  • 💥RACE FINISH💥
    Team She ROARS🇿🇦
Today on Saturday 17th February at 10:25 local time, Leanne Maiden crossed the finish line of the World’s Toughest Row in a time of 66 days and 5 hours, arriving as this years 32nd boat and becoming the first South African woman to row across any ocean solo 🇿🇦
Family and friends waited together with cheering crowds at the dockyard. Excited to be reunited with their Mum, Leanne’s two sons Ruaridh and Blair, held hands with their dad as their mum rowed closer to land. As Leanne expressed in a recent video posted on her socials, they are the only two humans on earth she wanted to inspire - showing them that if you are determined you can achieve anything.
Many more have been inspired, Leanne!
Leanne originally signed up three years ago in a four woman team, but arrived at the start line as a solo. This made the journey challenging and hard, but nevertheless she started December 13th with her head held high and hungry for the adventure of a lifetime. 😅
When asked about whether the race lived up to its name, Leanne said, “It is tough. There were good days, there were bad days. I was thinking a lot about this - this is not a rowing challenge, it’s a challenge of the human spirit. It strips you down and leaves you exposed and there you find your toughness.” Leanne then told us of being alone on the ocean: “I spoke to the ocean the whole time and to Mother Nature, from one mother to another. I tried to change the weather and I used some bad language when coming around the cliffs out there in the difficult conditions, so the Atlantic is probably glad to see the back of me!” We are just glad to see you, Leanne😊

Amazing achievement! I can’t even imagine the level of physical fitness required for this. Just read about this story on BBC’s webpage, but can’t believe there aren’t more videos on UA-cam reporting on this.
