    Lani Hall might be my favorite singer of all time. And Herb Alpert? Well…what can I say that hasn’t already been said?

    We saw Herb and Lani in Vancouver on this tour. What an amazing concert. We loved his talking with the audience. And Lani still has an amazing voice. It looks like we had very similar seats, just in different cities!

Howard

    I am absolutely blown away that people have the opportunity to see Herb Alpert play -- within an intimate environment in Canada (??).. I know he is still doing well, etc.... But, imagine walking into an club -- and maybe Elvis Presley is performing - and answering audience questions on stage.. I'm sure the crowd understands the gravity -- to be in the same room, with such a legend.. What a massive following the Tijuana Brass had in the 1960s.. Ultimately, I am a FAR better 'whistler' (and musician) -- after accompanying 4,000 hours of Herb Albert's trumpet - while working on the computer.. Each note is a masterpiece.. Unbelievably epic recordings.. One of the true music gods... Check out "The Lonely Bull" (1962) to start with.. My favourite song is "America" (1963).... How about Zorba the Greek (1965) ?.. 😎🎺

      The evening felt like more of a get-together than a concert. He is very down to earth and as you said, intimate with the audience. his songs speak for themselves.

      And not applaud when they hear the first few notes we did back in my concert days

      I’m originally from Tulsa Oklahoma. The early 70s were an amazing period for music in Tulsa. It was not at all unusual to walk into a club, close to the downtown area, and see Eric Clapton sitting in. This is back when Leon Russell was still living in Tulsa.

    weren't these tunes used in the Dating Game and or Newlywed Game in the 60's?

    • @marcbastarache_nb_canada
      @marcbastarache_nb_canada Рік тому

      Dating Game was Herb Alpert.. "Spanish Flea" (1965) -- but, not Newlywed Game theme - which was created for the show by a studio band.

    • @CDAHoward
      @CDAHoward  Рік тому

      It sounded as if the Newlywed Game's theme composer was looking to give it that Herb Alpert sound.

      @marcbastarache_nb_canada Рік тому +1

      @@CDAHoward The Tijuana Brass defined a large part of the 'soundtrack' of that era... The opening notes of the Newlywed Game theme song are familiar from the "Wedding March" - as played when the bride is walking down the aisle... This gives away the fact this song was created for the game show, exclusively.. Ultimately, you can just imagine how many countless TV shows & movies have featured the Tijuana Brass - (and Herb Alpert's solo work, too)..
