- Saving the world is a piece of cake when you’re a speedy blue hedgehog. So easy, in fact, that Sonic the Hedgehog has done it about…carry the one, add the zero…899 times, according to Tails’ calculations. And Sonic is about to go on his 900th world-saving adventure because… Hot potato, hot potato! Sonic and his friends are playing a game of hot potato! Only the potato is the Warp Topaz and instead of burning their hands, it could warp the whole world into oblivion. Or something like that. The gang is passing off the Warp Topaz in a relay race to get rid of it once and for all. Celebrate the mind-blowing 900th-issue milestone with superstars Ian Flynn, Evan Stanley, Caleb Goellner, Daniel Barnes, Aaron Hammerstrom, and returning Sonic the Comic writer Nigel Kitching as they participate in a relay race of their own, telling this story in six speed-racing, nail-biting, egg-kicking parts!

To be honest, I thought deep down that the story would've had Sonic transport to all of the past Sonic Comic Universes with the Warp Topaz, but now I realize that would've been complicated due to certain legal issues. Now I wonder if the artists from those past Sonic Comics did just the artwork.
One of the writers was from the old Fleetway comics, so it's entirely possible -- I didn't run a check on all of them, admittedly.
@@BornFlunky 🙂 So cool! I knew one of the artists from the Fleetway comics did work for one of the alternate covers so I was curious if they did more than that.
This was a pretty fun issue. The lighting and shading done by the artists is positively gorgeous, especially in the Amy portion with all thr green everywhere. I kinda wish Knuckles had more screen time but that's really my only gripe with this issue. Everyone else was really fun to watch. Amy knocking out a whale, Metal being menacing, Cream wanting to be heroic with Blaze accompanying her (I refuse to believe she can't lift up both Sonic and Blaze since she can lift up Amy and BIG at the same time) and finally the Babylon Rogues being their usual selves. Shadow just being straightforward instead of instantly fighting and being a jerk is nice, given that he's been written poorly in the past. And it's just nice and funny seeing Rouge lay on top of a lump of gold knowing what Jet and his crew are in for.
Above all a silid and fun adventure.
I think it's funny cause sonic technically stopped knuckles from getting more screen time
I think that was one of the most trippiest comics that I ever read
So Cream is struggling to hold up both Sonic and Blaze, but can lift Amy and Big without breaking a sweat? I'm calling shenanigans on that 😂
I’m in complete agreement with you on that.
i think the tri-cores have something to say about that
Characters are all around nerfed in IDW.
She had already flown for a decent bit while carrying Sonic before Blaze was added on; and remember that Cream can only fly for so long in general. Also, she DID have to "Level up!" with the yellow power cores in Heroes to more effectively carry Amy and Big.
@@videogollumer giver her 6 more years and she will be able to carry big amy sonic and blaze for all eternity using only half of the flight core (the yellow orb from sonic heroes)
900th is pretty much the narrative that I wanted for Generations. While the game is great, the narrative doesn’t have much going on with the cutscenes, as they mostly exist in white space rather than the returning stages. Only the two Sonic’s interact with these locations, and rival battles between characters are never explained.
900th Adventure solves all of the issues mentioned and more.
I hope that the rainbow canyon area and Scrapnik Island become future stages in games.
25:51 GOD DAMN IT SEGA FEATURE HER BACK IN THE MAINSTREAM GAMES FOR PETE'S SAKE! I CAN'T STANDS TO SEE HER UPSET!!!!
THAT'S WHAT I'M SAYING!
“Greatness began here.” Very interesting…
36:30 Even the comics have momentum.
Cool art I guess but… idk man, I don’t think this one lived up to the hype at all. Everyone just shows up, barely contributes anything (except Cream and Blaze I guess), the Babylon Rogues are just plain incompetent now, and WHAT THE HELL WERE THOSE SHADOW LINES?
**sigh…** well, at least 12:22 is cute
This was just a fun, love letter to us Sonic fans. While it couldn't honor all of Sonic's comic history, it was a great comic.
Sonamy is canon now
Man, when I saw that hug I was so shocked. Starting to think dude just doesn’t care anymore when it comes to hugs honestly. In the games canon he grew from not being a fan to being chill about it. Also can’t get over how “Ames” is also canon now.
I believe Sonamy is at least canon in the sense that they both like-like or even LOVE one another.
You outa know if Sonic’s hugging her, calling Amy by her nickname, and asking for a treat, they may or may not need just a little bit more time to fully become something more. Or time to be their own person first.
Even if they don’t get together, I’m fine with having these teases. 💙💖
Not necessarily.
@@hydrocityshark I mean….it’s getting more obious the more content comes out. I know people have different perspectives, but it’s the sudden hugging back and nickname becoming canon that does it for me personally. There’s also been plenty of hints from the director of Frontiers and plenty of other evidence, but as I’ve said people have different perspectives.
It’s fine if you disagree though.
@@essycogany2738 Well, Sonic may call Amy “Ames” but he also calls Knuckles “Knux”. Ian Flynn has gone on to say that the relationship is still mutual. However, I’m not one to dump on a head canon.
@@hydrocityshark That’s fair. Again though Sonic’s never really been into hugs before. Not in the main canon anyways, so his feelings must’ve changed into something.
It’s always been confirmed Sonic has a crush on Amy from enough official people too. I believe when people say “Sonamy is canon.” I believe they mean, “It’s been confirmed Sonic and Amy have crushes on each other and the moment in this comic homes that in.”
Whatever you believe this is all just for fun at the end of the day. I personally enjoy speculating. 😄👍
It seems like people are upset about how Shadow acted in this issue, but if you ask me it shows how he's grown. He always wasn't the best with social skills. This was probably Shadow trying to be nice and upfront. The line "my superior hands" may have been a bit too overdramatic, but I think the point was that Shadow went the wrong way trying to convince Sonic to give him the warp topaz, hence Rouge's reaction. Good in theory, lacking in excecution.
Also they knew what they were doing, and I don't mind. 12:23
Agree with Shadow, I kinda think its best to read his dialogue within the lens of a tsundere XD The guy cares, but has trouble properly expressing it to those he cares about.
@djshock5353 That was the last thing I expected, but when you put it like that, you have a point.
Ngl the “superior hands” part actually made me chuckle quite a lot 🤭
@@76o90 yeah I thought it was funny
Ok now you have a point
34:16 Jet; Jet; Jet, Jet, Jet... DO YOU HAVE A DOZEN DEATH WISHES?!!!!!

