I've never had a #workbench that I've truly loved. Mostly b/c I didn't have the room. Well, I'm righting that wrong and building my ultimate workbench. Lots of function, lots of storage. Nice big surface. Everything that I need.

I bought this for my friend for his birthday as we just moved into a new house and he finally has room for a workshop. The bench was very easy to set up ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxyFZUPFEey-PuqsPMxqaykBhgA1LWxFHh They center support is a little difficult to snap in and out of place at first but at least then we know the bench is secure. It was a pleasant surprise when we saw it came with clamps. I apparently missed that in the description. My friend loves the versatility of the bench. Great starter bench for his workshop and easily transportable all over our property. I wish the bench was a little taller but the other features of the bench more than make up for that.
This was perfect as a vanity desk for me. ua-cam.com/users/postUgkxMAlHv7-BBWMrPRm5-uEoD6rtdT7SG2Qr Especially the glossy finish. Easy to cleanI was looking for something that wasn't the traditional white and with more of a modern feel. This fit the bill beautifully. I put it together with no problems, by myself in under an hour.Make sure you double check where you place the drawer tracks before screwing down. I had one track that needed to be aligned with different holes than the rest.
This workbench has been one of the more useful things I’ve built. The combo of a ridiculous amount of storage plus the workholding capabilities have made it the cornerstone of my shop. Yours looks great!
I hate mine.
JK. so far it's been really useful, and I've barely even begun to load it up.
I built my workbench based on Johnny’s plan, but with a Paulk style top. It’s awesome! Thanks Johnny
That piece on “just go buy it” was amazing. Really good perspective on what point in the supply chain you chose to invest your money.
I actually thought it was misguided and patronizing. It didn't bother me that much but when someone argues that taking one step back in a supply chain is the right move, arguing that it is the equivalent of going to the beginning of said chain is rather fatuous.
I was actually waiting on him to explain why he bought the intersection kits instead of cutting them himself. He took a rather large step from "cutting the intersection kits yourself" to "making your own aluminum". One intersection kit is $25 bucks on Rockler's website. That's over $300 dollars on just t-track intersections. Geez....
That being said, I do agree that sometimes you come out on top just going and buy a product instead of taking an abnormal amount of time trying to make something you don't know how to make (example: buying an overpriced router lift system instead of trying to machine it on a mill and lathe).
Been going through the deep tracks at night to wind down. Your old content, writing, shootings, etc... was really really good. How you've managed to get better is kind of mind numbing.
I cant believe you cut off the parts explaining the aluminum extrusion process, i was taking notes!!!!
Sorry man. Yesterday it was all fun and games in the comments. Everybody got the joke. Today I've gotten a few messages where people thought I was serious and that I shouldn't tell them to "just go buy it" - to those people I say, have fun spending millions of dollars and a lifetime producing your T-track :)
@@Foureyes.Furniture Lee Valley sells 1/4 inch or 5/16 inch T tracks in 4-foot lengths, for less than the Kreg or Rockler T tracks! I'm Canadian, so my usual default is to first check Lee Valley prices & availability. I really like your channel! Cheers.
@John Malecki and @Chris Salomone should definitely do a collaboration build!
The "Make your own Aluminum" part was my favourite!
I couldn't help myself
@@Foureyes.Furniture I hit like on the video right when you started the mining explanation. Best trolling of the trolls ever!
Also, well done on reaching 300K UA-cam subscribers, Chris - well deserved!
Love the fact that UA-camrs continue to support each other. Get hands Dirty! Love the build. I feel so inspired!
Yeah, Cris is awesome. And I'll support anybody who gives me a shirt :)
Been watching Chris for a long time and truly appreciate the simplicity and quality of every video! He’s been an inspiration for me starting my own channel as well. Any support would be awesome!
Awesome video Chris. Your style is so clean and clear. Thank you for sharing. "Just go buy it." Priceless
I'll save the full tutorial for my next video "DIY aluminum T-Tracks: from quarry to workbench"
I love seeing stickers, t-shirts, and UA-cam creators in videos, especially when I already follow those people. Share the love y'all!
"scrap plywood" and "baltic birch" being in the same context makes me itch. That stuff is too expensive and beautiful to ever be scrap. ;)
Outstanding! My grandpa would always say, "You're going to make mistakes. Enhance those mistakes and learn from them." Great project, great video!!
Grandpa was a smart guy :)
Gotta love Chris's sense of humor😂 it's the best!
This look's amazing!
What I most appreciate about your style is that you always add an aesthetic, even if only minimally. Probably 99% of people don't bother giving work tables or other shop infrastructure paint or finish. They leave all raw. But something being functional shouldn't mean it shouldn't have flare. It kind of drives me crazy how many makers, especially who specialize in aesthetic furniture or other pieces, are completely utilitarian about their shop space.
