  • In this video, I go into detail on putting away two weeks of food and supplies for two people in your prepper pantry.
    I cover many different options of food with a total of 14 days of breakfasts, lunches, and dinners. Lunches include soup and a side dish, dinners are a protein, vegetable, side dish, and even a desert.
    You'll know how to plan the preps in your prepper pantry after you watch this video, as well as understand the amount of food it actually takes.
    You can find more details in the accompanying article at

      When I started out years ago, I was all over the map. I was storing random items based on price and convenience and that was costing more money for fewer meals.
      I made it way more complicated than it was but I tend to do that on a lot of things. Right now it's Bitcoin but I'm working through it.

    One thing I do, which I got made fun of for years bc I felt guilty throwing them away bc it’s wasteful, is saving condiment packets. Once I started my pantry it’s very helpful for bagged emergency meals or a go bag. It’s free condiments to use in an emergency or in a recipe at home.

    I started a pantry because of storms here. Our power would be out for 2 wks. And before going grocery shopping. I would take out anything I thought I could spare and add it to my pantry supplies. It soon started adding up. I went from 2 wks to almost 2 months. In no time. Which sure came in handy. Because my husband got hurt on a job and was then out of work for 2 months. My pantry and freezer saved us. And had 2 small children. It was a life saver!! We only made through because of the things I canned froze and stored in the pantry. And mentally easier when not worried about how you will feed your family.

    For storms we fill the bathtubs with water. But I also purchased 2 garbage cans with lids. Be for storms I clean the cans and fill with water. Then put on lids. Make sure there are no drainage holes in the bottom or wheels to let out the water. That is 60 gal of water. Can be used for dish washing or clothes washing. Another option is a smaller kids swimming pool. Fill it so kids will have something to keep busy and cool in summer. And get a bath. Stress reliever as well. Kids feel your stress. And pool gives Parents a little break. Also little backyard picnics help.

    That’s a good looking pantry. Thanks for taking the time to share. Are you not concerned about the possibility of a few mice getting in and destroying half of your food? I’ve seen it happen to friends too many times. While simply storing your boxes of food on the shelves looks nice, it puts the food at risk for damage from rodents and water leaks. 55 gallon steel drums or something strong might help protect your food. Just a thought.

    • @NextStepSurvival
      @NextStepSurvival  2 роки тому +3

      Thanks Richard, great point but it's tough to rotate food when it's deep inside drums. I've been lucky so far, I've been using the shelving racks for years without a single rodent or bug incident. I've had a few mice over the years but nothing has climbed the racks yet. It's always a risk though. Same with bugs. Either can ruin your day.

    • @Richard-1469
      @Richard-1469 2 роки тому +4

      @@NextStepSurvival I completely agree. It's hard to find that balance between "ideal safe storage" and ease of rotation. I had a friend go to the beach for two weeks and when he returned, a few mice had somehow gotten in and had eaten into half of his dry goods and a few water bottles. It was a huge mess and he lost about half of his inventory. Even simple plastic 5 gallon buckets are good to resist water leaks and most rodents. I have a cache in a storage unit that I hadn't looked at in over a year. The other day, I noticed quite a few chew marks on the plastic from mice but none got through. Given enough time and determination they eventually would. I use the steel drums more for mylar bags of rice, etc. that's not rotated as often. Thanks again for all of your great videos. We really appreciate your hard work and information.

      Rats don't like peppermint.
      A lot of trees were cut down near me and mice got into my car on the car port. I bought peppermint flavoring and put half of the little bottle and finished with water and sprayed my car including the trunk.
      I did this twice just to make sure they were gone. I now do this the first of the month to be on the safe side.

    Males need to note that the cook( usually a female) put COMPLEATE MEALS TOGETHER
    They dont pull out meat for a week and stack it together. They pull out 1 protein a vegetable or two a fruit, dairy and a bread starch( like noodles) and everything is together so their is no hunting for items.
    Also snacks aregrouped together with what their used with the peanut butter and jelly needs a box of crackers or a shelf stable bread, ( a box mix would do) also a random shelf of canned vegetables is a little odd unless its all the same thing. Most families will have a single vegetable served with specifically meal. Like green beans is always served with spaghetti.
    Using more single serving foods is more useful in a power outage. And you showed nothing on ways to cook the food. Canned goods can be heat and serve. ALL BREAKFAST YOU SHOWED REQUIRE COOKING. ( dollar general has sausage gravey in a can. Can be eaten cold and yummy) i like salmon in small cans boneless and skinless. Can be eaten cold. If your not gonna show an easy method of cooking in a power out WHY ARE YOU SHOWING FOOD THAT REQUIRES COOKING . Dry beans and rice require cooking. ( Smaller beans like lentils, black eye peas take less time and water to cook than pintos or chic peas)and in emergency canned beans are better even if more expensive. No cooking required only a can opener and a spoon.
    Im in public housing and in the last 15 years my power goes out regularly.

      I love that you have thought things through for your situation. That's important.
      This was a video on starting a pantry. Not a blackout cook kit. Look around my channel, and you will find videos on cooking from the pantry.
      Every SHTF event doesn't mean no electricity or water, but we prep for those. I try to show options. If someone prefers green beans with pasta, they can store those.
      I wouldn't assume that 'most' people prefer a particular meal plan over another. Just as I wouldn't assume the female does the cooking. My idea of a working pantry doesn't assume there's no electricity, water, or gas, and it doesn't group everything into ready to eat meals. We rotate these pantry items into our daily lives and have built it up as we went. Today, we have well over a year's supply of food. But you do what works best for you. There's no one solution for all. The important thing is that you're planning for potential emergencies.