Things I love about this one-shot;
The entire issue is just Sonic bein a Sonic, doin Sonic things, and sayin Sonic stuff
Sonic playing a guitar
Sonic being modest in a Sonic way
Plot device appears out of thin air only when characters start talking about it cliché
Sonic running headfirst into danger to save the world once again without regard for his own safety whatsoever
Possible acknowledgement of Frontiers' events at 7:41
Sonic's code names
"Tornadonator"
Amy saving Sonic
Sonic saving Amy
Orcas not liking Sonic for no reason is just a thing now
Sonic peel-out
Sonamy moments
Sonic shaking out his quills like a wet dog
Sonic being a faker to fool the faker
Sonic being a little A-hole to Knuckles
Knuckle angry face
Orbot and Cubot
Cubot being an idiot as usual
Orbot and Cubot actually trying to wrestle Sonic for once and almost succeeding
Sonic surfing on a missile
"Big oof"
Cream being a sweet cinnamon roll
Sonic being a big bro to Cream
Cream's face 29:01
Sonic being Sonic and doing his own thing
Shadow going berserk on the Babylon Rogues
Warp topaz doesn't appreciate being insulted
Sonic's faces 2:24, 7:04 (bottom panel), 7:21, 19:00, 26:35, and 36:23.
Cool story. But seriously i though shadow was no edgy any more and he was done with that stuff. Also why did shadow call rouge a fool he wouldnt say that to his sister friend
I think he meant Sonic.
He was OBVIOUSLY talking about Sonic in particular. Also, be happy that Shadow at least asked instead of outright attacking Sonic without warning to get the Topaz.
enough with the sibling stuff
@@loiiysailor1177 Yeah, these two are pure couple material!
Loving the colours in some of these pages, particularly during Amy's and Metal's scenes. It was fun to try and guess all the locations Sonic went to as well. There's Green Hill, Dragon Road, Dusty Desert (?), a random Eggman lab, Ancient Relics (or Station Square?), somewhere entirely new (Imma calling it Rainbow Desert), Apotos, Red Mountain, some random mine and whatever hovel of a cave the Warp Topaz came from.
i call that desert Canvas Canyon
looked more badlands minecraft then a desert
@@Adir-YosefThat's not bad. Alternatively I came up with Ripple Canyon, but Canvas sounds more appropriate.
@@GrandmasterDevo Whatever it's called, it clearly seems to be based on the Painted Desert.
Water Palace from Sonic Rush 🔥
Don't worry, Cream; Starline is very dead now, and Tangle tail punched that witchy Zeena in the face JUST for you. 😊
the only thing I will say is not necessary
To say witch, I mean, she's a villain, I know, but damn, enough of the hatred towards her is enough, but at least some respect for the character because people already treat her like garbage because she only hits Cream and the fanboys and fangirls care too much, or rather, rather, an obsession with cream, I'm not saying it's bad or a misunderstanding, but in my personal opinion the character cream forgets his personality at the end of the metal virus arc and the short comics don't help his development because they are filler comics until the end. new arc doesn't help him because he will never mention it
Before criticizing me and above all sending me death letters, it is my opinion because I analyzed the character of Cream from idw, I am not saying that Zeena is perfect, also in idw, she is terrible. I expected a strong, agile and intelligent zeena and to leave that stereotypical shit in the American version. I mean, a spoiled villain and she looks at herself and bases herself on the Japanese version, but that's asking a lot from a person who is said to understand the characters but does them wrong.

