    damn, this is a really solid option at that price point. Nice to see so many choices for those new to the hobby among this, the upcoming Keychron Q1 and the GMMK Pro. Definitely an exciting time for the community!

      I saw the Keychron Q1 and that looks really exciting! I really hope they don't make similar errors as GMMK Pro with the design and open up the board a bit for better sound and feel. I feel if Glorious gave the GMMK pro a bit more vertical space to work with, that would have been amazing for both sound and feel... maybe for V2 lol. But the community has grown so much and there are sooo many great options now! :)

      @@Keybored I still want to snag a GMMK Pro but I have heard some complaints. It looks like a solid board for their first entry into the custom market with a few missed minor details. Hopefully a V2 does address those!

      How's it going Jaeyou! I think FR4 is one of my favorite materials for plates. It's not as stiff as the metal ones, but also sounds so clean. I may need to start getting some FR4 cut for some other boards! Love your 7v build tho! I'm sure that will sound amazing with an FR4 for sure!

    It just occurred to me the FR4 plate mod won't work on the R2 without extra standoffs, because its standoffs are embedded in its plate rather than screwed to it. Guess I'm glad I got the R1, because I really want to try that! Very cool way of distinguishing your take on this keeb - great video.

    I think something a lot of mk enthusiasts forget about when deciding on good entry boards is the availability. For someone getting started, being able to get it right there and then and have it ship in a reasonable amount of time matters a lot as they are new to the hobby, and it often gets overlooked. A lot of people said Tada68, NK65 or whatever as a good starting board, but for years I have never been able to actually get it.

    This, Portico, or Tofu65? I’m having a hard time trying to decide which one would be the best to get. Something under 300 would be preferred if you know any really good 65% boards. Thanks!

    • @Keybored
      @Keybored  3 роки тому +1

      Hi Bigman! I should be releasing the portico vs the kbd67 lite video this week (so stay tuned for that!) But between the 2 and the Tofu, they are very different keyboards. I feel that in terms of overall "premium" level, the Tofu definitely plays the part better with its aluminum case and brass heft, the various options you can choose for plates, etc. However, it is a tray mounted design and features less "technology" as the KBD67 and Portico with their newer gasket designs. If I was going for stock, out of box use, I would probably take the KBD67 Lite or the Portico, but if I was willing to mod a bit, I probably would choose the Tofu over the 2, especially with dampening and O-Ring mod, the tofu transforms!

    • @bigman8733

      @@Keybored thanks for a more in depth response than I was expecting. Tofu65 has been on my mind since I saw your o-ring mod tutorial (I commented asking about the Tofu60 comparability which unfortunately didn’t work since the screws were a bit too short) but saw this and was unsure which to get. I think I’ll stick with getting a Tofu65 and modding the crap out of it using the methods you showed. Thanks again and subbed :)

      It actually does not save tofu. Only choose it if you really want the weight. Maybe tactiles are more tolerant with boards. But if you put linears, tofu is almost impossible to sound better than a gasket board.

    • @Keybored
      @Keybored  3 роки тому +1

      Yup! The silicone mod does make the case sound more high pitched. It essentially takes away the case volume, that usually acts like a resonant chamber (like a subwoofer) and makes it more high pitched. However, it does help the case sound less hollow... so plus and minus there I guess. Usually for cases like this, I would use the butyl noise dampener (dynamat, killmat, etc.) since those do a better job of essentially "eating the sound" but didn't want to make it look so ugly from the underside lol :)