Yeah I know. In our videos my dad doesn't always like the aesthetics but I don't mind spending the time doing the detail work!
Thanks Jacky. I was always going to paint the stripes. I wasn't sure if I'd put on finish...but then I wanted finish for the top, and I didn't want it mismatched, so it made sense to finish the drawers, etc...
I seriously lol’d when you started telling us how to make our own aluminum T track. Great video Chris. Keep up the fantastic work.
Great choice on making the bottom drawers larger. I am sure that will come in handy more times than you expect in the future.
Hi Chris,
This week i started boulding my new workbench/sawbench based on your workbench/ outfeedtable.
Thanks for the insperation.
Stay healthy
Nice assembly table, but are you feeling okay? There are 90° angles EVERYWHERE.
haha...I actually was sick for the entire second half of this build :)
@@Foureyes.Furniture I hope you're feeling better now.
Hahahaha !!!!!
@@Foureyes.Furniture Yeah, We can tell from your voice.
looks great. Im off to mine some ore now
Best looking workbench I've seen!
I just love how the woodworking community promotes and support each other :)
Heck yeah....rising tides :)
Chris's videos are some of the most satisfying, educating, zen, and useful videos I've ever seen. I don't own 1% of what he does and I already can't wait to have a shop and become a maker.
Thanks Mark...appreciate the kind words :)
you can store tons of stuff into that table. Very good job!!
So those Woodpecker tools must be pretty great to be able to measure ant whiskers. Nice!
unfortunately they are only accurate down to two ant whiskers :P
@@Foureyes.Furniture Aw nuts. I guess I'll have to keep looking... ;)
I just love your sarcasm!!! And of course your builds are top of the top as usual, but not in a boring kind of way ;) 🤘🏼
That's an awesome idea with the color combination, I like how its a simple strip offset to the left pf the drawer, nice build!
Thanks :) appreciate it
Nice project, great editing, keep uploading .. loved seeing the GET HANDS DIRTY T-Shirt, great channel. You need your own merch too.
I have shirts...but I don't sell them. Just give them out as "thank yous" for the patreon supporters.
I hate how gorgeous this table looks! By 'hate', I mean envious! Thank you for taking the time to document & share. Your aesthetics and purpose driven approach are valuable & refreshing. Beyond function you have left room for a delight. Like science decided to give art a hug (or vice versa). Kudos & Hi-5s!
Great video Chris!!
Love the Get Hands Dirty Tee.
And the bench, great vid.
Came for the shirt, stayed for the furniture :)
Such snark! Love it! Nice bench.
The new workshop looks so well insulated.
Yeah, it's not too bad. I'd say slightly less well insulated than your typical house. Luckily the average temperature here this time of year is in the low 70s...so not much to complain about :-)
Love the t track part!
This video actually made me want to build a workbench ... And, for this shop-project-hating UA-camr, that says a lot....
I'm one of those too...but sometimes you just need to build things for the shop :)
Awesome build
Yay! Frank Howarth's style animation, pretty cool!
My word!!!! Wish I could do that kind of stuff in our videos!
yup. Howarthing as I coined it in my last video :)
I kept looking for the little squeaky cantilever clamp to put in an appearance! :)
Excellent! Great video.
I really like the idea to nest a cart inside the workbench!
yeah...now the only thing left to do is build a cart :)
10/10 will recommend this video solely because of the "Mining Aluminum Ore" Bit. Bravo.
hehe...thanks Jon :)
I just wanted to come back to this video and say I know the Bauxite thing was a joke, and it was funny, but I have since seen that word in a number of places and would not have known what it was so thanks for that random bit of knowledge :)
Very nice, Chris! I like the push-to-open drawers!
Thanks! Me too...they've been working really well so far :)
Get hands dirty! ♥️ Great build as always.
Cris is the best :)
Que ideia excelente pra uma extençao da mesa da serra de bancada, parabens
Couldn't find a boxite mine on Amazon, guess I'll buy t-tracks
Check out Alibaba :P
Nice work!
How did you know I needed to look at making a new workbench? Mind reader you are, Chris. Love the video as always, really easy to follow and entertaining.
I knew you'd say that :)
Very neat table.
Cheers
Tim from Wood 4 Nothing
I like how your video's are so calm and that your always friendly and encouraging. So important for us extreme amateurs who are just building confidence. Keep it up!
