Me hearing your disgust over this being “just a granny square” and looking down at the solid filet stitch throw I’m so desperate to finish before I die of boredom and thinking, “Girl, how I feel your pain!” 😂😂😂
@Sakrysta I decided to make a throw blanket for my husband and it was a one row repeat pattern. It had a base chain of 250 and I wanted to do about 150 rows. Had to give up after about 130 because I was so bored! It looks great but it was mindnumbing by the end of it. The border was just 5 rows of double crochet all the way around as well. 🥱🥱🥱
@@catherinelindsay7437 I’ve been working on my half double crochet blanket for two months is making me tired, I believe I’ve made it to long for chunky yarn. I made it about maybe 136 chains and every row is half double crochet. Next time I make one for my mom I need to do a new stitch.
@Emmalina2000 I think it took me about a year to finish mine. I had to keep leaving it for a while to let my brain recharge. I'm currently working on a baby blanket and the main body of that is a 2 row repeat (one of which is basically all just single crochets with a chain 1 every 5 stitches) so it's not the most exciting but at least it's pretty small so I should be on the border soon and that's much more interesting!
@@catherinelindsay7437 yeah I keep leaving mine for like a few days, but I have school starting soon so I won’t have much time to finish. The border would be so much fun!
@@catherinelindsay7437 so get creative and find a border you like, and use a different border that won't bore you to tears. The point of a repetitive single stitch blanket is for people who can crochet like they breathe: without thinking, so that they can keep their hands busy, and crochet while at a lecture, or chatting with friends, or traveling by car, or train.
I'm going to miss the Rubbermaid bowl. That was one of my favorite parts of your videos! The sound of the papers bouncing around and your fingers swirling them all about was asmr for me. Lol!
I'm a weirdo apparently and used this as background noise for crocheting, and it felt very much like we were suffering in solidarity. I only looked at the actual video for the final result and wow, nice work!
@@Donteatacowman I’ve done exact same countless times. Except not for background noise but checking out a tutorial to one pattern only to make sure it’s one I want to save for later while working on different pattern/ project. Seriously countless times
And,oh!, I forgot about all those dang picots! I used to avoid those like the plague because they NEVER turned out right. And now I love doing them your way, thank you!
That is beautiful, 😍 the colours have worked out really well. Love the maroon, the black really brings it out and the soft cream picot edging is very pretty. ❤👍🏻
I made my neice a green blanket that used a vintage border. Ended up just being a very simple corner-to-corner with the most ornate border you can imagine!
I had one grandma born in 1904, and my other grandma was born in 1913. They each crocheted. My second grandma taught me how to crochet when I was 10 years old. When I was a child, my first grandma would crochet a type of tank top made of granny squares. I'd be willing to bet that they both did Victorian crochet.
I got the hooks and needles sub thanks to you, and I love it! It actually saves me money because I wait for the box instead of buying yarn randomly at Walmart 😂 Also, is it just me, or does anyone else Like the video before watching it? I know I'm going to enjoy it. Thanks for your hard work, hon!
You DID nail it! Love the colors and the black. Congratulations again on 100k. My goodness, I've been around since the beginning. Has been so fun watching you grow.
I was watching this on my way home and got SO excited when you opened your July box! Mine was waiting at home & I loved everything about what I saw in your box. Mine was completely different. 😭 No pretty yarn. No cute hat. I was shocked!! I assumed all the crochet boxes would be the same.😔 I really enjoy watching you make these vintage patterns. Such fun!!
This looks like a lot of fun! Have you ever considered crocheting over your ends? That way you don;t have to weave anything in at the end. I've been doing this for many, many years. Saves a lot of time and aggravation if you change colors often.
Congrats, I subbed early yesterday, so glad to have found your channel. I watched several of these mystery makes already! Love your adventurous spirit.
Love the way this sample came out! The colors are perfect together and your use of the black border was spot on. I can totally see this in a Victorian bassinet or pram. Fancy. Thank you for sharing your love of crochet. 🦋
Oooh!!! A very pretty take on the simple Granny (or Van Dyke) Square!!! I even see a really cool variation based on what you have done here! You made 4 granny squares and seamed them together, then used the black to tie them all together into a larger square. What if you did that with all of them? What I mean is, make 4 smaller squares, seem them together the way you did, then use the same color of the seam to tie them all together into a bigger square. 48 of those bigger squares would make a good-sized blanket, then, using border colors, make the boarder for the blanket. You could even design it so that each of the bigger squares have different color combinations. I can even see 1 color to seam and border the smaller squares into 1, then a 2nd color to seam and border the blanket itself. So many possibilities! I have a commissioned blanket coming up... I may have to give this some thought :)
This is absolutely adorable, and as much as I do not need more crochet patterns I may have to have this pattern since I have a great nephew coming soon
Your videos make vintage crochet seem so easy! I decided to try a vintage blanket pattern. I got so lost and confused. Posted in a crochet group to get help, they deciphered it but not in a way I could understand so I went to Chat GPT and had it dumb it down a lot and finally got it. But omgosh much respect to you for being able to do this!!
I really appreciate your clarity on Van Dyke stitch; differentiating the stitch from the style creating the granny square. If its not a square its not a granny square, its just using Van Dyke stitch.
Colours are great together. Border I will try small, I already have "crochet finger" I forgot to wrap finger with a piece of electrical tape. I use that cos with a band aid I can't feel the thread, if that makes sense. Beautiful, I think I have just fallen in love with this old pattern all over again. Thank you 🌷
