At what age can you start training a dog? Can you train a puppy or you should wait X months?
Already pay for srvice
Love watching you train! There's a lot of trainers, and info out there, but you are by far the best in my opinion! Wish I lived closer so I could do in person classes with my pup.
Thanks so much 🤍🙏🏻
Agree
Me too! Wish we could just rent Tom out to come live with us💕lol
I swear I could watch Lakota all day. She’s so freaking smart and you guys have an amazing bond. I’m a broken record at this point, but I always learn something new or am reminded of things I need to work on with every upload. Love the videos man!
Always appreciate it
Anyone else just love watching Lakota work? Need a video just on her working, so entertaining to watch 😍 #TeamLakota 😂
I love this video! Everyone always asks me what I mean by "meeting my dogs halfway," and this is exactly it! When you ask too much, your dog is almost guaranteed to fail, so we have to do our best to meet them where they are to help get to where we want them to be
This is what I have been missing for the last 6 months. We need more detailed instructions like this. PLEASE! Thanks.
I love Lakota so much. She's so beautiful and by gosh is she driven! Every time I see her heeling she's all eyes on you and it's such a joy to see!
“I feel like I’m doing dance” 😆 my mom and I always say you and Koaks together look like a highly trained dancing partnership 🥰
Arthur is such a handsome pup! He’s cute and happy. Love watching him prance around. Thanks so much for teaching and sharing!
Ok, now you're just showing off with Lakota!! 🤣🤣 Great tips!!
Omg! I have a 6 year old apbt and he had some basic commands he’d listen to but keeping his attention was hard. And ever since I started watching your videos and working more with him he’s loving every minute of it and things have gotten so much smoother with us ! ❤
Man, this is *SUPER* useful, and so clear and straightforward!
Also *LOVED* the showcase with Lakota. Y'all were so in sync and it was beautiful to watch. That "Rewind" command, in particular, was slick as all hail!! 😁👌👌👌👏
This was extremely helpful! Thank you for sharing how important it is to set your dog up for success and train fairly. SBK is gorgeous and smart as always and just wanted a more difficult perch to show off her athleticism!
🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
Just started to watch all your videos. I put my service dog Raven to rest on 5/23/22 she was a Doberman. We did a board and train from the breeder we got her from and she came to us at 7 mounts. We did the rest of the training our self until she was put to rest at 7 years old. I cant tell you how watching all your videos helped us cope with the loss and also learned a lot of new techniques that we will use when we get our new pup the end of July. Thanks George and Stacy
Tom is very good at breaking instructions down into small increments so people can understand.
I have recently decided to volunteer at my local animal shelter. I have been watching your videos and I find A LOT of very useful information. I am using your techniques and find they work! Thank you for your videos, any comments or input from you is well appreciated.
I really enjoy your calmness and patience with the dogs!!! You really explain the what and why well, too. But I must admit, I almost did not watch your videos when UA-cam first threw one at me.....MY bad.....I judged your book by its cover and nearly avoided you because of tatoos and pitbulls. Says far more about ME than anyone!!! Glad I watched. You do have a gift!!! As I have come to realize in recent years, everything I ever needed to know in life, I learned from my dog!!! And my dog would have known instantly that you're friend material because he was not taught the prejudices that I have carried and now wisely set aside.
I'm nearly 60, female, raised Catholic and pretty much live under a rock in case anyone reads this and wonders about my background.
This is one of the best dog training videos!
I am SOOO going to use this "Heel" technique with my students! I'm always looking for different ways to teach these basic obedience cues.
Glad it helps!
@@tomdavisofficial I find that so many people want instant results. I have to remind them that they can only teach their dogs as fast as their dogs can learn. I especially like how you return to your dog to release him from "Stay"; I always teach this. I'm going to "steal" your reason why - to reward while they are still "staying". BTW - I also "stole" your "Break" and added it to my list of release words I suggest to my students.
Lab grandma again here…I neglected to make clear (comment below) that he goes nuts whenever I move (or even don’t!), it’s because he’s thinking, “oh, this is it! We’re going out to swim!!” …in case I didn’t make that clear…thanks!
Always so useful - getting ready to self train a new service pup for wheelchair work, physical service, walking mobility support, and psychological service and I find that going back to remind myself of the very basics always reinforces to me how to communicate and share with them what h want.
I've watched alot of dog trainers and Tom is the most realistic and likable guy I've seen. Very realistic outcomes even with negative experiences.
Thanks so much!
Tom this is great! I personally have been watching a ton of your videos and working with my German Shepards. But my daughter wants to try and work with them as well and she is 13 and couldnt follow what I was trying to tell her from your videos! This is perfect for her to watch! Thank you for what you do! Keep up the amazing work!!
Everyone needs to stop what they are doing and watch and share this !!
This needs to be pinned on everything you post. Thank you!
Tom, you're awesome, but let's face it, Lakota is AWESOME! I'm her biggest fan.
Now, I see where I am failing! Thank you!
:)! Thanks so much for watching!
I really appreciated this video. I love your other videos but as someone who has a hard time understanding how to break down these training techniques, this was awesome. Thank you so much for all your work. From someone with a reactive Aussie. 😩
Teaching my dog a break (I use “okay”) command for every task I ask her to do was a game changer and just makes so much sense. Thank you, Tom! Great job.
Arthur is adorable!!!
500k coming soon!
Love watching these training videos ❤
SBK needs an official fan club if she doesnt already have one ;)
Omg Lakota is amazing! I need to learn how to gain patience with my new puppy
Love it!! Amazing as always!!!

Seriously! That is outstanding 👏
This pup is so adorable. Especially the way his little legs kind of split out as he walks by you. :)
This was so helpful; will be watching it again-probably many times. Thanks
So helpful
Awesome video. Learning how to implement our training in increments is super helpful! Thank you
So happy to have found your channel! This is good stuff! Thank you
Arthur biting the leash @1:13 is the most Dalmatian behavior I've seen him do. My girl is a total nut and does it often 😄
Not sure how long ago this vid was but!, My dog is 9. I love teaching her new things. She is an excellent Service Dog!. I ALWAYS learn , myself, something new. My Dutch is a Czechoslovakian. I know NOOOOOO Czech. She listens to Spanish as I speak it lol. I guess, besides loving this vid I shared " Old dogs can learn new tricks! ". TY!
This video was super helpful! I had a few lightbulb moments on things I’ve been doing wrong with heel and stay. Thank you!
This was a great video. Thank you
Thank you!!
Love watching you work with your dog.
Thank you for your videos they’ve been really helping me and my dog out thank you so much

Thank you for your help.
Very helpful. Thanks for the info!
Great job
WOW! Excellent tutorial! Thanks for showing us what is possible!
That was great. I think the demo of incremental training was very helpful. It's one thing to describe, but better to see it done. Thank you for that Tom!
I could watch you and Lakota demo how things are done all day long. She’s too sweet!