Hey Marc...thank you! I really appreciate that comment. I tend to dwell on the negative comments even though the bulk are positive. And a lot of my videos are aimed at (hopefully) teaching people who are just getting into this, and (hopefull) giving them some confidence and excitement about building...so thank you for that :)
The tracks for clamping are a great idea, considering how much you would use them. I wish I could justify (or had room for) something like that bench. Thanks - you're not only good at your job, but the videos are very satisfying to watch :)
You have a very soothing voice. I could have listened to the aluminum refining process until the end, and it wouldn't have bothered me. Oh, and the workbench looks great!
haha...thanks Michael. Maybe I'll read that whole wikipedia page and put it out for people to listen to :)
Just go buy it.
Great advice👓💗💗🤗
Looks awesome man!
Sure does! Now I want to make my own on my channel! (And of course with a couple secret compartments as well 🙄)
Great work
Wow, I see what you mean: that router really is a beast! Great project, great workbench, great video 👍
Thanks man...it really is a big one. But it actually made it feel more stable for this purpose.
woah, love the Frank Howarth style stop motion assembly.
it's a fun time :)
Love the color detail. Nice to see something different. Thanks for another great video. : )
Thanks man...a little touch makes a difference.
Great build I did the same last year and purchased the infil track to slide in to give me a completely flat surface which doubles up as an extra work surface. I also lined up the track with my table saw mitre tracks to allow run through.
infil track...I'm not familiar. I'm intrigued though. I'll check it out.
This is the track correct name : 32" Inch T-bar for Miter T-slot, Jig Fixture Router Table Band Saw Drill Press. It’s available from Amazon under this heading: 48" ALUMINUM MITER T-BAR by Peachtree Woodworking - PW1034
by Peachtree Woodworking
Very good.
Most entertaining woodworking videos on UA-cam.
I mean I try to compete with this guy, but everyone's style is different. Maybe I'll have to try it in my videos. Cutos Chris!
I def spit out my coffee when you started mentioning bauxite.
What an awesome build! I also really enjoy your video editing and commentary. Oh and I really dig the hat! Go Cubs!!
The build is awesome but man...really killing it on the production quality. Nice work!
The work bench looks great. Definitely tell it's your bench. I try to get thing different colours to help me distinguish them a part. In my tool box at work I have several brands of tools that are different colours and find it easier to locate them.
That makes sense...not cordless power tools I'm guessing? That could be a pain for batteries :)
@@Foureyes.Furniture haha. mechanic hand tools for working on aircraft.
SHOP TOUR!!! Please make one 😁
Looks amazing!
Still confused about the shop!
Nice workbench
That looks like a beast of a router!
it's a monster alien :)
This workbench is awesome! but I think im more impressed with your ability to make these videos so entertaining and pleasing to watch. I look forward to the next project I probably won't build but will watch attentively
No harm there...watch and enjoy...and you never know, maybe one day one will be so compelling that you have to build it :)
Some Frank Makes moments there, loved It!
Yup...Frank was a huge inspiration for me getting into this. He is the master
Awesome job Chris. You even make shop furniture look cool. Congrats on 300,000 subs. Onward to half a million 👍🏻
Onwards indeed. It'll be a while...but who knows, maybe with any luck 2019 will be a good year for me!
I dig it.
Hey someone found a few new production tricks to take the videos to the next level! Very cool Chris. keep up the great work, .......and bone dry humor lol!
sooooooo dry :)
Great Video, thanks for sharing! Nice shop BTW
Thank you...appreciate it :)
Nice work fella your videos rock
Thanks Mark :)
Good "howarthing" at 6:34 ;-) Your vids are always great. Keep on!
Thanks man...howarthing is a good time it turns out
holy crap that stop motion was insane!
If you like that, go check out Frank Howarth. He is the master at this stuff. I'm a hack in comparison :)
Chris Salomone I’ll have to check it out. As a professional filmmaker I’m impressed!
I always love your videos. They make my day!
Congrats on the 300K! Wow! Um and that router?!? What a BEAST!
That T-Track bit was awesome......Hot solution of sodium hydrox-what? HA!
You mention in the video about offsetting your slides so the screws don't hit each other. Now I have never used this brand of slides but my guess is that they are like other manufactures in that they have additional screw holes on the slide just for this reason.
Thanks Alan. They do have many places you could put them, but I'm kind of anal about liking to put my final screws through the locking holes. I'm also not 100% positive the screws went deep enough to intersect. I figured I'd just be safe, and it wasn't a whole lot of extra work.
Chris, Thanks for awesome video.
Hope one day I will also have my dream workshop. Working hard to achieve that B-)
me too! this was a step in the right direction :)
Great outfeed table! Maybe one day I'll update my $10 one haha
go for the $20 table? :)
HAHA! Loved the explanation of how to make aluminium. I'm guessing another function of painting each drawer fronts is also if you pull it apart you know where each drawer goes..
