  • 💥RACE FINISH💥
    Team Atlanticrowmad 🇬🇧
Today, on Tuesday 20th February at 23:29 local time, Team Atlantic Rowmad, with Jamie Howard onboard his boat ‘Aoife’ finished his 3,000 mile crossing in a time of 69 days, 17 hours and 56 minutes coming in as our 35th boat overall. Jamie had a perfect approach to the island where family including his two young granddaughters were up late to get their first glimpse of a truly amazing arrival of their grandad. 😊
Jamie experienced and witnessed rowers coming into English harbour in 2019, where a seed was planted - he simply knew that he had to do it one day. As we have seen within the race, Jamie, aged 67 at race start, has proven that, regardless of age, this challenge is possible if you have the right mindset. On top of that Jamie also suffers from AS (a chronic arthritic condition) that has resulted in fusing Jamie’s neck and lower spin.
Jamie’s boat ‘Aoife’ arrived into English Harbour with two holes made by a hungry Marlin who caused the damage at the end of January. Jamie was able to fix the damage to the boat and keep calm - making it possible for him to continue his journey towards the finish line👏🏼
When asked about his immediate feeling, Jamie said, “It does not really feel real. It feels a bit like an out-of-body experience. I never thought I would get here until I turned the corner, so I am pleased to be here, to be honest!” When asked whether the race lived up to its name, Jamie said, “It is very, very tough, and it is a long way. I probably would not have done it had I known how tough it was! It is a life-changing experience like a retreat - a bit of a re-set!”
You did it, Jamie! You are now a member of a special club of like-minded, inspirational individuals who cross oceans in very small boats powered by oars! ✊🏼
