I really enjoy these cozy train of thought videos you make. In a sea of GAS hype videos, actually dissecting the thought process behind the guitars you own, used to own, or want to own, is very interesting. Keep up the good work.
Thanks so much!! There really is a huge sea of GAS hype videos everywhere, and though I do like a lot of them, I don't want this channel to become that. Thank you so much for watching!
I own this exact year and model as well. Bought it fresh off the rack at GC back in high school as my second guitar ever. For the past 15 years it's been one of the most beautiful instruments in my collection, but I just never got along with the instrument sound wise. I always found the pickups to be lackluster. Still played the shit out of it in HS though. I stopped playing through my 20s and the thought of selling the instrument crossed my mind many times over the years. I could never bring myself to part with it for its sentimental value, though. I recently picked up guitar again, and being in my early 30s with some money in my pockets these days, I threw a pair of Pearly Gates into mine... The instrument has roared to life like I had never imagined. Since swapping the pups, this jag has become the guitar my teenage self always wanted it to be. It's become my primary instrument and is finally getting the use it deserves again after all these years. More than anything, it has just been such a joy to reconnect with my teenage self and play an instrument that meant so much to me half my life time ago.
I own one of these Jaguars as well, and it's an awesome instrument. FYI: that "coil split mode" you mentioned is actually a bass cut switch, not a coil spit :)
Chicago Music Exchange exclusive walnut squire jazzmaster with maple neck and block inlays. What a beautiful little instrument. Thats the one that haunts me to this day.
Hey Colji great video! Love all the sounds you got out of the jaguar. It makes me want to play it more! The one that got away was 2012 Les Paul Traditional. It was a used model selling for a really good price. I was talking with the employee there and he told me that the Les Paul was just put out on display this morning. When I picked it up, I immediately had a connection with it. I was in high school at the time and it was a little out of price range. So I put it down and went back home. But I couldn't stop thinking about for the rest of the day and it even kept me up at night. I went back to the store the next day to buy it and worry about my bank account later but when I showed up, it was gone... Literally snatched away from me in 24 hours. I guess someone else had the same connection with it. It was a good guitar, really good. I still thinking about it to this day. But if it wasn't for that, I wouldn't have found my main tele that I've been using for 10 years.
Heck yeah I’m glad you want to play the guitar more! It’s a really great guitar dude! Oh dang that’s crazy! I like your philosophy that it wasn’t meant to be for you but it was for someone else. I’m glad you found your tele and still love it to this day. You truly found the perfect guitar for you!
Super cool video, playing, and story! I also really enjoy these Jaguars, it’s crazy to see how much these once underrated gems have grown in value over the years We’ve had a few of the Fender Japan baritone jaguars come through (both the Baritone Custom and Bottom Master) and I wish I held one back for my collection!
Thank you!! Yeah it is so insane! In such a short amount of time as well! Oh dang those baritone versions of this guitar are probably my true dream guitar! Did they play similar to the non-baritone version?
The father of one of my best friends gave him this same guitar when he turned 15. Now we are 32 and I feel the same way you do, I am in love with that jaguar and I am very happy for him. I have told him many times not to sell it and if one day he decides to do so, don't doubt that I would be the right person to buy it for him because I know the value that goes with it. It is a beautiful instrument ❤
Had one of these, really awesome guitar! I still think about it every now and then and wish I didn’t sell it but I have other guitars that do the same job. It had a special feel though. Sometimes I loved how shallow the neck width was and hated it other times
They are a really awesome guitar! I’m glad you got other guitars that do the job now. Fair I can definitely see it being a good and bad thing at times!
Good choice for a dream guitar! I don't have any "one that got away" stories because I still own my very first couple of guitars (I guess I made a good choice.. twice!) but just so I can join in the conversation; that particular Jaguar IS MY DREAM GUITAR. I play rock and metal, with a particular interest on Doom and Gothic sounds and that guitar just fits the vibes, aesthetics and sound for those. I always loved offsets but I could never afford one, and having so many guitars when I don't even gig is kinda pointless, but the hardtail jaguars are somewhat of a sleeper for heavy music, I wish I get to see them more. A close second would be a 70s Tele deluxe tho, and yeah, I'm a huge Fender fan. Cheers!
For some reason I’ve been slightly obsessed with the Fender Meteora. Used they’re still too pricy for me, but one came available for $500, which is a steal. I would have needed to jump on it, and I missed out on
this exact jaguar is the first guitar i ever bought and the one i still use today. it doesn’t look as clean despite deperste attempts to clean it and it got some dings from idk where but it sounds amazing and the only issue i have is it seems theres a wiring problem sometimes it cuts out but not often. anyways this is a great guitar one of the best fender made. i love Made in japan Fenders probably more than american made especially for offset guitars
Wow that's an amazing first guitar! Dings add character! Oh that is strange, but I am glad it doesn't happen often. I totally agree with you. Same man, I prefer Japanese Fenders over American ones. 100% their offsets are just unbeatable
Fender musicmaster bass all black from the 70’s it came modded with a normal p pickup it played great and sounded way better than what they do normally. It was up for sale at guitar center for 250 dollars. The only reason I didn’t get it was I was throw out because they were closing. I came back the next day and it was gone in seconds.
The one that got away from me was a fender custom shop strat that some body was willing to give to me for 150 dollars it played incredibly I just didn’t have it on me at the time know I don’t think I’ll ever see it again
I tried one of these and it was amazing. I just couldn't justify it at $1100. My Squier Contemporary Jag gets me like 85% of the way there for a fraction of the price.
Thank you so much! For drums I use Superior Drummer and mix it with various different plugins (EQ, Saturation, Compression). It’s really great software and has lots of different drum kits to chose from. For guitars I recorded directly into my interface with the UAD Dream 65; and bass I recorded directly into my interface and use Line 6 Helix Native. Once everything is recorded, I add eq, compression, saturation and, depending on the track type, reverb to the sounds. I hope this helps!
They are awesome guitars! I wasn't really gelling with the guitar sound of it for a while as I found it to be to shrill/bright. But I have recently been using it a lot more at home and am enjoying the sound quite a bit. Still not sure if I will keep it or not but I am glad it is getting some more use.
In England where we speak English we don’t say jaguar the way you Americans do, it’s horrible and incorrect, it’s not JAG-wahr. It’s JAG-you-are with a pronunciation and emphasis on the letter U.