Good point...though, I'd have to refer back to this video to remember :)
I also wrote, "1,2,3, and 4 and which column in each drawer bottom"
love it
Thank you for the videos that you create Chris, besides being informative they are witty too. I think you wimped out though by not making your own aluminium LOL.
Thanks though for the videos and light hearted banter, they are appreciated. 👍🏻
I know man...I'm not a true DIY'er :P
awesome video, Love the stop motion parts as well, but that must take a lot of extra time. Keep up the great work!
Yeah...it wasn't too bad. Probably 20 minutes or so. I was inspired by Frank Howarth
I wondered! I love his stuff, too!
@@Foureyes.Furniture I watch Frank's channel all the time. Wish I has a shop like his.
Congrats on 300k bro!
Thanks Scott...i didn't get to watch it happen. That's for the best though :)
Chris Salomone Bummer! 500 will be any day now and you can sit down for that one 👍🏻
Love the trolling, as always.
Really good video with clear instructions and it didn't feel rushed. The unit came out looking awesome as well and I love the colour coded draws..... FYI I'm stealing your idea, it's always a nightmare trying to talk people through finding stuff in my "workshop" and it's in quotes becase its a dumping ground, without proper units at the moment...... probably another good reason people can't find anything 😦😳 Thanks for all the brilliant info 😊
Thanks Glen...and definitely do take that idea. That's the whole reason we share them :)
At 12:33, cutting the T-track on the ryobi miter saw, as you lift your blade, it's evident that your bevel is off. :)
"...just go buy it." Love it.
Great video!! Lol I died when you started giving the instructions on how to make your own tracks. Also I say for reals too. That’s dope you say it too.
for reals :P
Yeah me too. I was actually paying attention as if he was really going to give all the instructions. Then the face and the comment "Just go buy them". I was fighting OCD I think it is called and started to google to get the rest of the explanation. ;-)
The #Howarthing segment when you were making the drawers, well, frankly, just draws me in.
Oh, and measuring ant whiskers while mining and processing bauxite, those are some great tips.
Great build, and solid ideas for making my own outfeed table. Except, I'm sure I'll buy the t-track if I incorporate it.
C'mon Nick...be a real DIY'er and make your own T-track :P
6:51 pocket holes 🕳 backwards! 😆 Nice build! Only thing I thought about was making it two pieces split long ways and putting it on wheels so you could unfold and roll it against the wall as a long base cabinet if you needed floor space.
Not a bad idea for the wheels. I'd move it so infrequently though... As for the backwards comment. It is? To me that looks the right way. From the front going away from the edge of the material. Unless you mean b/d it's a drawer box and the pulling stress would be better if you had the screws go through the sides into the front back instead???
If so, I'd agree, except that since these are push to open drawers, they don't get any pulling stress.
Chris, I’m sure you actually did it correctly, just the illustration (shape of pocket in relation to actual) Love your work! It’s got a 1970s BMW Dakar motorcycle modern retro feel to it.
Dam Chris ... your video skills are taking off like a Tesla rocket ...
I'll assume that's a good thing? I haven't been keeping up with the news.
LOL @ the explanation of aluminum t-track making.
Very nicely done. Earned a sub from seeing this nice workbench. I will be honest with ya. Someone mentioned a tutu. Lol. Yeah I was asked to peek in. But it was worth it. Keep up the good work.
I've always wanted to make an ultimate workbench! Guess I'll have to make an ultimate writing desk instead on my channel. Darn you Chris!
Thanks...and that's for a future bet. We'll see what happens over the course of the next 6 months.
Definitely going to be making my own t-track, thanks for the tip! Will you cover the extrusion process in the next video? 😉
yeah, we'll slowly chip away at it :)
Those drawer slides are super cool. I actually really like this design. No wheels though? Look at you in the big shop having stationary tables.
Excellent edit... just like always. Although I think your game has moved up with your full-time gig. I did see some sped up stuff there which I don't know if I've ever seen you do before. Love you, man.
I smell secret compartments all over those drawers! I'm going to put some in one of my future videos!
Hey Darin...I got some wheels but I haven't installed them yet. I think I will whenever I put a mobile base on the table saw. Until then, it's not going anywhere though :)
Get Hands Dirty! I watch a few makers on UA-cam, and it looks like you all watch the same people. It's rad to see we're all part of a circle of people who "know" each other. You should fly out to Porto and shoot a video in her shop.
She's awesome...hoping our paths finally cross this year. :)
I'm jealous of your shop space, and it looks like you're populating it well! Also, I expected you to be near me, considering the hat and all, but I see you're in CA. Good luck on going video full time! I'm enjoying your videos, and writing, so I'm sure you'll do fine.
Thanks Eric...appreciate it. Definitely not taking this shop for granted :)