Babylon Rogues choose the wrong day to piss off the Ultimate Lifeform
Quite very much so indeed.
Is there a right day?
Two things
1) Never mocking his ultimate life form status
2) Talking badly about Maria.
@@valentinkambushev4968 Nope!
Love this Sonic 900th milestone adventure special comic this is yet another year for the speedy blue blur, speedy blue streak, Sonic. 🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩🤩
I liked this issue, but at the same time, it feels a little underwhelming as Sonic’s 900th adventure. I kind of expected more. The art was great, though.
So does that count all the adventures in Archie too?
@@beckthetinkerbot Yeah. They counted all the issues of all the English Sonic comics. Archie, Fleetway, and IDW. That makes this issue a bit underwhelming.
The whole time I was thinking, “This is one of the best issues yet”. I LOVED the art styles and interactions
Shadows interpretation in this is actually really good. And before you point out the ego. One of Shadows lines in sa2 is literally "i'm the coolest"
Please stop
@@Kristoff_Smith no maria?
This I enjoyed better than issue 64. I feel like Starline has officially been laid to rest. Good riddance to him for all the trouble he caused.
Scourge and Kitsunami are still out there, and Starline still haunts Scourge's mind. Sad to say, his specter and influence lingers. Though putting the Warp Topaz to sleep does feel like a certain level of finality for part of his crimes.
34:26
"I heard that you were talking sh!t and ya didn't think that Iwould hear it"
This comic is pretty great, but the only issue is Sonic's personality, can't he take a thing seriously without a humor?!
Can Shadow be anything but an overconfident edgelord? Here's your answer.
@@valentinkambushev4968 Fair enough
Part of the charm of our favourite speedy blue hedgehog I suppose, but eh it’s nice to see a positive character once in a while and besides the situation wasn’t that dire, right….?
Sure he can! Just threaten Tails and/or Amy's lives, and he'll drop the humor faster than you can say *hic.* Cream's life will also work just as well.
@@videogollumer didn’t he panic in the last issue of battle for angel island arc? Because Tails crashed? Yeah definitely don’t mess with his little brother, that’s the last thing you ever wanna do. (If you do, he will make it the last thing you ever did)

Literally Sonic Across the Hedgehogverse
Lol exactly, the change in artstyle also feels like he’s going through multiple universes 😂
More like Across, since the Warp Topaz is more akin to the Spot.

@@makako67 Oof, I better do more reading, less skimming. Sorry man.
ngl, idw has some amazing story arcs, but some of the cast neglect in is starting to annoy the shit outta me. i swear ever since i started reading idw, they've disappointed me consistently with there constant shafting of knuckles. at first i thought it was because they where trying to stay true to his mission as guardian, but even when he gets page time they act like they've got no clue wat to do with him.
Tbh IDW peaked in the Metal virus arc, and even then the ending to that sucked. I heard Scrapnik Island was alright, but idk.
The next arc after the whole Mimic storyline is gonna revolve around Knuckles, the Chaotix, and the Babylon Rogues so we're finally gonna get our boy back
@@SonicSwift99 Don't forget the Rabbit Family and the Skunk Brothers.
Yeah, even when he does show up, Knuckles doesn't get to do anything. He didn't get to fight any Zetis in the Metal Virus finale, he doesn't get anything to do here, he never even got a story of his own in any of the annuals when those seem like they would be perfect for a character like him. It's pretty telling that they printed a freaking Blaze story that just happened to have Knuckles giving her a pep talk in it for a few pages in the Knuckles' Greatest Hits collection.
@@rainpooper7088I prefer Knuckles making lesser appearances due to the master emerald rather than a Knuckles who appears frequently but has nothing to do. I remember that very thing being a problem among fans with meta era Knuckles.