Reading this comment goes well with the music OP is playing in the first 2 minutes haha

You’re lucky to own one! Oh no way! Thank you for letting me know :)

i have one. this is so goated. glad theyre getting the recognition they deserve.
Nice! They are indeed goated. Yeah for real they totally deserve the recognition.

That’s an awesome story! Fair he should definitely never sell that guitar. I hope you can find your own one day! It really is a beautiful instrument

I love the band called Alcest, they use guitars like that.

The one that got away :’(
It do be :(

Holy crap that is like a once in a lifetime deal. Hopefully you one day can find it again!
@@coljimusic yep
In 2009 MF had those on their "Deal of the Day" for $200. Best deal I ever got on a guitar.
Holy crap that is an insane deal!

Fair enough! Those Squiers are really good and definitely pretty similar to this!
and a fraction of the way there 😅
Very 80s Goth and 90s shoe gaze.
The mix/drums sound awesome! How did you record the music for this?
Thank you so much! For drums I use Superior Drummer and mix it with various different plugins (EQ, Saturation, Compression). @@coljimusicthanks for the response! You should do a video showing how you mixed this whole thing! It sounds great!
I had a guitar like this once...
I want a jag also...😢..so whats wrong with your jazzmaster ?
They are awesome guitars! I wasn't really gelling with the guitar sound of it for a while as I found it to be to shrill/bright. this is literally one of my dream guitars too
It’s such an awesome guitar! Hope you find one!
I know at least 3 people who got this guitar because of the song Blimd them with Science by Jacob.
I had to search this song up and holy crap it's amazing! I can see how this sold those people on this guitar!
I dont think i have one i reqret not buying, but i do have one i regret selling that i think about everyday
Oh what do you regret selling?
@coljimusic a B.C. Rich Warlock exotic with a spalted maple top, I sold it to a pawn shop when the recession happened
Dang those are cool guitars. That’s unfortunate dude; I hope one day you’re able to find one again!
Song name??
It’s an original that I wrote for the video!
