- The very best have all been taught by Rob Wilson, master wizard behind the wheel and BenzeneBen finds himself next on the list beside Valtteri Bottas, Kimi Raikkonen and Nico Rosberg! Everybody likes to think of themselves as the most amazing driver on the roads, but the truth is that there is always something to improve and learn, even for the Formula 1 drivers to sharpen their skills!
You might be expecting a supercar or track based machine but Rob chooses to instruct from a Vauxhall Astra; a diesel front-engined hatchback... Allow him to explain why and experience how you can improve the three big inputs - braking, steering and the throttle while being on a trackday.
You can follow BenzeneBen directly at / benzeneben
Thanks for watching, Tim

Peter Windsor likes Rob a lot. His work seemed like witchcraft to me, not because i know anything about racing actually its quite the opposite.
Ben, this channel has an asset, its you. I can see where this is going! You guys could make this the best car and performance channel on youtube... actually it already is
Bro plz Pramot
My channel
He taught everyone except lewis, because lewis naturally does what he teaches.
#teamlh
This guy trained me last year...ever since, not one cop has been able to catch me!!
🤣🤣🤣
Great video Ben. This was awesome to watch, love seeing videos like this.
This video was just good ;) Turning weaknesses into strengths, great job. What a genuinely nice guy.
Shmee looks different today..
Yes :D
that what i thought lol
That was some extraordinary driving Ben! Well done!
Flat car reminds me of top gear: if the round looks slow,it usually is fast
What does "flat car" mean?
Enjoyed the video Ben... good work
Ha! You ask for more motorsport content in one of the last videos, and you get it!
This is like YT on demand. xD
Awesome shtuff!
Fascinating video, huge thanks.
Hi, Tim, good job as always!!!Seeing Ben is always a bliss. It would be great if you two made a proper video together testing something very special!! I'd been thinking that the Vauxhall was a bit lack of performance but after I saw it in action it blew my socks off !!! I can tell you straightaway that this channel will be getting incredibly huge very soon!! The one thing that I'd like to know is would you be willing to trade some of your supercars for a car that you reckon very important?
Great video! I hope it was as fun for you as I think it would have been for me! I hope it was an absolute blast!
You had quite a strong baseline to begin with. Your steering input was so smooth!
To be honest, I absolutely did not expext Rob looking like that! :D But first of all, he seems to be a genuinely likeable guy and the people he's coached in his life speak for themselves! :)
#shquad
BossDeFender There's lots and lots of driver analysis from F1 drivers by this guy here on UA-cam. He's on Peter Windsors channel (The Racers Edge), he gives very good explanations on drivers and different driving styles and they just talk alot of F1.
Nice, thanks for the info! :) How come that I've never seen or heard of him before?! I've really got to check out more.
Nice work Ben !!!
In the next video...
*I've bought a Vauxhall Astra!*
Great Rob..he and peter windsor are doing an incredible job in giving real insights of pure driving..
Quote from the very end of the video, " I hope you guys have enjoyed this video - subscribe if you haven't". I like the addition of this humour.
Fabulous video !
The handling of the Astra K is superb. It's a seriously underrated vehicle.
That's a TON of cars parked on the side of the track at 10:36. Is it a storage area or something? They all look similar.
Shmee, whats your thought on lotus evora 430GT ???
Wow. This guy is like a Racing Yoda. So calm and easy with his wisdom.
Great informative video, Ben!
Great opportunity ! Good times !
Hi Tim i like your new haircut i hope u enjoyed your day
That Astra changed my mind about Vauxhalls! Greetings from autobahn POV videos :)
WOW!!! 1st, great video! 2nd, it is amazing seeing the "flat car" I always thought that linking corners making use of the whole track was the most efficient way to go around. Will try "flat car" next time I go to the karting circuit
What does "flat car" mean?
Had some mates who followed the flat car approach when they passed there test. On its roof in a field......
Hi Tim love the content
Hi Guys I’m Not Shmee
Hi Paul
I was at bruntingthorpe a couple of weeks ago
Kind of unrelated but been seeing more indepth looks at the new McLaren waiting for yours. Most sports have coaches for the athletes why should car racing be any different
How do I get in contact with rob
Why would there be so many expensive planes near a race course? Is there enough insurance to cover possible damage to them from a car collision?
Slow is smooth, smooth is fast. The idea is to keep your steering and braking as minimal as possible in order to go fast.
how many hp does this Astra have?
Rob is such a legend.
Big time, he knows his stuff!
1 on 1 training from a master is priceless regardless of the field.
His flat car approach is close to what I taught my friends & kids in the 80s by duct taping a dog dish on the hood with a tennis ball inside & you had to lap the track without losing the ball. It teaches smoothness not speed, that comes later. It’s always been the best approach. (Jackie Stewart was my real teacher though not in person, that was Skip Barber)
Tim have you had seat time with this man, has he taught you as well?
Thanks
Tim
Nope, Ben is the only one went there
Shmee150
What a shame
Minor issue: video needed Shmee intro with you explaining what was coming up. Till I saw your logo in the corner I thought I was on the wrong vlog.
What does "flat car" mean?
What a proper but smooth intro into the world of formula one driving though the accent is a bit hard to make out at times.
