The man that wrote this song with George and Tammy is named Earl "Peanutt" Montgomery. He was the preacher at my wedding and sang this song to me and my husband after he anounced us Mr. and Mrs. Richards. This will forever be "our song". It was very akward at the time, but after I researched it...I realized how special it is. :)
Yeah they were good together. Too bad it didn't work for them in the marriage department. He admitted in the end he was a bad boozer throughout his marriage. He became a born again Christian before he died.
It wasn't very long after Tammy and George got a divorce that several of us went to see Tammy in Concert, she had sang about six songs when all of a sudden George Jones comes out on stage, you could tell Tammy was as surprised as the audience was, her and George sang about six songs together and then George just turned around and left the stage. What a special night it was to see Tammy and George singing together. There was never any ill will between the two after their divorce.
Actually they’re watching each other‘s lips very closely while they are singing. Tammy had a very hard time staying in sync with George, because of this in the studio George would cut his part first and then Tammy would harmonize with the recording of Jones. When they would do TV appearances such as this they would stare at each other‘s lips to keep in sync with each other.
Was always a huge fan of George and Tammy..played them all the time, but I didn't ever expect this to happen..after picking up my 7 year old daughter one day from school we did our usual went to Taco Bell to pick up her nachos..making the best of it laughing and just talking..when we got home we was headed for the door when she just started singing this song..with all of exact words and I just looked at her as she just kept walking and singing..loved that moment of time when I was in awe and It meant so much ❤️
Them as a couple plus the voices and style was a match made in heaven, it was too bad they couldn't make it work but there is only so much a relationship can stand. He always loved her.
I love it when Tammy turns to the camera and takes her first verse. So serious! But then George comes in and she can't help but light up and looks like she's going to start laughing. Love that.
I'm no fan of country music but George and Tammy have amazing voices. I'm here after looking up "the race is on" because it was covered by the Grateful Dead. He's got piercing eyes! Fascinating...
This country music song should be today some is other junk music this pure country music sound. Always enjoy this song back then in 1970s on radio. Always enjoy both there music though years still do today.
Country singers don't have the authentic, distinctive and various (Texan, deep south rural, Appalachian, etc) accents anymore, so that's one reason it doesn't sound the same anymore. These people didn't grow up with teevee, the earlier ones didn't even grow up with radio, and might not hear anything but the local accent almost all their lives, which reinforced it and kept it undiluted. Also, it seems a lot of them were older and had real hard life experiences before they hit. But even the younger ones, back then, would have known hardship and poverty, living in rural isolation for at least their youths, that no person today can really fathom, what with global communication and mass media. I think these things pretty much ensure that country music can't ever sound the way it did in its Golden Age. It just can't ever have that deep-rooted, distinctive authenticity from those days. All the tailgating, beer drinking, 4wheel mud riding in the world won't change these underlying factors which made such a difference in the sound and sensibility of early country and bluegrass. Nobody grows up picking cotton or starve now. Even if we manage to hold onto some rural sensibility, just the strength of accent won't ever be the same.
MelanieALF I've said the very same thing for for decades. If you're familiar with mahalia jackson her voice could make angels weep it was so beautiful, because the hardship of her life came through , the same with our great country singers
A cent fir areas have changed since television and radio people hear more get around these days. Do there s not the locale accents there once was. That what made tgese country singers earlier times well 30 so 50 years ago great singers
Compare this excellence to the one sounds like another crap called country these days. This is real country as it should be. Long live genuine country. RIP George and Tammy.
There are actually 2 movies coming out about them in 2018. Jessica Chastain plays Tammy and Josh Brolin plays George in one based on her daughter Georgette's book. The other one is "No Show Jones"(don't know who is in it ). There are 2 shows about George and Tammy on Cinemax coming out in Oct 2017 (episodes 3 & 4) of "Tales From The Tour Bus." i.blogs.es/81fb4b/tales-bus/1024_2000.jpg
In 1981 Annette OToole and Tim McIntyre played George and Tammy. Annette OToole sang Tammy’s songs on her own. Very good movie about Tammy’s life before George and their marriage and divorce. Love that movie as I listen to Tammy Wynette and George Jones all the time.
Just love this you can see the magic between them, I really feel bad that George went the wrong way. Tammy never recovered after the divorce but she could not live with drink and drugs. Miss them always
Now that I think about it I wonder if they got into an argument or something before they came out and sang this -then got on stage and personally reminded each other -"its goin be aight"

