely be experimenting more with the Verdant yeast, you're Verdant Pale Ale sounds intriguing. Happy New Year and cheers!
Hi G, sounds like a great summer ale if the ABV is dumd down a bit. I will definitely be giving this a go. Good job, and as always, very informative videos.
Thanks for watching and kind comments. Definitely worth a go, it's a an excellent beer!
Have tried the Verdant yeast but to be honest didn't notice any big difference. I'm more interested in giving the wheat DME a go. Haven't tried that yet. Great to see you experimenting. That's the beauty of homebrewing. There are no boundaries!
Thanks mate. The wheat DME is a great addition. I've used it as the extra fermentable on "one can kits" such as a Pale and it works a treat. I videoed a brew a while back doing exactly that - think it was the Marylin's Secret vid.
Hi I just subscribed to your channel. Thanks for the review. I have been brewing extract for the past 12months and would like to try to take the next step. I think this brew is a good place to start. Just a couple of questions please: where did you buy the kit, how much was it and does it come in a bigger batch that will fill a corny keg? Thanks
Thanks for the sub. It's not a kit beer, I bought the ingredients separately to suit this recipe. If you wanted to make a bigger batch, I would suggest punching the recipe into some brewing software like BrewFather and using the scale button to scale up the recipe to 19L. Good luck!
I like the sound of this one if it an’t broken
