Right! I know! Anything that comes from the ground with such precision is desireable. Then a man takes it, appreciates it, and crafts it for his liking. Amazeing.
Stuart Hollingsead yes but a ruby has a crystalline form as it’s molecules arrange themselves perfectly. Jasper is less elaborate as it forms in bulk pattern. As far as cut stones, I agree with you 100% but you can’t ignore the original beauty a naturally faceted ruby or any gem for this fact, bestows on its discoverer. I like em raw and natural. I would rather a natural facet over a man made facet pattern unless the natural form is flawed. These are my opinions take care and be kind to one another
@Stuart Hollingsead only ill informed actually believe its just that. there is more value, look at the hardness, its harder. a diamonds brilliance is generally better. they are rarer. they also have more uses as well,. diamond is used in lots of cutting applications. etc etc. also they have uses in lasers and such as they work different than quartz etc etc. (rubys do as well) they each have dif purposes.
Now I begin to understand the value on some of these things … 30.5 hours, over a 3 week period. That's a lot of time and work, and no minimum wage earners work either.
This is a really transformative cut for common quartz. Usually quartz just comes out looking like cut glass, but this cut really takes advantage of its superior refractive index and really makes it glitter, even if it isn't a stone known for any kind of fire. Lovely.
I dont know why this was a suggestion to watch for me, but I can say, this is impressive. Not only you show how its done, you also show that this is hard work thats worth its efford. Good craftsmanship here, well done!
I did not know that Quartz could produce those flashing colors after it's been cut like that ! Amazing ! Just like a cut Diamond. I guess this is what's possible from a Master Jewler. Thanks for the video.
just an apprentice jeweler at this point, never did anything but cutting cabochons in school, fascinating to watch this as with such a large stone i can actually see what the hell he's doing! very cool
Excellent work. Loved the finished product. I have always enjoyed working with my hands and take a lot of pride in my work. That is probably why I get so little done.
I have been Faceting today and have just transfer dopped a full day worth of Pavillions. I love having these Gemstone orientated videos, while I Ffacet. Next I’m going to get one of those Ceramic/Zircon Polishing Laps. So much better than running out of 50,000Mesh Diamond Dust. Love the skills.👏🏼
This has always interested me since I was a young man. I wish i had been able to attend a school on jewelry production and gem cutting. Im still tempted to buy a cutting wheel and get into the art of shapping gems.
May I encourage you to continue to follow your heart in this Pursuit. You have a wonderful Talent and great passion to create works of art. Thank you for sharing. God bless.

Thanks , ive got another large one coming up in a future video, im still in the process of cutting it. its cut is a little different than this portuguese cut .
I loved watching and it turned out so well! Might I just suggest perhaps using a coloured text with the comments - I really wanted to read but sometimes there was white in the background that made some words imperceptible. Thanks for posting your work :)
zoe trope, thanks for your comments. I realize the white text is a definate problem. I have tried to correct this but the editing program i use (windows moviemaker) doesnt not give any color choices but white. Im looking into using a different program soon that is much more advanced.
Thanks very much, although i had a lot of comments regarding how i destroyed a beautiful natural crystal which i understand that point of view , i thought about that myself long and hard before i started the cutting process.
I'm not even into jewels or jewelry, but DAMN this is a pretty stone! And so much time went into it, wow! I thought it was a faster process to cut gems....
Sou muito agradecido por me ensinar lapidacao olhando teus videos gracas a voce fiz esse corte numa agata cornalina e em uma catraca rosa a quase 2 anos atras. Muito obrigado
Wow! What a beauty! I really enjoyed your video! I am getting close to retirement and I want to learn about things like this to keep my creative juices going! thanks for sharing your knowledge!
Brent Knowlton I just watched it, what made you think about using tv glass? It turned out so well. I also liked how you showed your setup. I didn’t know they made smaller machines. Thanks again.
Liz kb, i just happened upon the material at a gem show and i have cut different types of glass before so i new it would work, i had heard this type would cut a nice stone, i asked the price and the vendor said take it its free. I was attracted to its size knowing i could cut a large stone from it. Thanks
My son, Jason Fleming, learned faceting at the City of Glendale Senior Center more than 10 years ago. Having had to be bedridden for about 10 years he has forgotten most of what he was taught. You have brought back the memories. Thank you for being an excellent instructor also! Looking for more of your videos.
Incredible work there, learned a lot (never knew anything about gem cutting) Love the look of that quartz in the sun light, looks almost like it's not there then all the sparkles
Awesome, watched the video all the way through. Very entertaining! I have a large chunk of Quartz ive been contemplating to do this with, perhaps ill finally start this week. thanks for the inspiration
More beautiful than any diamond!
I hope that one day people will stop looking at price and appreciate work of craftsman!

