Companies should not openly support or denounce any political cause or ideology. After all, companies are just people and people have different opinions
Honestly, after the 2016 election, I think it’s best if we become apolitical in our public lives and only share our political opinions with our most trusted friends and loved ones. Political content of any kind has gotten so toxic I can barely even watch the news besides BEME and the PDS, much less have an argument with someone. I now understand why people say never talk about politics or religion if you want to stay friends.
I actually think this going political is a potentially good thing. Sure, right now it's just shallow advertising, but due to market mechanisms, social corporate actions will become a determining competitive characteristic. This way, we can make them truly care about corporate social responsibility.
It's More Manipulative Like The Case of Nike, But Money Is Already Deeply Engrained In Modern US Politics... So Most Are Political... Just Not Usually So Vocal or Loud On Social Issues. Now I Really Wish It Wasn't The Case! Get All Money Out of Politics, I Say!
Here Lou makes it look like the cooperate activism is even split between conservative and liberals but is it not that most if not almost all cooperate activism is liberal and left leaning? That's how it feels to me.
Corperations have always been in politics bud. Ever heard of campaign donations? Corperations get most of the laws passed America. And if corperations don't want a law passed, it dies a quick death almost every time. Its been this way for over a century.
Watch now ur contract is gonna be lik an actor movie contract u can’t shave or ur producers will be pissed they will have to CGI a beard and you’ll look lik Henry cavil with his face all distorted in justice legue
5:10 really is true. I’m both an Uber and lyft driver. Lyft company markets itself as more progressive and friendly. However Uber allows the driver to make more and has a better designed app. However you never hear anything in the news about this because Uber is the evil right leaning corporation that doesn’t care about anyone. On the Uber app the driver has more say I even have the option of not charging a rider no questions asked. On the lyft app I have to go through a weeks worth of red tape to refund someone.
A large part of Taylor Swift's audience are Republicans. They didn't boycott like how some of us Kanye West fans pretended they "never liked him to begin with". Imagine politics getting in the way of music you enjoy
I think political actions taken by banking systems like Visa or Patreon are particularly scary - as cash becomes less of an option and society moves online the power to control access to money is massive.
Lou - You consistently do INTERESTING work. You deserve a bigger audience, if you ask me. You consistently cover a wide range of domestic and foreign issues and find very compelling ways of connecting them to your viewers lives .
Corporations have been political for decades, whether spending billions in lobbying to screw the public or (even at the same time) co-opting social movements to attract younger folks to their brand.
Yeah. As a non-American watching America, it is just super tiring Lol I will continue to buy my shit by its looks, quality, my needs, prize etc. Not because a guy says some stuff.
I agree with Lou, even though we're probably on the opposite ends of the political spectrum. It's frustrating to me to watch companies that I use (and use a LOT) insult my values so that they can score cheap woke-currency. I will defend Mr. Cathey (Chik-fil-A) just a bit: His comments about same-sex marriage were in an interview, and I don't remember any real campaign by the company. They just didn't back down from their stance. (By the way, even though I am generally conservative, I believe that the government should be out of the marriage business altogether. And if straight people are allowed to marry, gay people should not be treated as second class citizens. They should hold the same right as us straights.) Anyway, I wish companies would get out of the cheap trick business. This "moral grandstanding" is almost as deplorable as things like "Buy a car, and we'll donate a canned ham to the homeless shelter." Or "Buy a pair of socks and we'll donate a pair of socks." If you want to do good work, do it. If you want to market your business and make it LOOK LIKE doing good work, it turns me off.
Beme is picking up steam!! 1st qtr of 2019 you guys will be at 500k for sure! quality content always wins the day and you guys do a great job of that. continue the informative good fight!
I appreciate Lou's videos a lot, keep going! Greetings from Buenos Aires, Argentina :) (you should do a video about the terrible government in Argentina)
Citizens United is a much much bigger issue than this. Who cares what the fuck a corporation says, I care about who they fund and directly influence and corrupt in the government.
Back in the day, all I needed to be is a good person. Now I need to HAVE an opinion about everything, otherwise these idiots will accuse me of supporting this and that.
At the end of the day, the world doesn't budge unless there is a monetary backing. If politicians made decisions out of their love for the wellbeing of society... the sure, take corporations out of politics. However, as it stands, our government is bought, and corporations have the monetary power to move the world. **walks away to go live his life**
You guys aren't going anywhere with these views. You need to make 1 good mass appeal video and advertise the hell out of it. Otherwise, keep your regular content, most of it is very good
Great work , man... Not only about this editorial content but the platform as a whole. Amazing topics, deep on investigation, reliable journalistic sources and nice edit.
Nice statement. Well thought out. Complex ideas were simplified, but for understanding and not pandering. Like most recent episodes, I feel smarter for having watched. And then, I start to dead the comments ...
People when a sweatshop scandal breaks out: Don't care man, I buy my products based on the quality, I'm not the sweatshop police. Same people when corporations don't want to get involved in their pet politics: Corporations *have* to stand for something you know, if not, what's the point?
As the saying goes: "The business of business, is business." Corporations only "care" about supporting the causes that give them the greatest marketshare. A corporation's social standing in the consumer's mind is modern advertising. Thank you so much for making this video.
Lou don’t really agree with you. Great Video though. Real world events don’t make you say things like this. I get you are making analysis but somethings just need more work
The firm's which are on the left and support the Democrats socially fine but the actual firm and its economic firm don't. They like any other firm need profit, but they can risk that profit by hiring people based off diversity of the best equipped for the job. Not all firms can do this or they would go bust. Just wait 30 years and see who is pushing for the culture.
Buying products based on the quality of the product and not some advertising hype?! What are you, crazy or something?! Consumers gave up on being rational a LONG time ago!
Lou looks 10 or 20 years younger ;)
AuthenTech - Ben Schmanke lol fr
Companies should not openly support or denounce any political cause or ideology. After all, companies are just people and people have different opinions
Your view on topics is great Lou. Very unbiased.
Thank you, thank you, thank you! American politics are becoming all too polarizing and we can't seem to agree long enough to make a change.
Damn Lou! This is your best video yet! Thank you 😊
Excellent journalism
Kinda looks like were headed toward the "corporate congress" in the show Continuum...