38:29
Even after "death" he is creepy
Aight I think I generated more conflict than what I usually can handle heh, I still believe idw Shadow is pretty good though some of his lastests apperances could have some tweaks in terms of dialogue wording... but I like to keep my peace online
I’m sorry but THAT is “Shadow as himself”??
@@KYRA_RISINGSEGA doesn't let the writers write Shadow anything other than 'overegoistic & confident hedgehog'.
@@KYRA_RISING Yup! I really don't understand why people have issues with Shadow in this issue... Some people point out his pretentiousness and sense of superiority, but those are aspects that had always been with Shadow since the very begining! And is also part why the character is so interesting!! we can't have goodie-two-shoes all the time, hehe
@@airconditionedBreeze That's bc that's who Shadow is! I think that we shouldn't try and "fix" intentional character "flaws" bc then we'll be making our character 1 dimentional :((... Shadow isn't a conventionally likable character and that's all part of his charm!

Well, with the Warp Topaz returned to where it belongs and gone, Starline Base Sigma got destoryed, Starline himself dead, and Surge and Kit betraying him and doesn't even want to or intended to became or living up his legacy, that means this is truly the end of Dr. Starline

32:47-34:33 My disappointment with SEGA is immeasurable. Even in a 900th milestone special we’re still stuck with this edgy clown, would it kill them to just give us The Real Shadow back already! And not only that, they didn’t even bother to have the full Team Dark together for this. YOU CAN’T KEEP GETTING AWAY WITH THIS SEGA!!!

@@justynhill4814 I’m fine with Vegeta in super cause he at least developed back to where he was at the end of Z in the super manga. But Shadow doesn’t even care about anyone AT All anymore, especially his friends Rouge and Omega. And that’s the whole problem! He’s only prideful and arrogant now with all his other redeeming qualities that make Shadow his own unique character stripped away from him.
This was a great issue which I can’t deny, but honestly, the screen time the characters got and some plot points were kinda meh.
So, first of all Amy shows up to help, but only to help for the orca fight, after which she gets quickly thrown off. But atleast she got some screentime, unlike Knuckles who was only shown in a few panels and was treated like shit in all of these, and he barely even got to do anything. He came to help, but then was just flung aside like garbage :(
I didn’t have any problem with the Eggman and cream and blaze sequences. They were handled pretty well there!
Now coming to the panels where we meet the Babylon rogues and Shadow and Rouge. I guess Omega wasn’t able to join them :/
The Babylon Rogues were treated like Knuckles as well. They were just used as simple obstacles just for the sake of it and taken down pretty easily, which is surprising because I thought they were capable of putting up a fight. Rouge was being herself as usual, but Shadow? He’s still edgy and super egotistical, but he got better than he was in the Metal Virus arc, where he was a complete dumbass and had an even more insane superiority complex than he did in these panels. He was a bit humble and straightforward here, but the superior hands line made me both chuckle and cringe at the same time. Why can’t SEGA just fire the mandates?

Theres no way in hell Jet would be scared of Shadow the Labrat, and the fact that the Babylon Rogues are just portrayed as incompetent jobbers proves that Ian Flynn has a serious grudge against them.
Considering the Drama he puts against fans of the Babylon Rogues in the past, i'm not surprised. Fucking Fire him already, Sega!
For the second and last time, HE DIDN'T WRITE THAT PART! Look at the credits at the beginning! Match them up with the pages! Several writers worked on this, and Ian only did pages 1-6 and 37-40. Page 6 ends with Sonic taking off after arriving in the Green Hill Zone; and page 37 begins with Sonic being teleported into the cave where the Topaz goes, RIGHT AFTER the last page that has the Rogues!