There is only one thing I can say about the greatest singer ever on this planet you're a legend Marty sadly you were taken from this planet too soon in life god bless my friend RIP your memory will always live on ❤😢
That's just before Tammy ended the marriage. George went down hill from there whilst tammy was out dating and remarried a number of times. George needed help and Tammy took the easy way out
@@hopesheppard477George flat out refused help for his drinking every time it was offered, so you can get off that sanctimonious BS. Plus, they had fierce fights. Jones once chased her through their home with a loaded rifle. When they toured together after the divorce, he'd miss concerts due to heavy drinking and doing cocaine, so you can stop blaming Tammy for their divorce.
If I could travel back in time it would be back to the early 70's when I was a young lad and my life ahead of me and the music was awesome. I know every generation thinks their music is the best but I think kids today are getting short changed quite a bit......
Wonderful, wonderful. Brings me back to my younger days,,, more simple times when "drugs" were aspirin, and our parents were addressed as "Ma'am" and "Sir", not old man old lady... People had respect when they flew abroad - it was an event - we all dressed up! We also dressed up to attend church...those were better days
RIP George Jones (September 12, 1931 - April 26, 2013), aged 81 And RIP Tammy Wynette (May 5, 1942 - April 6, 1998), aged 55 You both will be remembered as legends.
Llegué aquí por la serie Tammy & Georges(altamente recomendada) Estoy asombradísima de la calidad de estos artistas...sólo abren la boca y la magia sucede...
The song is perfect. The vocals, the harmonies, the lyrics, the feel.. My favorite George and Tammy track for sure. Take Me, We Go Together are tied for 2nd. 😂

Tammy was the unrivalled queen of county and western music..
There will never be another Tammy & George!! I'm sure they're singing together with the angels.
Hold on.
Mister Carolina hold on what
That sounds like Jones' personal version of hell, stuck on stage with Tammy forever.

Goosebumps 💞
Yeah they were good together. Too bad it didn't work for them in the marriage department. He admitted in the end he was a bad boozer throughout his marriage. He became a born again Christian before he died.
Cringe it’s horrible
It was good enough, it wasn't remarkable. They were good together until they weren't.
I'll never get tired of listening to them sing
Love how they look at each other while singing....why do great love stories ever have to end? :( So sad!
Yeah I saw in an interview she just met him before they went on stage to sing
Actually they’re watching each other‘s lips very closely while they are singing. Tammy had a very hard time staying in sync with George, because of this in the studio George would cut his part first and then Tammy would harmonize with the recording of Jones. She was glowing around ol George. Sad it didn’t last.
Man he was a goofball but so lovable
He apparently was an alcoholic which can kill any relationship sadly
Great song by the BEAT country duo of all time. We miss you two and will always love you. RIP
How can anyone give this song a thumbs down? It’s real country from the greatest duet ever. If you don’t like country don’t even rate it
Boy they really sang well together and i think that both still loved each other
They are both gone now and no one will ever replace them
I agree that no one can replace them
A song that describes what all married couples must endeavor to accomplish and strive to attain.
Was always a huge fan of George and Tammy..played them all the time, but I didn't ever expect this to happen..after picking up my 7 year old daughter one day from school we did our usual went to Taco Bell to pick up her nachos..making the best of it laughing and just talking..when we got home we was headed for the door when she just started singing this song..with all of exact words and I just looked at her as she just kept walking and singing..loved that moment of time when I was in awe and It meant so much ❤️
True love never dies.i know they both moved on but through it all I know that they had love for each other.God bless them both!!!!!! Country legends!!
Such a beautiful pair of voices. Masterpiece
Them as a couple plus the voices and style was a match made in heaven, it was too bad they couldn't make it work but there is only so much a relationship can stand. He always loved her.

Best duet EVER, bar NONE, end of subject! Tammy is the sweetest soul ever to walk a stage -- and with the voice of a sultry angel!
No

George and Tammy were made so perfectly in every way to be great singers and entertainers ! Everything about them is perfect.
Their wonderful music lives on and that's all that matters. Thank you Tammy, thank you George. All the pain and hurtin is over.
I love Tammy, such a distinct voice and love her music.
Just think the two of the best country singer's are now in heaven

What year was the song
The accents now are fake, they just want to sound like what they deem to be country.
A cent fir areas have changed since television and radio people hear more get around these days. Do there s not the locale accents there once was. That what made tgese country singers earlier times well 30 so 50 years ago great singers
Also....the songs are too sonically polished. they autotune and pitch correct everything.
Compare this excellence to the one sounds like another crap called country these days. This is real country as it should be. Long live genuine country. RIP George and Tammy.
I think he loved her & never stopped loving her. 💜💜
I love this song....this song came out before I was born but I am in love with it
My two favorite singers of all time. The two most beautiful singing voices ever. Both sound magical every time I hear them.

That move was Stand by Your Man starring Annette OToole and Tim McIntyre as George and Tammy back in 1981. Annette can sing like Tammy.
I would only watch a movie about George if he had given it the go ahead.
At 50 seconds into the video George realizes he's gotta bring his A-Game !!! LOL !