Yes, its a great cut , in person its better even.
I now have a much greater respect for the artists and the time that goes into a stone
Yeah. I don't do a job for less than $15/hr. Much respect to these artists
you spend more time adjusting than faceting
Only a great artist like him can see the very subtle differences between the color of the text and the background video. Awesome.

*_[THIS, THIS IS SICK! IT'S BRUTAL AND GRUESOME AND ALMOST IMPOSSIBLE TO WATCH! THIS WILL BE REPORTED TO THE DIAMONDS IMMEDIATELY, Trust me!]_*
yes a very nice crystal got massacred. I ve had quite a few complaints about it.
Is that supposed to be funny?
Just the right size for a tie tack.Portuguese cut is beautiful.
Portuguese cut really is my favourite. It makes any stone shine so brightly ♡
Yes , one of mine too. I hope to cut another one in cubic zirconia before too long.
So blingly
For people who love Gemology and watching it being made it's inspiration, best break down video so far 👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏👏
thank you very much.
Your welcome so many facets and clear when seeing through, fascinated by gems love them.

Quartz seems so underrated. A beautiful piece.
Thank you
Shine on you crazy quartz

wow, now that´s something i didnt knew, i can now appreciate the work it takes to polish a stone.

Does it really?

Yes, when cut correctly quartz is very nice.
quarz is such a beautiful and powerful gem. I love quartz
I can see why man has always been enchanted by crystals. Lovely job!
the end result with this happy song made me smile. I love it!
Thanks very much.
It would look great in a gemology museum.
What a fine Master Gem Cutter you are! That stone is FANTASTIC!
Well, im working on becoming master certified but not yet. Thanks for watching.
Wow such an amazing and precise job!!
Thank you .
Nice one 👍
Great job, you have magic hands

Absolutely fascinating. It's like straight up witchcraft to me even when you explain step by step how you do it
Glad you liked it. No magic involved .
Definitely a craft...master-craft
Nice job and a great cut for large stones
Thanks , ive got another large one coming up in a future video, im still in the process of cutting it. its cut is a little different than this portuguese cut .
I got no idea why this was in my recommended videos! but thanks youtube! :)
this is really beautiful
Nice cut!, looks amazing!, well done!.
Thanks very much, i dont do these big ones very often as they wear out the laps and take so much time to cut.
Beautiful craftsmanship

Excellent work! Talk about patience... By the way, white letters with a black outline works on almost everything

@@tennpikr74 does it also give you the option to add apostrophes in the text too?
Yes it does give that choice. I have corrected the white dissapearing subtitles in the videos that have followed.
@@ChazCharlie1 yes it does, i know my grammar isnt the best.
Brent Knowlton, you can try adding black outline to the text so it fit on any background color
Wow that is so amazing words cannot explain how magnificent that turned out. You turned a quarts crystal into a beautiful piece of art.
Thanks very much, although i had a lot of comments regarding how i destroyed a beautiful natural crystal which i understand that point of view , i thought about that myself long and hard before i started the cutting process.
Gems by mbk there a millions of quarts crystals all over this world in natural form and yes they’re beautiful. But now it is showing its true beauty .
@@Godluvs1000Thanks , i believe so too.
Your videos are very relaxing to watch. I could see myself getting into this.
I'm not even into jewels or jewelry, but DAMN this is a pretty stone! And so much time went into it, wow! I thought it was a faster process to cut gems....
Thanks, I wasn't sure myself that it would be so sparkly when finished. These big ones do take a lot of time.
Omg I’m literally speechless. You’re incredible. Wow I could watch your videos all day long. I wish I could do what you do. Simply beautiful!
Thanks very much, i think most people can learn faceting . You need to have the desire and much patience and the time .
Wow! Verry beautiful.
Thank you sam.

lovely work. That is an amazing stone. I'm sure many people would not know the difference between that and a diamond.
Thank you
316 grams! 😎
(For you americans, thats about 12 feet/77 fahrenheit.)
Good one:-)
Isn't that equivalent to approx. 3 gallons?
316 grams? So not enough to stop the advance of Nazi Germany, or get to the moon. Okay cool, just making sure. K Thx

For us, Americans you are full of you know what.