Mitt Romney: Corporations are people too!
I thoght that shaved Lou looks diffrent so I went back to look at the old thumbnails and realized that he had a beard
I actually think this going political is a potentially good thing. Sure, right now it's just shallow advertising, but due to market mechanisms, social corporate actions will become a determining competitive characteristic. This way, we can make them truly care about corporate social responsibility.
Politics suck. Why would I want to wear that conversation around all day?
Don't see why a company can't be socially and economically liberal, one may not agree with them, but it doesn't make them evil.
The Chick-fil-A CEO looks a little fruity wearing that fedora, he's hiding something

I don't like when businesses take a political stance.
Corperations have always been in politics bud. Ever heard of campaign donations? Corperations get most of the laws passed America. And if corperations don't want a law passed, it dies a quick death almost every time. Its been this way for over a century.

Hey Lou. Please could you define "woke"?

Oh God, Lou! You've been shaved! What horrible creature of the night has made us suffer so?
It was a case of over trimming that forced my hand into a full-on shave. I wish I hosted a podcast instead of a UA-cam show sometimes....

You're spot on. I mention this in my video on cashless societies....

Corporations have been political for decades, whether spending billions in lobbying to screw the public or (even at the same time) co-opting social movements to attract younger folks to their brand.
Are getting political? Corporations have been the center piece of our political landscape at least for the last 50 years.
only in usa tho... you guys are so polarized that it is sad...
Where’s Lou?
Guys what did they do to Lou???
Jesus it’s an imposter

I feel like these videos would make amazing 20-30 minute podcasts..
I don't think Nike really has the moral high ground it is claiming it has.
So if they dont say something bad, say something also possibly bad. stop hating corporate America and thank Turner for you cushy job for CNN.
“This video was sponsored by Dollar Shave Club....” 👌
This has been going on for years. BTW Salesforce just gave 2 mil to the wildfire cause and 10 mil to homelessness.
Perhaps a different shirt. The shave is fine but combined with the unisex outfit, it looks like you're coming out as "Louise".
No, because ALL things companies do are political. This was a good listen though so I give you a thumb up.

It's true, when Casey Neistat made a video endorsing Hilary Clinton, he lost a lot of subscribers and rightly so.
