  • This assembly table is built to keep everything I used most often close at hand while building and finishing! It has a "rough" side where I keep common tools, screws, clamps, joinery aids, etc.. the "finish" side carries finishes, brushes, cloths, stand offs, paint sprayers, etc. And each end holds a lot of clamps or the power tools I constantly use, my drill, driver, and brad nailer!

    I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.

    I think I've watched about fifty workbench build videos over the last couple of weeks, and this one is by far my favorite. Love your use of built in storage, the t-tracks, and nice finishing touches without making a monster of a workbench. I'll be buying a set of these plans; thanks!

    Each time I consider a DIY project it turns out more expensive than ready to use, mass products. I bet this one is not an exception.

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  5 років тому +1

      Yes and no. If you have to buy tools for every project, that raises cost.. but you have to spread that cost among every project it can do - not the one where you bought it for. There’s also the quality consideration. I could find used cabinets and a door for free on the side of the road, or buy ready made that’s stamped steel or chip board that won’t survive a move. But that’s like comparing a pocket knife to a chefs knife. There’s also that this is exactly what I wanted, and nobody makes it. So I can make it far cheaper than hiring a custom shop to make it for me - because that’s the only way to buy it. If you try to DIY exactly why you can buy, and you’re fine with one time use quality, then you’re right - it doesn’t make sense to DIY. But if you want something that has the potential to last your lifetime, and be what you want that can’t be found on a shelf - then it’s huge savings compared to custom work with quality material.

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  5 років тому

      The dados were a snug fit though, and I’d still have to tape them off or clean out the finish so the track would fit. To me it seemed easier to tape the track and then finish, the tracks aren’t glued in place at all.

    • @hj8607
      @hj8607 5 років тому +1

      Had not thought of finish buildup. (I use two medium coats of shellac for a 100% seal (no thickness ) and top off with medium spray of lacquer for hard durability (no roll over). But varnish or urethane finishing (as most use) would impede an already snug insert placement.
      Thanks again for great ideas .

    Late to the party, and not sure how I missed this video when it came out. Awesome build with 1/2" ply which is surely lighter and cheaper than the 3/4 option. How is it holding up? I was curious about the torsion box base which seems thin (smaller width ribs compared to most) and if it has sagged over time.

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  5 років тому

      Thanks! So I’ve had two downsides. First is it will twist and keep drawers from opening IF I don’t use the feet to keep it level. If I level it off, everything is fine. Second is the lifting caster has pulled out of the corner that I had to just screw into. Should’ve bolted it. Screws just don’t hold in 1/2” that take a lot of pulling force.

    Sehr schönes Video und natürlich eine ganz klasse Werkbank die Du Dir gebaut hast. Mich würde mal interessieren wie zufrieden Du mit deinem Werkzeug von Ridgid bist? Ich nutze Bosch Werkzeug und bin zufrieden. Leider gibt es Ridgid nicht hier in D.

      Thank you. I have some Bosch tools and like them a lot, but I prefer Ridgid. But I think Ridgid is only available in America. I like Ridgid because of the warranty, also I sold Ridgid tools when I was college and worked at Home Depot, so I came to like them early.

    i notice your tablesaw has no guard and no splitter no anti kickback... do you have any problems with it? I have a Craftsman 100 with 4 cast iron extensions but everyone tells me its not safe because like your saw it does not have any safety features. What do you think?

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  5 років тому +1

      It’s not ideal, and there are aftermarket splitters you can use. I’ve had some kickback, always my fault... but that’s the problem, humans are faulty and fault aside, the danger at a table saw is super high. But so far, I’ve found being safety conscious has kept me safe for now, though I do plan on getting a saw stop when I’m able. Risk and safety are personal choices, I will say if you’re not super familiar with how and why things go bad on a table saw, get very smart - because the only safety feature is between your ears. That would be my only warning, more safet features are better because people make mistakes. But if you don’t understand kickback, and aren’t going to learn, then a rudimentary saw is a tragedy waiting to happen.

    I’m late to the party. But thank you for the video. Do you have rough cost of this build ?

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  5 років тому

      About $200 for lumber. If you use drawer slides, the t track, casters, etc.. about $400.

    Hi, most of the tee tracks that I have seen are almost 1/2" deep, as you used 1/2" plywood how did you attach the tee trake?

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  6 років тому

      For the top I used 3/4” and the track is 3/8” deep. I used #8 1/2” screws and the tips just barely poked through the bottom.

    Hello, I just watched this build video. I have question about the shims used on that bottom drawer @ 4:21. Will this shimming method help when your drawer is slightly out of square?

    • @YouCanMakeThisToo
      @YouCanMakeThisToo  5 років тому

      It could, but you would have to shim between the drawer and the slide. The slides must be parallel to each other. My problem was the case was slightly out of square, but my drawers were square.

      Just CA glue and activator. That was just to hold them until I could add screws from inside.