Who Made Th1s Video
I did this with Rob!!
Ben, when is your new mustang arriving?
Hey guys what car is Rob using to teach or in other words what's the equivalent car here in America, thanks.
Golf or Focus... Front wheel drive hatchback with a turbo diesel
Rob Wilson is a bona fide legend
Rob is a Legend how can I learn from him?
Not bad Ben, not bad! Looking tidy.
Tim should learn this too.
What does "flat car" mean?
Man I hate other people touching the wheel when I drive
Ben looks in the car a bit like schumacher in his younger years
Very little views on this video. Tim, does it affect that you upload almost daily? Maybe that´s affecting it. What do you think? Hope 2018 brings many more subscribers and much success
Might he be sponsored by Vauxhall? haha!!
Okay but how do we know that there isn't a faster way at lapping it. That was nice when he went on the grass
They do the equivalent of 2 24hour le'mon back to back. So I'm guessing he keeps them for around 10k miles.
lol, rob has got a Nokia 3210
6310i ;)
that Nokia brick thoooo
where is Shmee
OMG, finally a professional who tells you that some vauxhalls are superfast !!! I hope you understand now.
Pikachu Nobody denies they can be quick, it's just the drivers people don't like. Tend to be a bit chavvy and their idea of mods are Monster energy stickers and a fart can exhaust.
FF cars are just road legal dodgems for noobs and old people. The real action is in FR!
Is he the Stig?
Hi Tim! I love your cars they are so cool. One day I hope to be like you 😍
Hi Tim. Very good video!
I asked another driving instructor, Ross Bentley (author of Speed Secrets books), about making podcast with Rob (Ross makes his own SpeedSecrets Podcast), and Ross is very enthusiastic about it, but he don't have Rob's contacts. Maybe you can help with that?
My English is not good, so sorry for mistakes, if there is any.
Drop me a message on my website and my business manager will connect you with Rob.
Thanks!
dont keep touching my fkn steering wheel !!
James Myles 🤣
Or my Knob!
It would make me more nervous and I would make more mistakes, just tell me and/or point in the direction 😒
@@Budge1970 Hahaha
It's to indicate when and by how much to introduce the short increase in steering angle Mid corner. Best way to do it.
*SHQUUAADD*
That intro...😂
Cool list to be on though
Hi Shmee, I’m Tim.
Hi Tim, I'm Shmee
Another famous Juan Pablo
If only we'd have been able to hear the discussion and understand the info Rob was imparting, it would have been a much, much better video - and this criticism is NOT confined to this particular Shmee episode, for it's something which happens too often. The quality of the images is well sorted, why not the sound? The intro and 'cheers' are fine, as are the walk rounds, but once inside a car under 'channelling' audio conditions, it all goes to pot. Much room for improvement - please!
I very much agree. It can't hurt to mic whomever is speaking so the dialog is clear. That would have greatly enhanced an otherwise superb video.
The Finnish Trio
+Shmee150 So we’ve been introduced to Ben as a “host” on this show, and I think that’s great. But the first video featuring him and the “Benmobile”, and there’s no introduction to the “Benmobile”?! C’mon! I kid of course, but still!
#Theshquad ... hi tim
#shquad
It's cupcake again!
All I was thinking was the poor bugger who gets to own the car after he's finished with it
where is Tim
Back today :)
benzenben looks weird without a moustache and beard
see him in the shambles in lutterworth now and again bit grumpy to be honest
Is there a thing called ben150 seriously?
Rob, great respect for you, but every car has a button for 'all electronics off'. At least should have driven a BMW 320i not a diesel Astra :(
Hi guys I’m not Donald trump... oh wait
That's a good thing, although if Donald Trump watched my video that would be kinda cool in a weird way
Shmee150 great work with the video!
4 seconds after upload, must be a personal record.. :D
I’ve watched quite a few videos of Rob Wilson training, yet in all honesty, I’ve never found anything I can use in my track driving. I think it’s something to with using an airfield and cones rather than a purpose built. circuit. I’d love to see him training on a better track then maybe I could figure him out a bit more. I know he is great at what he does but Bruntingthorpe, makes for poor videos.
Yeah some what agree , it's very hard as viewer to see the lines on this track and there for grasp the concepts as easily
So the one thing to remember is flat car
Missed the intro, did shmee go through puberty?
4:18
what? how do you go through an entire session of driver training without talking about braking? that was weird...
Where are your beard?
#SHQUAD!!! lol
#Shquad
Just not right without Tim.
You look like Joel Kinnaman. Google him.
Who the hell are you? Where's Shmee.
Second 😶
he never taught lewis hamilton or vettel or alonso, or verstappen.
Ben shquad
#earlysquad XD
You siriusly forgot max verstappen
This Is Thomas Well, he thought way more people then he talked about. So yeah, he left out the formula one driver that is just almost making a dent in de sport.
That driving coach sounds like Jeremy Clarkson
Is that same guy wtf?
flat car flat car...whynot have stiffer anti roll bars on struts
So the main point of his teaching seems to be steering input and you didn't show the wheel when rob was driving. Seems like a good way to ruin what could have been a good video
Camera failed so we lost that footage
