Hello, sound engineer here. From personal experience i would say that for the most deep sounding keyboard or "thock" i would recommend using a wooden case. Because wood resonates on low frequencies (exactly about 1.1 Hz.) For comparison the resonant frequency of plastic is about 9.225 Hz, and brass/metal resonates at a high frecuency of 100-150 Hz which is why brass plate keyboards are high pitched or "clacky".

Lubing cj’s doesn’t ruin smoothness at all. Polishing is a process that makes the stem fit smoother and reduces friction into the bottom housing by wearing it in. Lube also reduces friction. I’ve compared unlubed to my lubed cj’s and they feel exactly the same. Still buttery smooth. Only difference is that the plasticy sound of the upstroke (I found unbearable) was toned down a bit.
Just got a Keychron V1 with Boba U4T switches and the same SA profile keycap set you have here, that I also got for my first build a while back! I almost think it sounds slightly too deep, which is why I'm going to tape mod it to potentially brighten the sound just a tad.
@@NT_UTD19191 I lubed them, but only by using a syringe and squirting a little into each switch without deconstruction. It didn't make the most significant difference, but after the tape mod I'm very happy with how they've performed.
Personally, i lubed the entire stem. But it took away like 2% of the smoothness(not a lot but noticable), so make sure you test a few different methods of lubing on 2-4 CJ's and see what you like best! You will probably only need to do the top housing to fix the upstroke clack, but you might also want to lube/bag lube the springs! Hope that helps.
i have a full review of the crystal icebergs on my channel actually! haha. does that help? The only issue youll have with interference is if you have a north facing PCB. The switch wouldnt affect that
Hi there. I'm doing as similar build as yours and came across your video. I wanted to ask for the lubing of your switches. Do you not lube the stem at all? So just the bottom housing, springs and the specific part on the top housing? Reason I'm asking because you didn't really mention it and it's fairly different from luring tutorials I've seen
First of all thanks for the amazing video. I've got a question though should I go for CJ or Oil King ? seems like they are built in same way, price is also very similar. Do you have both to do a comparison of which is deeper sounding ?
If you're looking for a deeper sound, go with the oil kings! If you're looking for the smoothest stock switch of all time, go with the CJs. You can make the CJ's deep if you do what i did in the video, but bc of the materials, Oil Kings are deeper.
@@DanielBerthellemy I think that depends - i'd try them out when you get them and see if its good enough/not worth lubing. but like every switch, they're gonna benefit from a full lube sesh. Id look into Keybored's review of them, he discusses the lube situation.

So I'd be cautious there, and opt for an Akko Mod007 or Keychron Q1 knob. Most of the people saying the GMMK pro is a great board, are not really enthusiasts, or it's their first foray into customs.
